Hey Just A Question what are your 2 favorite games of all time ..... that made u jump with happiness 1. WC 2002 - USA VS MEXICO << It dint get any better than beating them in the quarter finals 2. U-20 WC 2007 - USA VS BRAZIL - FREDDY ADU thats all that has to be said
Well, the USA-Colombia game in the '94 WC was a blast of joy. The incredible victory over Brazil in the '98 Gold Cup, the one where Keller absolutely stumped a rampant Romario and where Preki blasted from the moon past the startled Tafarelli. The victory against Portugal to begin the 2002 WC. That WC was meant to be the full flowering of Portugal's "Golden Generation", Figo was in his prime, and the world press, as well as the Portuguese, were already talking about who they would meet in the quarterfinals....and then O'Brien and McBride struck like Yankee Devils The ones you mentioned in the first post are nice too As for ancient games, such as the '50 defeat of England, or Bert leading us to the WC semifinals in the early 30s, I've never seen them and have no sense of how they fit in terms of "joy and happiness".
Agree with all of them also, even though we lost the germany game in the 02 WC was a tremendous display.
we might of won but the dum referee dint call the hand ball ???? and they played a better game vs germany then when they played mexico ....
1. USA over Portugal WC '02: McBride's goal. Joyous. 2. USA over Mexico: 2-0 @ Crew Stadium. 2-0 Again! Caligiuri's goal to send us to Italy (and basically get us the WC in '94, and MLS) was by far the most important. Other than that, the Mexico win at the WC. For about 15 seconds, I was that happy during the Italy match the last WC, but then I realized the goal wasn't going to count.
Here is my short list: 1) USA 3-2 Portugal in the 2002 World Cup...we were major underdogs going into this match, we were without our captain and we were absolutely "throbbing" Portugal in the 1st half 3-0. The emotion that runs though you when you see that third goal (McBride header off the assist from Sanneh) is just euphoric. 2) USA 0-1 Germany...even though we lost, I thought it was one of our best played games of the tournament. We outplayed the Germans and were a couple missed chances away from a WC semifinal. 3) USA 2-1 Mexico in the 2007 Gold Cup Final....very recent, I know, but that match had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. We were on the ropes going into halftime and showed incredible grit in coming back and stealing a win in a very passionate rivalry match. Unfortunately, I didn't see the USA's 2-1 win over Columbia in the '94 World Cup or the 3-0 win over Argentina in the '95 Copa America, so I can't comment on those, but I'm sure they'd be excellent candidates for a list like this.
I've never seen the defeat of Argentina in the Copa America [was it '95?]. We made it to the semifinals of that tournament, and Sampson seemed like a genius [sigh ]. I would like to see it, but have never found video, or even detailed match reports, of that 3-0 drubbing. Is it "The Greatest USA Game You've Never Heard Of"?
#1. USA 3 - Portugal 2: US big underdogs to group favorite. Amazing start with O'Brian's early goal and other good opportunities from Pope and Stewart. Then Donovan's flukey goal confirmed the destiny of the moment. Sanneh to McBride = pure joy. Portugal's comeback attempt dies as they are totally gassed in the last 12 minutes. 3:00am in the morning and trying not to wake the whole household by screaming too loud! #2. USA 2 - Columbia 1: US big underdogs to group favorite. Packed stadium in the US. But Columbia can't get anything going against Bora-ball, and the US counters dangerously and takes a 2-0 lead. Balboa's bike attempt late in the game is the best-goal-that-never-was, as the US was actually dominating Columbia late. I never saw the 3-0 win over Argentina at the Copa, but that has to rank high, too.
US 1 - 1 Korea in the world cup. It was an amazing game start to finish... I was overjoyed with the way the boys battled to get the positive result in the heat with the hostile crowd. The icing on the cake was Friedel's mammoth performance. And of course who can forget Clint Mathis dispatching John O'Brien's feed as cool as a cucumber into the back of the net to silence the koreans.
There are so many great games. The Mexico game in the 2002 WC is one of the biggest wins ever since we beat our rival to get to the quarterfinals. The Mexico games at Crew stadium were awsome too. I was at the second one in 2005 sitting behind and to the left of the goal that Ralston and Beasley scored in. It was the first time I had ever been to a US soccer game.
There's just something about matches where the team you are rooting for comes from behind to win it. 2007 Gold Cup USA 2, Mexico 1 2005 Gold Cup USA 2, Honduras 1 Then threre are the ones where they win it at the last possible minute. 1999 Friendly USA 1, Argentina 0
I'm only counting matches I've seen in person. Both of these from 1997: USA 1-0 Costa Rica. Tab Ramos' blast was right in front of Sam's Army. Canada 0-3 USA. Went to another country and outsang the home team.
Really i was there two i went with my wifes family they all went for mexico i was surrounded by green jerseys i was the only one with a usa jersey and when feilhaber scored i was the only one jumping and people wanted to whoop my behind ;-}
USA vs Italy for .5 seconds between beasley's goal going in and everyone realizing it was discounted.
This guy has it. http://www.davebrett.com/International.htm 2-0 over Mexico in C-bus get's a big vote from me.
The two wins in WC 2002 (Portugal & Mexico). A close 3rd would be the GC Final win over Mexico in Chicago this year.
