Yes... at least Lot 7 (the old "racetrack" lot). That's where all the cars get routed from Lot 8 once it's full. It's also open for cars coming across the bridge. I think Lot 6 is just the half of the lot that's further from the stadium... that part doesn't fill. In any event, if this Nationals plan happens, one issue that will be huge to the Nationals and the city will be how to route the Nationals shuttles so that they can get back and forth between the Navy Yard quickly enough to make their fans happy (and not disturb RFK residents). Also, they are going to want to make sure Nationals fans have easy access to the lots. Wouldn't that likely involve them leaving through Lot 8 so they can go directly onto the SE Freeway? If this plans go through, I would bet that the Nats will control at least all of Lot 8 on their 81 home dates, which essentially means DCU will be forced to schedule around the Nationals again. Even if DCU was willing to forego using Lot 8, the congestion of having both DCU and Nationals fans parking would be too much considering how poorly RFK staff typically handles parking for large events. On the bright side, this won't be as burdensome to the schedule as sharing RFK, since there's no issue of having to wait ~2 days after the Nationals play for the infield sod to have taken hold. But this will likely mean we see a lot of weeknight games for as long as this arrangement stays in effect because half of the weekend dates will conflict with the Nationals.
One can only hope that DC United is one of the other events. I just wish there were more than two 'parties' for whom the arrangement needed to make sense. From David Nakamura's latest: Why is there even a question of whether the lots would be needed for other events? Why not just a flat out statement that among other considerations DC United's parking situation must be part of the equation? Bootsy, it would appear that when DC government assumes the position for baseball, we also could wind up getting reamed.
This is all conjecture and we'll just see. But if you're right about this, and the plans go through, and this happens, my disinterest in the Nationals will change into something a lot more ugly.
I think it is understood the main event is Unted parking, but there are other events that use the parking lot (some do not use the stadium at all, others do). Fair/carnival, concerts/festivals, flea markets, Police motorcycle training, maybe they'd even want to find a use for the racetrack
Uhoh, what'd I miss there? dis·in·ter·est Pronunciation (ds-ntr-st, -ntrst) n. 1. Freedom from selfish bias or self-interest; impartiality. 2. Lack of interest; indifference. Is #2 a recent addition born of repeated misuse? Am I going to need an "embarassment" emoticon soon? Can we talk about astrophysics now?
Oh, forget it. I'm not disinterested in how such a discussion would come out, but I'm definitely uninterested!
Bingo on #2. My English teacher in 8th grade told us about a little trick for remembering the distinction that I've always remembered. Q: If you were accused of a crime, and there was plenty of evidence against you, would you want an uninterested or disinterested jury? A: An uninterested one. If they didn't care, they might not pay attention and might acquit you because they missed some damning evidence. If you had a disinterested one, they would view the evidence objectively and you'd be convicted. Yeah, the definitions don't work exactly, but there it is... You are the last person who needs to prove your smartitude (or whatever the English word is) to anyone.

What are you a transportation specialist now? You're missing the fact that the shuttles could leave from lot 7 onto Benning road, south on 295 and then to the stadium on whatever direction (N,E,S,W) Capitol street that is that runs next to the Nats stadium. That's probably just one way to get there from lot 7. As to your point on dealing with the Nats on at least half of our weekend games, you're wrong. Remember we also have weekend games on the road. It could (not saying it will) work out that DC is home when the Nats are on the road and vice versa. Then you would never have a problem of parking. You are slipping my friend. You can't see me but I'm shaking my head and wondering about how it is that you could fall so far from a "Rainmanesque" command of the facts. Trust me, there is no one on these boards more skilled in the art of conjecture than O'Fahey.
Uh... I said half of the weekend "dates" would conflict with the Nationals, i.e., we'll only have the pick of the 50% of dates when the Nationals are on the road. Read closely, sucka mc! As to using Lot 7 for the Nats... I'm doubtful. First off all, there's probably not enough room in that lot alone. Second, it is an inconvenient lot to access from many directions, and you and I both know that the city has no interest in creating the slightest inconvenience for Nats fans just to appease DCU. There is simply no way IMO that they will try to fit Nats and DCU fans into the RFK lots at the same time. That means that the Nats parking plan won't happen, or DCU will be forced to schedule around the Nats. Which of those two do you think is going to happen?
Frankly I think it is a great idea to have the Nats fans park at RFK during United games. These won't be the baseball diehards (who will have season tickets). These will be families with kids, who might talk their mom or dad into seeing a soccer game instead of a baseball game. Or it will be young people just looking for a good time, I am sure the Barra could do a great business with a simple "free beer with purchase of ticket" sign. Not to mention what DC United could put together. If baseball is going to screw us, I say we screw them right back.
Well, great idea and all, but you might want to qualify that the "free beer" is "at the tailgate BEFORE the match". Can, you imagine some poor sodding soul in the barra during the match wanting his "free beer" ?? I somehow think hed end up wearing alot more of it than drinking it. LOL!
Hey, there's always the possibility of both using the lots on the same day. Then, for those coming in from any direction, you could always claim you were going to the baseball game and get free parking... Unless DCU gets some of those $12. Then forget about it.
I have a feeling baseball and the City already have an agreement on parking (which would screw DCU fans) and the City hasn't told DCU yet. They were probably hoping to have DCU sign the lease first and then break the news.
"Smartitude". I like it. I like it a lot. It's right up there with Steven Colbert's "truthiness." It combines the words "smart" and "attitude," meaning something like "a smart guy who is going to make sure you are aware of it." Er..sort of like many BS posters, but with the cred to back it up.
Thanks. Just one thing, you ascribe that attitude to Bootsy when he does nothing to trumpet his intelligence. That was certainly not my intention. On the contrary, Bootsy is one of the posters who consistently enriches this board. I always enjoy his writing.
As do I. I enjoy your writing, and Bootsy's, and all the many Big Soccer posters who employ the English language with wit and precision; as rapier and bludgeon. (This being Big Soccer, bludgeon usually takes precedence). Why, it makes me wonder what fabulous heights of badinage would be scaled were, say, Oscar Wilde, or G. B. Shaw living among us, supporting DC United, and posting here.
Trust me when I say this. Chester makes Anacostia look like Beverly Hills. You do not want to be in that part of town at night. It's a friggin dump and one of the worst run down neighborhoods in Philly. With that being said, with the new casino in Chester the nightlife, for lack of a better word, is better. However, anyone who's been to Atlantic City knows that throwing up a casino doesn't mean a thing in terms of rural improvement.
