    from the BBC:

Guus Hiddink, Jurgen Klinsmann and Frank Rijkaard are all touted as strong candidates to take over the helm. (The Guardian)

Meanwhile, the former Juventus coach Didier Deschamps, Sevilla's Juande Ramos and Fabio Capello are also believed to be on the hitlist. (The Times)

I call Deschamps, former Chelsea player, and the other side of Jose's CL final.

    EDIT:
Owner Roman Abramovich is set appoint Israeli Avram Grant as caretaker boss. (Daily Mirror)

    oh Jebus.

    First choice : Deschamps
    Second choice : Capello
    Third choice : Zola

If none of those pan out, let's see JT as player-manager. :D

If Roman sacked Jose, then surely Grant wont last more than a week. Roman wants to win, and no matter how much we blast him for how cutthroat he is....I think that its the best thing for Chelsea.

    I think.

I agree. Maybe Grant will be in charge on Sunday, but I don't think there's any way he'll be more than an interim choice. Unless we beat the mancs 5-0, that is.

Guus Hiddink has been linked to the club for some time now, and the door is wide open for him to step in. If Russia fail to make the Euros, there is a very strong chance of him getting the job. He is close to Abramovich already (Abramovich pays his salary as the Russian head coach) and is tipped for the job anyway.

I didnt think abramovich would turn into Romanov.
Look how Romanov has destroyed Hearts.

The Russian who has bought up a chunk of Arsenal could well turn out to be the same.

How do you figure? I think he was given an ultimatum really. Start winning or get the hell out. May be the Rosenborg game was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Re: With Mourinho gone, who's going to be our manager?

which was mutually beneficial, as even if he doesn't play for us again, he helped free inzaghi to focus on the cl, so thanks ;).

as for the candidates, zola is currently assistant manager for the u21s. I know he is loved at chelsea, but come on, i think this would be a little out of his depth.

as for lippi, wasn't one of the things keeping him back from an english job, was, well, his english (or lack thereof)? has this changed and would it be a problem that could be gotten around? something to keep in mind.

    Please read sig. .. .

CHELSEA PUSH THE SELF-DESTRUCT BUTTON [AGAIN].

    Ho-Hum.

    Grant?

"Before his arrival at Portsmouth, Grant guided Israel to the brink of World Cup qualification in 2006 . . ." The brink of World Cup qualification eh? He could be manager of Scotland one day.

Roman wants to win but that doesn't mean he knows how (as far as football goes). Mourinho wants to win and knows how.

Generally the more involved owners get the less successful clubs become. If Roman really wanted to win he should just provide the $$ and let the manager manage.

If Roman's role keeps increasing I would not be surprised to see Chelsea less and less successful.

I think there is a lot to learn from Perez's role in charge of Real Madrid.

to be fair to Grant, it's not like Israel is a football powerhouse. He did what he could with Israel.

Grant is not the permanent replacement. We can't attract the kind of talent Roman wants with a low profile manager. It can't last.

I agree... sort of. This is what people need to understand, the vast VAST majority of Chelsea fans want Mourinho. Nobody at this moment in time is going to make us feel much better.

Grant might be better than everyone expects but, it's like I said earlier... just because someone does well for a team in one position doesn't mean they'll be a good fit for a team in another. I've seen all the names bandied about on here like Capello and Hiddink and they'd certainly be a 'safe bet', if that's what we want but maybe RA might go for an up-and-coming manager, someone who'll take a certain amount of input from outside without throwing a wobbly.

Like I say, I'd like to see a young English manager given a shot. At least we won't have to spend the first year spinning our wheels while they get 'up to speed', (if you'll pardon the pun :)), with the style of the game over here.
