Guppy has made the franchise viable with the signing of Mr. White. He's filled the joint that Wilt helped build. He replaced the lousy coach that Wilt brought in and stuck the Fire with.

Now you know why Wilt was fired by AEG. And look where Wilt is - GM of a girls soccer team that will fold within 2 years.

The Fire are now in much better shape than when Wilt left them. I think it's time Guppy is given his props and the fans let go of the romantacized days of Peter Wilt.

Just hope that AEG doesn't take Guppy with them after they leave.

I'll give it to him for firing Dave and hiring Osorio.

But I doubt he was very instrumental in getting the Blanco deal done. Guppy is still waiting by the phone for Marcelo Salas to call back.

I will give Guppy props for stuff he's done this year that's materially better than we saw from him last year....I think I'd even grudgingly place him in the "decent GM" category at this point....

but you're high if you think he measures up to Peter in any way.

It took us 1 hour to get out of the TP parking lot Sunday, thanks to no traffic control.

    Guppy owes ME an apology.

If Peter was still there, you'd have no problem leaving the lot since there would have only been 8,000 people there because there wouldn't be any Blanco and the Fire would be in last place!!!

I wouldn't expect PW to actually lower himself to respond to the general attitude of some of the posters. But I have been wanting him to answer this question for a long time: knowing what the fire as a business are capable of now with the Blanco fans, would he have gotten a better deal from another city? I mean, I imagine if the Fire had to look for a new stadium now (assuming they were still in SF), they would be in a better position to negotiate a 20K seat venue. Muchas gracias for getting a great stadium, in my opinion at least, in an honestly not-that-bad (better than SF) location, something I don;t think Guppy could have down without the "Blanco effect"!!

I heard people prank call him claiming to be Salas and as soon as Guppy gets excited they laugh and hang up on him.

Wow, it only took us about 10 minutes...but we also stayed around for the after party, to celebrate the win, and to let things thin out a bit...and to let the damn trains go by.

  11. This is absolutely idiotic. If you don't like the time it takes to get out of the parking lot, just don't park there. I am absolutely sure you could find a parking spot within an hour-long walk from the stadium.

    Too bad Wanchope called back.

Props to Guppy, even more if he finds a relatively young Agentinian or Columbian forward next yr....

Parking????? is Soldier Field that much better?

the $15 they collect should include some form of exit control. where the hell are all those people who take your money before the match? Idiotic is letting an organization (parking cabal) take your money and then accept crap service

Where the hell are you parking? Took me two minutes to hit the exit, and maybe another four to get on to Harlem. Admittedly I bolted for the exit after applauding the team for a minute or two after the final whistle.

Hopefully, The Fire realize that having 20K at every game is going to tax their services and they must step it up. This is the con to building a stadium that is designed to have a "sell out" every game. What worries me is that they knew the LA game would be maxed out and they probably prepared themselves as best they could and there were still some major flaws. The will call line for the Revs game was like 30 minutes long. These types of snafus having been happening more often with the good crowds, which I understand. But if you don't learn how to rectify the problem after three or four times then it just speaks of ineptness.

I would only have to apologize to Guppy if I did something that warranted that in the first place.

Yes I think he's done a good job and I sure don't hear anyone calling for his head at this point. I think we should call for your head though. Peter is a class act and he built the Fire and did a great job in his tenure. So go die in a Fire.

Also, Andell Holdings already bought the Fire Rip Van Winkle

You don't earn fans' respect by a second-half hot streak just to get us to .500 after several months of what was arguably the worst stretch of soccer (both results-wise and aesthetics-wise) in the club's history.

You get it with delivering excellent play and titles.

    EVERY.
    YEAR.

(or at least be in contention for titles. Say what you will about MLS's parity structure, but that hasn't stopped DC from winning a major trophy in three of the last 4 seasons.)

after letting it plummet to irrelevance...

    8 times in two years.

Sarachan coached for Guppy longer than he did for Wilt, and Guppy didn't get an MLS Final appearance out of the gnome.

so we could watch a team with a .429 win percentage and then get all excited about finishing 7th in the league?

that's what they said about MLS in 1995.

When Wilt left, we'd made three MLS final appearances and won one. We'd made three Open Cup final appearances and won all three. We'd tied for the best record in the league three times and won the Supporters' Shield once. We'd made three appearances in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, making the semis twice. We'd won over 53% of all competitive matches played in the teams history. Now you want us to celebrate finishing 7th in the league, and you say we're in better shape? That's sheer lunacy.

When Guppy makes a season like this 2007 season the utter disappointment it would have been under Peter Wilt, I'll think about it. Until then, I'll keep "romanticizing" the 5 trophies and 6 finals appearances Pete brought us in 7 years.

The guy ran this team with his head up his ass for two and-a-half years. I'm not giving him the key to the city just because he finally realized he could take it out.

Peter was successful working within the MLS team salary cap. Guppy was only successful when he was given an extra $2.75 million to spend. Blanco has been great to watch, but I'm sure Peter would have built a very successful team with that extra money.

If Peter Wilt is such a fine soccer mind and GM, why isn't he leading an MLS team?

Why is he the GM of a girls team?

    Just asking?

BTW - the reason the Fire were so good in the beginning was because of Bradley - not Wilt.

I think Peter can defend himself. I will just add that that once Guppy can demonstrate this you can start comparing them, K?
