No, i think its goal difference head-to-head between the two teams in question, which in a 1-0 1-0 would be all even and moving on down the road.... But now i see your point, if we scored 2 it would be goal difference and not away goals that gave us the win. ok, i could live with that But irrespective and notwithstanding all the math, just win, baby.
Well Pepe has been in goal for all our matches (except cup) so that doesnt really count. The main reason for the great results IMO...against Derby and today we played with 2 more deep CM with Masch the deepest and SG playing a lot deeper than usual (same against Derby with Xabi). This allowed our wingmen and fullbacks to push further up the field and create more chances than half-chances. This tactic of playing SG as more of a CM who can push forward rather than an attacking CM who can push back helps our wing play and our passing game as Masch is closer to the CB's and SG is closer to Masch and with our wingman able to push infield into the space usually occupied by SG then our fullbacks have more chance to support the wingman in attack. IMO this is the REASON why we played so well.
You know, I think you were right to begin with. I'll just go with confused, and 2-0 in Marseille to remove all doubt for £15M, please, Alex.
Now, now, now lads. Ish only 3 pointsh. Erm ... wheresh Karolinshka Sjukhusetj lol? Oh, by the way Riise ougt to have scored 5. Gerrard was a waster, too. Kuijt's rubbish. Voronin can't hit a barn door with a banjo. And sack Benitez. If he hadn't rotated, Liverpool would have started with Alonso in the middle and Agger in the centre of defence. We should have won 30-0, then!
I reckon thats unfair to say that as you in hindsight could now say that Finnan doesnt deserve to start ahead of Arbs due to his performance today. Pennant and Yossi are completely different players. As SG was playing a deeper role today, Yossi was given more freedom but when Pennant was playing, SG was in a more advanced role and therefore meant that Pennant wasnt given as much freedom in attack. Agree...Arbs is a great buy and im reckon Rafas best buy ever as he cost somewhere in the 2mil region or less i think. As Yossi's game is to start wide and drift inboard it gave Arbs plenty of space to attack down the flank and they had a great partnership today. Aurelio is still our #1 LB by a mile. Quality passing and crossing and only gave one ball away today which is great. Aurelio and Kewell down the left is a great tandem that id like to see soon when both are fit...lets give them time. The reason Crouch has been overlooked is because hes been below average all season and supposedly in training as well. Yes Crouch is a quality player but so far this season Kuyt and Voronin have offered much more and they both track back and pressure/harrass the opposition much more than Crouch which is the best way to play football these days IMO. Kuyt - 9 games started, 4 goals, 1 assist Voronin - 9 games started, 4 goals, 5 assists Crouch - 7 games started, 3 goals, 0 assists
8 (!!!) goals at Anfield, that's simply unbelievable! That Babel goal was soooo amazing... Congrats on this impressive CL record win, which keeps you alive. I'll press my thumbs for you in the last 2 games against Porto and Marseille.
got to give you guys mad props on todays game. i alsmost felt sad for Besiktas. Out classed in every way. Made them look like semi pro team
That's what I'm f*ckin' talking about! I'd just like to add, as well, that even when Pennant returns from injury, Yossi should be first choice on the right. YNWA!!!! ps - Bonus that there was a decisive result in Porto v Marseille. The road to recovery is off to a good start!
No the Porto Marseille result was bad...we wanted Marseille to extend their lead at the top of the group.
It is not fair to justify either side of this argument by the single performance against a lackluster Turkish team. While tonight was a joy to watch, our continued drift from the title chase (which is far from a lost cause) is what Rafa will be judged on.
Lets hope this is the beginning and not the end of master football by LFC. It was a delight to watch, and lets hope this realy puts us back on track in teh EPL/CL.
If Rafa learns anything from this performance it surely must be to fucking play Crouchinho!!! Torres and Crouch up front for me....Voronin works hard like Kuijt but also like Kuijt struggles to put the ball in the back of ye ol onion bag...... Torres would have buried all Voronin's chances tonight. I will never ever speak a bad word against Yossi Benayoun again! Although two of the goals were tap in's, give the lad credit for being in the right spot at the right time....Pennant would have been hiding near the corner flag.... All class and he set up two others! Love him!
Yossi was on fire today. He deserved the hat trick. Did anyone else watch the game on ESPN 2 with Tommy Smith and Derek Rae. First of all, Smith is annoying, when Liverpool are doing well he praises them but when they are doing poorly he attacks Benitez and certain players. But here was an exchange I heard between the two announcers. Rae: Liverpool have Besiktas by the twizzlers Smith: Usually that hurts
Well now the 2nd placed team is on 7 points. If Marseille won then the 2nd placed team would be on 5 points...its pretty clear which situation is better.
Ohhh you beauty...another great Euro night - I told you we should have attacked last game, I told you these guys would be in the bottom 3rd in the EPL and I told you we'd blow them away today...they dared enter Anfield without playing 11 men behind the ball - only few can do that. Great effort all around. Yossi, Crouch and, of course, Voronin could be singled out... I finally watched a Liverpool game with a smile on my face for the whole 90...Anfield crowd deserved this treat.
I was thinking the same thing myself. I know he's not popular on here, but i've liked the guy since he came here. I just don't think he does well with Kuyt as their game is to simlar and they seem to spend their whole time setting each other up without scoreing.
Even so, if Liverpool wins both of their remaining matches, and Marseille beats Besiktas, both clubs will have 10 points- and there's almost no way Liverpool doesn't win the goal differential tiebreaker.
sorry for the negetivity, lads... i sold the team short on only a 5-0 victory... and when i said 'dominate', i didn't mean a 30-4 shot differential and 60% possession... you all can rip into me, now... i'll try to be more positive: fulham 0 - 12 liverpool, hat-tricks and braces are up for grabs... liverpool 45 to fulham -3 on shots... what a great night...
What a match by the reds! A superb Video coverage HERE HQ Goals, HQ Highlights and the torrent of the full match (HQ)
i know why rafa keeping Crouch from start of the season...the answer is psychology.......he wants crouch to be some1 feeling hunger for goals...feel angry... RAFA GENIUS!!
I was a bit disappointed when the camera focused on Aldo and Rae started talking abut Ian Rush . . . confusion or coincidence?
