So with the appointment of Ruud Gullit, the Galaxy have set their stall with a "name" euro coach unproven in MLS and unfamiliar with American players. As a NYRB fan, I too suffered the slew of poor management decision and embaressing interviews conducted by would-be GM Alexi Lalas. Given his role in LA's playoff flop and meddling in team affairs, this decision will likely put his head on the chopping block. My question for everyone is how long will he last this season? My prediction is that bth he and Gullit will be sacked midseason on the back of inept player moves and a losing record. Let the speculation begin.
A watch with an Alexi face that straps around your testicals? A little inconvenient to unzip and read perhaps, but not a bad idea. I'll take one with a red leather band and Roman Numerals, please.
I got yer analysis right here! (You should interpret this as a joke.) The turds who run AEG are all about "entertainment." They are more interested in style than substance. Still, one would think that they would get tired of missing the playoffs, which even with fourteen teams is still a very low bar. AEG love gAlexi Lala. I just don't see them sacking him. Even though he's proven himself to be a tool, he's their tool. And I must be honest, I really, really hope that AEG never sack gAlexi's sack. I hope they keep him forever and that El-Lay continues to inhabit the bottom of the table. But that's just me! Go Quakes! - Mark
Here's your analysis: the hiring of Gullit means Lalas is around for another season. He was clearly in on the hire and approved of it -- he was even apparently eager for it. So Lalas now has "his" coach and is staying with the team.
Have the AEG run Galaxy ever fired a GM? NO Doug Hamilton passed away. Most just get reassigned within the organization. He may get some goofy title that make him sound more important but he will not be fired from AEG.
It would appear Lalas helped LA to their most profitable year to date. I would expect his handlers quite like that. Besides, its in teams best interest to keep him around... San Jose specifically needs every chance it can get to make the playoffs next year.
