I think Jay has a Euro passport. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I very well could be.

if hes more comfortable staying another year or two then im ok with that- but the thinking that he stays, dominates mls, and THAT increases his value is flawed.

wouldnt you rather bring in an exceptional talent and groom him from a young age rather than recognize talent, let him learn someone elses way, then bring him in and have to "re-teach" him. (and yes, im saying mls development isnt up to par)

what has putting up numbers in mls done for twellman, ching, johnson...kreis, cunningham, any forwards? all you need is the talent- a quality club buys based on that, not goal totals in a mid-level league. i dont think jozy gains value in staying, if anything i think he loses value the longer he stays (and to some extent the more "known" he becomes as a player).

Before everyone has a wet dream about Jozy being in Europe, he will stay in NYC and help MLS earn more publicity and let him get a couple of seasons under his belt so he can gain more confidence.

We need Jozy to help open Red Bull Park along with Angel. So sit down, stay calm & let him make the move when he is ready, not when you folks think he is ready.

i agree. why let him go right now and have him play on a reserve squad? let him own MLS then he can do what he wants. by then he would be a starter on the MNT.

I'd rather see Jozy with Gabe and Devann Yao in the Campionato Primavera. Playing/practicing against Italian defenses everyday would be good for a player like Jozy. Maybe it's just me though...

Nope. The work permit applies at all levels.

    DeMerit had an EU passport.

Jozy will pull in more Euro dollars than Freddy. I predict he will be a better and more effecteive player in the long run as well.

Because not only is the level of play better (although MLS is improving rapidly), being immersed in a futbol-crazy culture makes a difference for how serious the players take the game. Working through pressure from the media and fans, relegation, having to fight for your spot every week works toward chiseling a player and making him that much better (for the most part.) Even if playing on a reserve squad for the time being, I'm sure he would be training with the first team and would still be caught up with these experiences.

While I like watching the young, up-and-coming players every week in MLS, I also like to see them elevate their game overseas. Maybe it's their proving that Americans can indeed play the game (in the field, our keepers generally are well respected.)

Either way though, as long as our young players are getting time on the field, whether home or abroad, that works for me! For Altidore in particular, I think it would be very good for him to go to Holland or Spain within the next 6 months or so.

Myth. That statement can be true and false depending on the player, the club, and the coaches. Stop perpetuating these blanket myths please. Thank you.

I think the best thing he can do is continue fighting for his spot on NY and learning profesioanlism and the position from Angel and a WC coach. I also think it is better for him to be here while he works his way into the US team and be more available.

Jozy is world class talent, that wont change in a year. If anything he will be better positioned in a years time of playing for NY and the US to be an immediate impact player abroad for a top club. If it ani't broke don't fix it.

    not quality Italian defenders tho...

but I do agree that development is more important than most American fans want to believe... nothing is wrong with playing in the reserves or sitting on the bench while young... too many Americans believe that Jozy and Freddy are already finished products, when that is farthest from the truth

Jozy will spent at least 1 more season with RBNY before he splits. Another season with Angel will also do him a world of good. I'm sure Angel has been the consumate role model for Jozy and is educating him both on and off the field. Jozy has had an amazing season but there's room to grow. Let's see him double his goal scoring and assist totals and see him slowly integrated into the National team before he splits. I'm excited, when he goes abroad watch out, he could be the most productive striker we've had in Europe.

i mean, besides the fact those teams haven't actually bought any american players (not since Timmy, right? -- and that was before the Glazer's IIRC) ... what makes you say this?

apologies if I'm missing someone but this statement seems kinda off ...

villa brought in a young american defender, but i agree none of those clubs are bringing in americans as policy. i dont know that a free ride helps our players anyways...

Holland, Spain, or France. England should not even be a consideration.

What wish list do you speak of. I took big soccer forum advice and utilized the search engine and did not come up with anything. Wish list? Link?

    Hardly a myth.

Have you lived in a futbol-crazy country? I have, and there is a lot of pressure and heat put on players in that type of environment. Take a look at Jay DeMerit's statements in this interview ... http://www.goal.com/en-us/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=222496 ... (and I recall reading an article where Michael Bradley said the same thing too, but I can't locate it right now), but he mentioned just this kind of environment, which has helped him grow as a player.

Stop minimizing the positive impact that this kind of environment has in the development of players. (And it surely looks like YOU are the one that is trying to refute statements with no concrete evidence.) Thank you.

Saying its true doesn't make it true.

The fields of europe are littered with failed potential and broken dreams as well. There are for more important variables than "european enviornmet" in the development of players. The statement was overly vague and 100% untrue on its face. It works well for some people and not so well for others. What is important is the player is in a proper enviornment for him, that he has the mentality to self motivate, that he is coach and training in a system that exploits his strengths as a player not the coachs plans for the team.

Simply saying a player always develops better in europe is so grossly ignorant i can't quantify it, yet on these boards you will find countless people reciting the same tired phrases ad nasium because they read poster x say it a few times.

I am sure playing in England profesionaly WAS totally different than playing for UIC in college.

I think that Aston Villa might be the best fit for Jozy if he goes to the EPL. They have some great young players and a coaching staff that been successful in building those players. They also have a well like American owner if that means anything.

you guys dont know football except for onionsack....

and any way the best fit for him is at racing if anything

as for the atmosphere..... for people who know me know my footballing life....i was in poland playing for a team before i broke my leg and i am still going through therapy.... but thats a different story.... as for atmosphere.... for me the european life was best i loved it..... but i have seen otheres hate it and diminished from it.... me i like to play infront of big crowed who sing and have flares and my coach pushes me.... for others some cant play in that life.... they mite not like that atmosephere they mit like the asian or american atmosphere better where they have no pressure on them.... pressure can make or break a player.... some become great and some become average and some fail and some give up.... i have seen it all....

as a player like jozy what i see from him is that he has a lot of potential he can burst out.... i say keep him untill one year after RBP is open.... you cant put a kitty in a lions cage.... he will get the atmoshere slowly at RBP and will get the tast of europeanstyle of life and also he will learn from a great coach and a great foward in his journy.... after that one year at RBP.... he will be ready to face europe and will have no problem adapting to the life style.... and thats how i see it
