We don't need a DP. They're all just old guys around 40 years of age who no longer have legs, and just want to sit on a multi-million dollar contract without coming to work. That's not what our franchise has ever been about. In the Bay, we earn our pay.
Echoing bill, putting cart before the horse, but for fun ... Del Piero (F/Juventus) ... fun, but like he wouldn't have the support on the field. Rafael Marquez (D/Barcelona) ... legitimate player, dunno about his attitude though. Sergio Aguero (F/Atletico Madrid) ... a fun thought for me. Think a lesser known (aka poor man's) Lionel Messi. Watched him when I was in Madrid last May and it was fun to watch! Couple more that might not be DPs Shunsuke Nakamura (M/Celtic) ... nice left footed player. Thomas Gravesen (M/Everton) ... Danish midfield general. I could have too much fun with this.
I kind of doubt we'll use the DP slot right away. I think we need to establish what kind of team we're going to be before we can know what kind of DP would fit into that system. And I bet we could get more bang for our buck if we did one of those short-term trades - let LA use it for a year or two to keep Landycakes in exchange for some good players, draft picks, and/or allocations. When our stadium is built, we'd get it back from LA and use it to bring in a suitable star and fill the new stadium.
We all can. And I seriously doubt that Earthquakes Soccer, LLC will purposely wait until The Epicenter's opening before adding a significant DP. If anything, the San Jose Earthquakes will likely want to get its DP ASAP and build around him, particularly so that the team can already have gelled by the time it moves into The Ep rather than build a cohesive DP-less team in the next two seasons only to plop a DP in the middle of it in its third season. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
i think trading the dp slot is the stupidest thing that you could ever do. I think riquelme or veron would be a great fit. the DP slot could be the first thing we use because that way we can build around who ever we get. i think veron can be a possibilty since he is playing in argentina right now and riquelme can be a possibility aslo since he aint playing much at villareal and i dont think he has a desire to play with argentina anymore ever since the world cup. i think he came back for the copa so he could have maybe gotten some exposre to be sold in the summer. i'm almost positive though that we will get donovan back and the galaxy will try and get figo.
I think a DP slot is best used on a great midfielder. They just take up so much of the game, it seems like getting more than your money's worth. Dropping mad cash on a striker (Shevchenko, etc.) seems almost as ludicrous as spending the spot on a goalkeeper. Riquelme, Veron, Kaka...that's where the real dreams are. Flashy divers can come later.
Oh, Defender! Take Naka away from Celtic for MLS?!? I'd rather take someone else's great player or budding superstar and keep the Hoops intact! BTW, on one previous occasion long ago, I did drop the suggestion of going after Shaun Maloney (former Celt now with Aston Villa) but I doubt he'd derail a young, promising opportunity in the EPL for a few giggles in America.
I don't know the availability of these players (or how to spell their names).....but they'd be great for the league and, more importantly, the Earthquakes ....... Del Piero Veron Shevchenko Van Nistelroy------my front runner Jay Jay Okocha Zidane..... Scholes Figo Ronaldo
Chivas went out on a limb for Guevara and lost; however they are doing just fine without a DP. 3 points behind DC United with a game in hand, it's possible they could win the Supporter's Shield.
I know of no other sport that is much a team sport as soccer is. The more that team gels, the better. This is also the lesson of San Jose.
I would like it to be Ronaldo of Milan, because I'm a big fan and he's got enough to be the top scorer in the MLS. If you see Luciano Emilio, he never played for a big team in Brazil and now he the top scorer of the MLS, imagine Ronaldo.
I'm sure he meant to say "investing big in Amado Guevara is the stupiest thing that you could ever do."
You have dishonored the "greater than" symbol. No longer will it's meaning have the same significance. Riquelme, indifference and all on his laziest day can carry/lead a team to victory at any level.
Now this would be a dream to have this guy on our team he is such a great player and I think that if his brother who plays in the second division in Argentina was to be picked up by the Quakes Juan Roman could possibly follow him here. As I said before there's somebody I happen to know who's from Argentina who will be traveling down to his hometown of Argentina in November or December and has relatives who happen to live in the same block of the Riquelmes parents.
