of Chelsea. Now I know he's too good of a player of us even thinking about getting but how much would he cost us? He's 29 so he has some years left but he's no youngster either. In 2006 he signed for 4 years at 18M pounds. So that comes to about 4 years at 36M dollars @ 9M a year. Would you pay him 9M a year plus having to pay a transfer fee to Chelsea? I also think he's a big enough star to merit some good publicity and if that's the case, could a lot of his salary be paid through endorsements?
Coolbean, He's not better than Del Piero, and we put an offer for Alex even though we figured he'd eventually resign with Juve. Still, Didier's situation wouldn't be optimum for MLS right now. Chances are with some sly negotiations he'll end up in the Milan or Inter stockpile because he expressed a desire to play in Italy.
Drogba wants out because Chelsea no longer interests him, the team no longer fuels his desire. Now only 5 clubs 'possibly' interests him. So there is no way he will come here.
FC, Maybe, but to him, he said he wants a big club that will do big things...Milan, Inter, Barcellona, etc. Clubs that win championships and are involved in Eurpean Cups. Plus, the younger the big players are, the more they are worth and the less likely they are to join MLS. So one has to look at it from all sides.
Didier Drogba might play in MLS, and even for New York. ... but not in 2008, or a couple years after that.
I think that if he is given a large contract like beckhams he could be swayed a little... also he will want to be part of a good team like LA
Drogba is at the prime of his career, no way hes coming to MLS. He'll probably go where Mourinho goes.
Well I don't think its really right to compare the two players, I will put up the idea that I think Del Piero would be a better addition to our team than Drogba. A front pairing of Drogba and Angel would probably have only one or the other playing well (especially since we don't really have a playmaker behind them), while Angel and Del Piero would more likely complement each other with Del Piero's creativity. Not that either one is coming.
seriously, this is embarrassing. It's like the Capello and Mourinho to New York "rumors" people were starting. People need to get a grip on reality. MLS is not a legitimate destination for top players in (or even reasonably close to) their prime. Now having said that, I heard Ronaldinho wants out of Barca. Do you think RB can land him?
