My response was about Lilly. Despite your assertion that there are better younger players who have more to add, Lilly was the only US player to be named to the all tournament team (Best 25 Players of the Tournament). I would suggest it should end when she stops getting voted as the best American Player during tournaments.
Is this the same voting contingent that garnered votes for Michelle Akers as FIFA POTY in 2003? Even though she had retired? These votes are about as meaningless as it gets. Most here seem to agree that Lilly had an average tournament at best, and Chalupny was the class of the team. But if Lilly wants to play, I say let her. And let Scurry play too. Bring Foudy back along with Chastain, and lets run an over-40s team at the next cup. Maybe they can use their cane's and beat Brazil. If I was Tarpley, I'd find something else to do with my time. As long as Lilly wants to keep playing, she's going to be polishing the bench with her backside. And that is a travesty.

I couldn't be any worse than those Monistat commercials I had to endure for WWC99, or the feminine product commercials during the WUSA.... I know the WNT needs sponsors but when it's only 2-3 sponsors and the ads are the same for every break during every match over 2 weeks...
I can't believe what I'm hearing. She was voted for the All-11 team out of seniority and respect for the elderly. It's about nostalgia, and some kind of reward for all she's done for the women's game, not how she played in the tourney. You know what. Let's invite the 1999 team back into the fold. Everyone. Akers, Chastain, Foudy, Hamm, all of them. We love them so much, we just can never let them go. Let's send all the Tarpleys, Chalupny's, Kais, etc. to W-League, and just bring back the old folk, if they're still so good.
