For all you Tulsans out there, I would highly recommend checking out some TU soccer this year. The mens team is doing quite well and coming off a huge 2-2 draw with SMU over the weekend. So far this year their 5-2-1, ranked 18th in the country, with their only losses to Virginia and Virginia Tech. TU has produced several MLS players as well including Ryan Pore of the Kansas City Wizards and Kyle Brown of Real Salt Lake.

I'm not sure how ORU is doing this year, but they are always competative in the MidCon or Summit League or whatever it is called now. I used to catch a few of their games as well, especially the TU v ORU match.

Anyway, I just thought I'd give an update on some good cheap soccer entertainment available in T-town.

Just for an update, TU mens soccer team just won the conference title for CUSA and are currently ranked 7th in the nation. There is some good soccer to be watched down on 8th and Delaware.

The Conference tourny is next in Birmingham, AL so I guess you missed your chance this season, but keep it in mind for future reference.

This may be for another forum, but I really think Tulsa needs at least a PDL side.

    Saw the game last Friday.
My only previous college soccer viewing experience in person was going to a couple of Loyola of Chicago games... but last spring watched Union boys win a playoff game (3-2 in PKs) against Norman North and saw one of North's players (Russ Coleman) launched a rocket of a shot from over 20 yards out, into the corner of the net... he's now a freshman at #1 Wake Forrest...

TU put together a great first half against UAB.

Dominated the midfield to the point that most of the first half was played on UAB's side of the field. Fearless, agressive. They made the pace of the game faster than what UAB could keep up with... Saw TU string together 3 or 4 passes on several occasions to break down the midfield/defense and create good scoring chances. Should have been 3 or 4 to nil... but halftime score was 2-0.

Second half? Well, I'm not really up to speed on NCAA rules for substitutions, but there seemed to be alot of them. I can't really say TU sat back in the second half, but think they played differently... maybe just trying to keep possession and win the game with a two goal lead---- knowing that UAB's gonna get a rematch at their home field... TU showed off some solid defending in the second half, though...

First round of the CUSA tourney....

As for PDL, I think I'd rather support TU and Union, BA, Jenks, Owasso high school soccer... PDL games could be played at any number of high school stadiums so it's really no biggie... I'll certainly go and support them if they have a team though...

Just seems like with all the rumored "multi-use" development plans going on in the Tulsa area, you'd think a USL1 team would be a natural... will create a thread on this later today...

Very nice indeed. For the life of me, I don't know why SMU was rated higher than TU in the polls all year, despite TU's better record and win over SMU. Whatever, who's still playing? That's what I thought.

Semi-finals are today! TU v SCU, 7:30 PM EST, 6:30 PM CST.

There is a matchtracker available here as well as a FREE online feed to watch the game! Check it out if you have nothing else to do on a Friday night.

Tulsa go on to win the CUSA tournament by knocking off FIU 3-2, scoring 2 goals in the last 15 minutes.

They have been given the 16th seed in the national tournament, receiving a first round bye. They will face off against the winner of Central Conn. St. v Harvard on 11/28. The winner of that match moves on to the third round, where they will most likely face #1 ranked Boston College.

I think TU's record of 15-2-2, coupled with the CUSA regular season and tournament titles is worth better than 16th seed, but oh well.

You can follow the bracket here...
