It's in the in-game thread in the Revs forum....I don't remember specifically, but it was about getting Twellman's bike on SportCenter...
Something like"Im sure that Twellmans bicycle kick will be on sportscenters top plays,im calling you out ESPN!" That was the jist of it.
It was 30 degrees. How many people would show up at the HDC on a Thursday night at that temperature? Seriously, the Revs screwed up by not making either of the two playoff games part of the season ticket package. The RB game last Saturday was played in a hurricane and they only had 4 days to sell tickets for this one. Look, the location of the stadium is 25 miles from Boston, it's actually closer to Providence, RI than Boston and there is zero public transit to the stadium. If the Revs had a SSS in or near the city, on a subway line, they'd get 20k+ every game.
Yes, but people in LA wear full winter ensembles - scarf, hat, gloves and parka - when it's in the 50s.
Your post would have been better and may have some credibility without the first line. It would have been better if you had said 60 degrees in LA.
I think you should compare your cold weather to our hot weather since that is the normal weather for each of us. Either way you can't compare your attendance to ours for obvious reasons. I don't buy the excuses either way. The Patriots would have filled that stadium today in these temperatures right? Families go to those games so don't give the its too cold for the kids excuse. The problem is that there is only 10k fans that will show up to your playoff games in these conditions. It's not you or the other fans who showed up todays fault, it's the FO's fault for not having all those other fans that go to your regular season games show up today. Something needs to be done to raise awareness of the team out there. I saw an ad on ESPN today talking about how the Boston area teams are doing so good and how everything is great sports wise in Boston. I thought of the Revs immediately. Who got mentioned in the ad? The Sox, Celtics , and Pats. I couldn't help but wonder why they don't know about the Revs making it to the Finals. That's another team they could have easily mentioned in the group but didn't due to lack of awareness. The location excuse is lame too. Don't feel like explaining why right now...
New England definitely deserves to be in the final, but if this final is 0-0 after regulation I'm going to propose that we ban NE from future finals.
Is it too early to start speculating in what country NE will play its CCC home games? (in case they win it all)
The Boston area thrives on mass transit. Foxborough works as an NFL stadium because NFL games are usually ... when? Thursday night? Not too often. People buy season tickets expecting to make six or seven Sunday drives and perhaps one inconvenient Monday or Thursday night trip. The stadium seems pretty efficient in getting cars in and out of the lot, but it's still a messy drive.
Just for the record too, they offer public transportation to Pats games and not REVs games. For example, look at my day. I work right in dowtown boston across the street from the main train station. For me to get to the game I had to leave work early and catch a train, then from the train station I had to get picked up by my friends and then still had a decent drive. Case in point, when you dont have a car 25 miles to Foxboro is a hell of a trip. Oh and of course, if you do have a car boston and providence traffic is no fun on a weekday after work
The Revs scored 51 goals this year, good for 2nd in the league. Houston, by comparison, scored 43--6th in the league. I don't find either of those teams boring to watch, but if you had to pick a team as "more defensive", I don't think it'd be the Revs.
Houston and the anti soccer revs played to a 3-3 tie this year so maybe we can get a good finals if they meet. not a 0-0 tie and then penalty kicks because that will mean the revs will lose again. The revs are the Buffalo Bills of MLS. They get to the final dance but never get to dance.
There's a rumor that the Revs are planning a new Soccer Specific Stadium in Somerville for 2009 or 2010. It would basically be right across the Charles River and would be accessible to mass. transit, which would help bring a ton more hardcore fans. The people who say the Revs play anti-soccer haven't been paying attention. His first season, with a crap team, Nicol played defensive soccer in a 4-4-2. The following year he switched to a 3-5-2 and has been one of the most attacking coaches since. (Mostly because our defenders until fairly recenlty weren't at the same level as our forwards.) Anyone remember the Revs' slow start in 2006, the one that really hurt Twellman's chances for a spot in Germany, it was because Nicol was playing a 3-4-3 to get Twellman, TT and Dempsey on the field at once. Nicol has the English mentality that says you go very defensive in a cup final. But this year, in the U.S. Cup final, the Revs finally attacked. Even when leading 3-1. So here's hoping he learned his lesson.
