I guess I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion. It shows support of or respect for Scurry in some way, I'd agree - but it could be simply support of the other person who (with Solo) was put into a terrible position by the coach's decision. Or it could have been that she handed it to Scurry as the most-senior player still on the field. To say it reflects total support of the decision to drop Solo is a big leap, I think. I'd rather hear more information before concluding that.

So Lilly is just a tool of evil Greg Ryan ?

This is one of the players who forced Heinrichs off the job. That dog won't hunt and you know it.

Thank you. I can't believe the extent to which people are condemning Lilly over speculation, snippets of quotes, and some statements from Ryan. Lil has earned my respect and admiration over the years, both through her play and through the few times that I've met her. That's not to say that the criticisms of her can't be true, but it's gonna take a lot more than what we currently know to get me to change my opinion of her.

I think that Solo's comments were in poor taste - but I can understand why Ryan's decision upset her and led to her lapse in judgment.

I think Lilly's treatment of Solo was overly harsh - but I understand why Solo's words upset her and led to her lapse in judgment.

I think there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to patch things up. Forgiveness all around, fire Greg Ryan, let's move on. They certainly have a lot of preparing to do if they want an Olympic gold.

Gosh, maybe Kristine and Abby will make us all *sob* eat alone! They are so arrogant, they think "that will show her, hmmph!".

Where did Lilly and Wambach get such misplaced egos? So they are good soccer players, big deal. How about being leaders and being able to look at yourself in the mirror?

Please, as soon as you hear more "official" information, would you be so kind to post it on this forum????
    Thanks!

Is Abby Wambach a mini-me (of Lilly)? Which is kind of weird considering each others' sizes:p

I wish that someone would just straight up ask her to step down and open up a roster spot for someone half her age, with twice the talent. In fact, since everyone's afraid to do that, just give me her e-mail, and I'll handle that. Sheesh.

On the "official" informaton front, I'm guessing that would mean more from Greg Ryan and them what put him where he is? No thanks. ;) Based on history, I'll give Lil et al the benefit of the doubt while the spin stops spinning and the dust settles ... but not Ryan and the USSF.

You do realize the average age of the German world cup national team is 26.5 years, and the US average age is 27 right?

Age is not why the US came in third, if only it were that simple.

Bolo our average age is misleading because we have two players 35 and 37 alonf with a couple around 32. The distribution of our team is weighted on each end whereas the germans are more distributed in the middle. They have several starters who are 30.

That is somewhat true, which why I didn't post the actual ages just the average :)

But they do have a 35, 34 and 32 year old.

I do not think Lilly or Wambach are a tool of Ryan as much as they are afraid of him and will do whatever he wants. After all when Ryan immediately cut the ringleader of the fire Heinrichs group, as soon as he got the job, it showed a strong message around what would happen to anyone who did not follow the company line.

Wow. Knowingly failing to report the overall facts because they don't support your position?

I'm stunned that this could happen on Big Soccer.

I'm more stunned that it's standard operating procedure for the women's national team.

If I were going to send an open letter to Kristine Lilly, I just have it printed in the monthly AARP newsletter.

So all this "team leader" nonsene is a smokescreen for a bunch of women humiliated professionally by the USSF and desperately doing what they're told to get to China again?

I mean it could be - but, seriously how much of the Kool-Aid do you have to drink to say with a straight face that Scurry=Solo in 2007?

I mean the original decision to drop Solo for Brazil was pathological in the first place and absolutely impossible to defend based on form.

If that's what you thought I was saying, you must be hearing/seeing things.

Her age was a topic of your post, actually 1/2 your post.

Funny thing is only one US player was named to the WC all star team, Lilly.

Fair enough, then if that's the standard then be consistent and if you are, we would have to start the team from scratch, no?

Is that what you are advocating?

Should we throw in the North Korea game too?

Her overall play during the course of the tournament made her a choice for the all tournament team. That's something only she can say, no one else on the team.

I don't think Lilly's play in this WC deserves an all star spot. She's way below her own standards and there are others more deserving.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion even if happens to not reflect what did happen.

Is it possible this whole Solo incident and the actions the team took against her is clouding your view?

No man. She played well at first but it seems to me she got more and more tired as they went along. I've watched her game for a long time. That there was subpar.

You can see vs. Brazil how tired she was.

What a real team captain would have done:

1st Commentator: "Well, the coach surprised us all with his decision to put Hope Solo back in goal today against Brazil."

2nd Commentator: "Yes. Akers and Hamm said they had a meeting with him last night about his inexplicable decision to take Solo out....does his jaw look swollen to you?"

1st Commentator: "I think it does. Why is he wearing those sunglasses?"

Team runs on to the field.

1st Commentator: "They look fit and ready to play. Uh oh, is that a wrap on Akers' right hand?"

Play begins. Solo makes easy save off Brazil corner kick. Team huddles at midfield. Possession and skill manifest. Ryan is going crazy on the sideline. "Kick the ball to Abby, kick the ball to Abby."

Marta fouled in box. Makes PK past diving Solo. Chulupney scores.

Marta dances the samba in front of defender. Akers comes over and makes a hard foul. Red carded.

    US wins in shootout.

After the game, Akers said "I never have liked the samba."
    ---------------

But Akers was all about winning. Lilly is all about touchy feelie.

    Groupy thinkie, your "team" stinkie."

I think everyone knows that there were quite a few avoidable mistakes that went into our miserable performance, but I'm not discussing all of that. This thread is about Lilly, not Ryan and his awful decision. Lilly only played well in the last game, which meant nothing. There are better younger out there who have more to add to the game. She's pushing 37 and wants to be in the Olympics. When will it end? Will we have to wheel her out onto the pitch when she's 50? You're stupid.

No, they would never be allowed to be this mean spirited in High School. They're all just being cruel at this point and they should be ashamed of themselves for turning on one of their teammates to this level.
I want Ryan gone and want to clean house and start again with a whole different type of player for the Olympics
