After the USA's 4-0 defeat to the very impressive Brazil and the axeing of Hope Solo, i have to ask this question. With Greg Ryan's $175,000-a-year contract expiring at the end of 2007, would you guys and girls want to see him re-new his contract beyond 2007?

My vote should be taken as a simple "No." Even on BS further inflammatory embellishment is not really necessary or useful.

John, if you don't like embellishment perhaps you should stick with something more traditional like print newspaper.

Hell no. I just found out this week that we got tickets in the lottery for the Olympic women's soccer final next year. If Ryan's still the coach then, no chance will I get to watch the USWNT playing in that game.

Sure he would be a great coach.....for the WORLD'S WORST COACHES TEAM.

Ryan is like GW Bush, Makes dumb decisions with no rational thought and when they dont work out , take no responsibility or even acknowledge that he made an error in judgment. The USWNT players are like the 27% that still form the base of GW Bush's supporters. And Hope Solo is like Ron Paul. Says all the truth that no one wants to hear, but needs to hear. You put Solo in a position like that and then act all suprised when she goes postal

Just like that great actor of our time, Patrick Swayze said " Nobody puts baby in a corner"

The fact that Ryan did not throw Solo an olive branch or at least a bone after the blow up tells me a lot about his interpersonal relations skills. It would have been easy and magnanimous for him to say he fully understood how she could be hurt and disappointed by his coaching decision, and that her remarks were made in haste. He could have said we can't have players bashing each other in public, but it was a momentary lapse by a good player and a good team member who has a bright soccer future. He could have said he looks forward to talking with her after the dust settles and the team has returned home. He could have said that it was necessary that she step aside for a few days to let the team focus on soccer.

Did he say any of that?

His quotes are those of a man who is purley trying to save his job and possibly career. After this can you see anyone hiring this man in any head coaching capacity given what has happened in the last week. From now on, you can NEVER be sure that Ryan wont have another meltdown, brain lock, or whatever. If you make these dumb decisions on the biggest stage in the world, how can he be trusted on any stage from now on

I don't think I've ever seen a unanimous poll result on BigSoccer before.

Ditto! You could put a poll up that asks if the sun will come up tomorrow and a few knuckleheads would say NO!

This guy is just clearly an asshat :D

He should go, not because of the Solo-Scurry thing (the US was lucky to beat Brazil at the 2004 Olympics- neither keeper would have mattered), becuase becuase they played some old, crappy bang the ball up to Wambach stuff. That worked ten years ago, but the rest of the world has caught up and surpassed the US, and Ryan's thinking won't rectify the new gap.

    Ryan:

-Doesn't care about maintaining a posession game. So midfield isn't a concern to him.
-Relies too much on set pieces.
-Hopes Wambuch beats the offsides trap.
-Doesn't believe in resting starters, and using valuable subs.
-Won't let his players play in clubs, the real competition.
-Doesn't see the value of younger players. He'd still use the entire '99 team if they asked to come back.
    -Solo.

    :)

Or within minutes of the plane touching down back in the US.

Greg Ryan posts on bigsoccer disguised as Norfolk. Who knew it? ;)

Hell No. He's had his chance.

The Solo debauchery aside, Ryan should be fired based on the USA’s inadequate performances. Truly dreadful and out of sorts the whole tournament (save their 15 minutes of fame versus England).

Every team at the World Cup appeared to have made strides or maintained their standards; except the USA, which appeared to digress technically and tactically.

The fed had best bring in someone who is up to snuff.

I think you mean debacle, not debauchery.

At least I hope you mean debacle. ;)

Hopescreen aside, Ryan's decision making was poor at best. Before Hope ever said a word the team was walked all over and shown up...and no amount of finger pointing elsewhere should obscure that fact.
