Seven, and perhaps eight, players who will be playing college ball this fall are on this week's TOW. G Garrett Hiebert New Orleans (will be a Jr. at William Carey) Two shutouts over Nashville, Louisiana http://www.wmcarey.edu/athletics/men's%20soccer/men's%20soccer_roster.htm (roster only) D Denny Clanton Chicago (Will be a Sr. at Dayton) Solid play in 3-1 win over Des Moines http://www.daytonflyers.com/menssoccer/playerdetail/DennyClanton_58.html D VJ Kos Cascade Solid play in 2-1 OT win over Spokane D Christian Neagu Richmond (will be a Sr. at Va. Kos was a Sr. at Roberts Wesleyan College last fall. Vukovich played at Franklin Pierce in the early 90s. Mabee played at (UNC) Charlotte in the late 90s.
Can only laugh when continuing to see Vuckovic in the PDL. He's got to be in his 30's since he was a "senior" when I was a freshman in '94. He's also the Owner, General Manager, and Coach of the Voltage.
I believe Kabwe (from Zimbabwe) will enroll at NAIA powerhouse Lindsey Wilson for the upcoming semester. He turns 23 next month. Is he a washed out pro taking advantage of dodgy NAIA eligibility rules?
Yes, and he does a great job at all of them. Perhaps it seems a bit incongruous that he's playing in what is (in name,at least) a developmental league in his early 30s. But after buying the Voltage in 2000, he single-handedly turned what had been an awful, sad-sack club into a year-in/year-out competitive team where players seek to spend their summers. He is "Mr Soccer" in northern Vermont (not exactly a hotbed of soccer talent - try hockey), and he promotes his team and the sport tirelessly (btw his wife is from Vermont, which is why he lives here).
