Well, according to sky sports, he's ruled out a Prem team and Portugal as his next steps, so that leaves a door open IMO for the galaxy move. Here's why:

1.) It's crazy- I think that the attraction to doing something people say is impossible appeals to him.

2.) The fame- he obviously likes the media attention.

3.) The money- He maybe wants to prove that he can coach without unlimited budgets and a star studded team.

4.) The Timeline- It allows him to sit out his contract exemption in England and come back to the premiership in a couple of years, where he seems to indicate he most wants to coach.

Of course, a top level La Liga team would be more likely, but there is a, I think, possibility for this to be the wild card scenario...

Or maybe I just burnt my lips on the crack pipe :D

Actually, I don't think La Liga would be his first choice. That league isn't his style of play, the two leagues that have superclubs who would appreciate or tolerate his stlye are England (where he can't coach for awhile now I presume) and Italy. Which leads to the Italian superclubs, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus. I don't think Ancelotti is going anywhere, so AC Milan is out. Inter Milan maybe if they don't win or are close to winning something major. And Juventus very possible. Even though they are close to the top of the table now, eventually Serie A will wear down these old players Juve is throwing out there, and they'll probably end up around 5th to 7th place. They'll find an excuse to fire Rainieri (how convenient), and bring Mourinho in to re-do the roster and make a play to win the Scudetto again.
So my prediction, Mourinho sits out this season (similar to Capello) and waits for the Juve job.
Even though I'd love to see his personality in the MLS, he won't come here for a LONG time. Not while he's still in his "coaching prime".

Good assessment which I think sounds like the most likely outcome. But I still feel like there's this element of attractiveness to the risk. Besides, he doesn't have to inherit the Yallp-Lalas mess- if they really want to bring a second team to NY, the Met's owner could put Mourinho in charge of building a club from the ground up in a major market that has proven it will come out for soccer if the product's right. Of course stadium and facilities would be the big stumbling block there. If you think about it, building a new franchise could be an attractive possibility to a super-egoist like "the special one".

Still, you're probably right. He'll probably take over some storied team where onwership and tradition hold tight reigns over the club, but where the purse is fatter... ;)

Interesting observation from shep messing (yeah, i know what people think of him) during half-time of the NYRB/NE game. He said in the chances he he had to talk to the special one that he noticed Mourinho's knowledge of not only MLS but also of the college set-up and the like. He seems like he could actually be one of the few non-american based coaches that might be able to understand how it all fits together. Like Messing said though, take it for what it is worth (which is really nothing but idle speculation).

I'm sure someone has likely already covered this.
Klinsmann has no reason to coach a club, I highly doubt he will at any point as he is already a hero to many, many folks.

Is it also easy to win the UEFA Cup and Champions League with FC Porto?

Yeah, it is easy to manage a buch of superstars and keep them happy. It's easy to win the title, in two different countries, no matter what the budget.

And that is why Mourinho is so good. And I loath him.

A coach needs to coach. But Mourinho is a manager and manages the team, quite well IMO. But I think it is stupid for Galaxy to try to get him. I highly doubt that he will want to come to the US at this time in his career. Though he won the CL with Porto, he did not with Chelsea. He has a big enough ego that he will want to win the CL with another team, probably one with a big budget in Spain or Italy.

Now, if Alexi shows anything decent, he has another option that seems to have just appeared. Martin Jol is appearantly stepping down and I think a good choice. Prior to Spurs, he has a history of managing small budget teams and those teams doing very well. This fits into MLS well. I think he would do well in this position.

Hey... the guys on Fox Football Phone in mentioned the Galaxy as a possible destination for Mourinho, albeit they both had a laugh afterward. It was surreal for me to hear the Galaxy mentioned in the same breath as Inter, Real, AC Milan and Barcelona

Well, they certainly have klinnsman's mobile number, as well as that of his agent. A lot of the stuff that gets put out is behind the scenes whispering, but klinsi is big enough there probably is quite a bit available, and quite a bit sought.

When it comes to British press, there is a very simple and clear motto to follow: Unless it comes from BBC or straight from a horse's mouth, don't believe it until you see it.

All footie rumors are questionable, but the times is top shelf. I read it daily, and it's a better source of info than the BBC (which is on all day long in the office). that, however, is not surprising, TV is always inferior to top newspapers.

Yes, they might have talked to someone, but here's the quote.

"The Galaxy had already sounded out Jürgen Klinsmann to replace Yallop, but the former Germany coach turned down the opportunity, despite being based in Los Angeles."

It's stated as fact, without a source, even without mentioning an anonymous source, like "sources close to Klinsmann revealed". I don't know, it just smells like repeating rumors and making them into fact.

I was reading this article on BBC web page concerning "the special one's" intentions....

"I will come back and manage here, but I don't want it as my next step - it must be another country, another experience, another football," he said.

"I'm 44 and I hope I will have many years in English football. I love English football."

Funny clip: Mourinho on his 'special' status
Interview: Jose Mourinho addresses the British media
The former Chelsea manager added that he was not interested in coaching the Portuguese national team.

"I don't want the Portuguese national team," said Mourinho.

"I want to make that very, very clear. I want Portugal to succeed, I want them to work calmly and I don't want Scolari to have to look behind him thinking I'm waiting.

I don't want players to threaten to leave because I have

    Jose Mourinho

"Not just the Portuguese national team, I don't want to work in Portuguese football."

Mourinho, who speaks Spanish and French, wants to learn another language as he waits to decide on the next club he will manage.

"I have to choose between Italian and German," he said.

Mourinho insisted that the atmosphere at his next club would be important factor for him.

"I just hope I'm surrounded by love so I can express my personality," said the Portuguese coach.

So Galaxy fans, our coaching problems are solved. The "special one" just wants to be loved. Please send your most heartfelt expressions of love to weloveyoujose@lagalaxy.net As an added bonus, don't forget to remind him that the language of the future was formed in LA by blending korean, japanese, chinese, spanish and english. Well, that's what it was in Blade Runner.
