Well the Nationals are the ones that released the info stating that it would all be free, so I don't think they can go back on that (even though the Lerners certainly are cheap - goes to show how desperate the Nats regard the parking situation). And you're right about the Redskins being a bad example - nothing compares to Snyder's money grubbing ($30 to park and take a bus!!!). Baseball has to be so much more fan friendly than the NFL, because they need to woo people for an entire 81 game home schedule. Beer, food, tickets and parking need to be more down to earth. They want to make it a regular thing for their fans.
No, but the city guaranteed the Nats there would be parking available in the neighborhood, and this is another attempt to live up to that promise - or get sued by the Lerners.
I have to say from an outsider perspective, (I say this with the cavet as someone who does political work, but does not knowing much about DC internal politics) that the mayor seems to be slowly getting boxed in on this. Each time it gets harder for him to resist. Doesnt mean he will give in, but it does seem hes in a tenious political position, he can either get on board and be a hero or burn a lot more political capital stopping it.
My recollection is that the city agreed to provide a set number of spaces adjacent to the stadium in the baseball agreement. Those are the spaces that will be in the lots that are right past left field. I don't believe the city obligated itself to provide any parking beyond that.
The city was required to provide a minimum of 1,225 spots in the stadium proposal. That's an MLB requirement for all stadiums. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/18/AR2006101801350.html The Nats will have over 1,300 in the garages to meet the MLB requirement - the problem is, they need approximately 5,000 more in the area to meet the demand they expect... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/11/AR2007101101117.html
Was the e-mail addressed only to supporter's clubs members, or was it one of the generic MLS/DCU newsletter e-mails?
i've signed up for everything possible re: the stadium and have never received anything. are you able to share the survey?
There is a link to request stadium info. I'm experimenting. I just filled it out. Now to see if a survey arrives.
thanks for posting that. very interesting to see some of the potential locations. most with metro access, but not all, and even those with metro access are near the ends of their respective lines.
Filled out the survey. I think the above survey deserves it's own thread, perhaps stickied, as well. What say ye?
Just guessing, but the directory of the header image would suggest that the team has employed the survey company to run the survey. The subdirectory is "dcunited"
maybe spammers cracked it Few weeks ago I got email from Moreno's wife that sounded like one of those Nigerian scam emails, funny
It was a poorly-designed survey, in that it was difficult to judge locations without more information. Alexandria? The vast majority of Alexandria is not Metro-accessible; but some parts are, and the difference in how some people would feel about the location would depend on Metro-accessibility.
Well yeah, but the point is to tell them you'll go to all the home games if they are in DC and NONE if they are not. Geez man.
With the RFEI for Poplar Point due at noon tomorrow, what happens next? Lowecifer, I'm lookin' in your direction..
Fenty looks at them for five seconds - realizes there is no value - calls MacFarland and by 5PM they have a shovel in the ground at Poplar Point.
