Perhaps Ethan is one to watch from the D.C. area: But the junior phenom lets his game speak for him all over the world. Last summer, he was invited for an individual tryout for several European squads, and later competed in a tournament with Bordeaux, a team in Ligue 1, France’s top professional league. He was even asked to rejoin Bordeaux for a tournament this summer. Also: ‘‘Last summer — so, I have a couple of friends that are ex-pros, and they got me hooked up with a tryout,” White said. ‘‘I really don’t want to mention names because I don’t know if they want it public, but they play for a couple African national teams, and my brother [Nigel] plays over in France. They asked me to come back next year, and hopefully they want me to stay and things work out.” Link: http://www.gazette.net/stories/102407/bethspo221238_32377.shtml Ethan: Not yet sure where Nigel is.

From a new story: White, a junior who has signed a contract to play professionally in France, rifled a shot from the top of the goal box into the lower right portion of the net with 27:38 to play in the game. Links: http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/sports/display.htm?StoryID=67369 Lots of questions about whether this can be true (does he have an EU passport? and can a player who has signed a pro contract play high school soccer?) but there it is anyway...
I wonder if he has signed but will not be paid or play for them until he graduates. Really brings up some questions.
Maybe it's kind of an Ian Joyce type thing? How he's signed a contract, but doesn't become a 'pro' until January?
I play on Ethan's hs team (BCC) and he is the real deal. Next year he'll be with bordeaux and he hasn't signed yet

Update: ... They have the stars: senior midfielder Ethan White, a first-team All-Gazette performer a year ago, has committed to University of Maryland. Williams is one of the most explosive forwards in the county. And all but one starter off last year's team are back. Link: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/bcchs/athletics/soccerresultsboys.htm Was never able to track Nigel down in France.
Here's the Maryland press release. http://www.umterps.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/031009aab.html These days Maryland is as good a route to the pros for American players as any...
They've got a lot of big kids in their recruiting class. Here's hoping that left back they got who was listed as the second best prospect in the country turns out, not to mention this White kid, who is apparently also a defender.
