http://www.soccernet.com Allen Hopkins reports that Brad Guzan has been scouted by Arsenal in recent weeks. No doubt Guzan is having a good year. What are the possibilities of this happening?
Not a big stretch. They have the money to keep him in the reserves and see if he develops or loan him out. Your not really an EPL team unless you have used a Yank keeper at some point.
Someone wanna explain to us how Guzan would get a work permit in the UK? Unless Brad is somehow eligible for an EU passport, he ain't going to England or Scotland. I think he's good enough to play there, but sans an EU passport, he's gonna have to go to the Continent if he wants to be in Europe next year.
Wikipedia has him as being of "Polish descent". Well, actually it says "decent", but I think he's a pretty good keeper. I'm assuming that somewhere sometime someone has done a full family tree for him, but does anyone know how far back this lineage goes?
I'm sure because he's an American keeper he could qualify for the "special talent" exception. We have Marcus, Brad, Kasey, and Tim all starting for their clubs and playing well (Although Marcus is having problems). Especially if he wins MLS keeper of the year, I could see the UK home office giving him a work permit.
sory but it wont happen.... they have Jens liehman and Lukasz Fabianski.... unless Guzan wants to sit on his but all day and mak money and never see the usmnt ever again because he wount get playing time
that's a new one. i thought even young non euro players have to be 18 and have to meet the work permit requirements. now if you say he can argue that there are too many good gk's ahead of him in the u.s.a. to get the required amount of games then i might agree with you.
What is Arsenal seeing that I'm not? Is Guzan really THAT good? Lehman is 37 years old and is getting more senile with age. I'm pretty sure Wenger is already looking to replace him.
Well, if Guzan has a bachelor's degree, and he made (I think) 27,000 pounds this year, he can get a WP in January.
I like Allen Hopkins but every time I see him on tv he looks like a deer in the headlights who just shit himself.
This is a common question that follows all Arsenal's of interests/signings. How many times have they signed a young player and you were like "who the Hell is that"? Then low and behold a season later he's a star. Wenger, as much as I hate to admit, has the best eye for talent in the world, no question about it. As to Guzan, he is rounding into a complete and confident keeper and it's a matter of time before he's in Europe. For me it's hard to compare him to the others we have because he is so different but one thing is certain, he's going to be around the National team for a long time. It may be in a back-up role but that's understandable given the depth. Guzan, unless there's a linkage to a passport, will not qualify for a work permit. However, if Arsenal was truely interested, they might be able to win on appeal. It helps to have Friedel, Howard, Hahnemann, and Keller in England. Since one GK can play at a time and the depth is such for the US, the home office might make an exception. It's highly unlikely but you never know until you try. Plus, we all know the pull Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U, and Chelsea sometime have!
Lehmann is 37 but Arsenal will always have 3 quality keepers on its roster because it can afford to keep them. Heck, now Arsenal has the highest revenues of any soccer club in the world at $400M/Y and Wenger supposedly has a $70M war chest for this winter's transfer window.
Even if he does... he's still on his way out. Add to that, Almunia is hardly convincing for a club to the level of which Arsenal aspire. ... but that says nothing of or for Guzan.
Good stuff, always liked Guzan, and now theres some business in another article about Seitz? With Jens leaving, it would be quite a good move for Little Brad
