How is the "home team" in the MLS Cup determined? One team or the other has to be designated as the home team. For this year it looks like the Eastern Conference team will be the "home team" but it also looks like that was the case last year as well. Anyone know if there is a rule? Looking back at recent MLS Cups it doesn't look like there is a particular pattern. I know it is not a big deal but someone asked me and I couldn't find the answer.
Doesn't really matter, does it? The Revs will wear blue and we'll wear orange. I didn't jinx anything did I?
No but you put the result of last night's game in this thread without an [R] in the title. If you can still edit you might want to remove that.
For about 40 minutes last night and for about 10 more minutes this morning. Not a long time but I did look. Do you know the answer?
The Dynamo are Rev killers. I bet the Revs are praying the don't have to play the Dynamo again. I think the Revs will be the home team.
Any sources on this? Or should it be done with respect to conferences? (2006 final would have had Houston as the host since it was held in Dallas) In case both teams were from same conferences, geographical distances between the final venue & contestants' home grounds should come into play as there should be more fans from the closer city travelling / turning-up?
Rev killers? You beat us in one Cup Final and you're Rev killers? Since you didn't beat the Revs at all this year, what does that make you then?
Better record. Houston>>New England>>KC. If Houston win, they wear Orange and the Revs wear Blue. If KC wins, the Revs still wear Blue and KC wears white.
why do they need a "home" team. The league decides who wears what colors everything else is done with a coin toss. I have worked many international neutral site tourneys and there is no "home team" the tourney director and his/her staff designate what locker rooms benches training facilities etc are used by which teams. Sure the team can request and they try to accommodate them whenever possible.
I thought this thread was about the team with the best record would be hosting the MLS cup. Anyways it should be a good game on Sunday. Even if we win tomorrow it's gonna be very tough to repeat.
They should decide it in the same manner as MLB, where the league/conference that wins the All Star Game.....oh wait.......
Do they need one? No, but so what if they do? All it really matters for is: 1) Who gets to choose colors if there is a conflict. 2) Which locker room each team gets. 3) Which bench they sit on. In 2002 LA was the "home" team despite the Revs playing in their home stadium. They chose not to take the Revs' home locker room, but did sit on the home bench and wore home uniforms while the Revs wore white.
