Agreed. I can only see a handful of jobs in Europe that would interest him as equal to or greater than the one he had: AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barca, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, perhaps Juve or Inter. It's a short list, and as you say, none are really open. The parallel to Beckham is apt in this respect: having been with a great club, what does he do in the meantime? Go to work for Spurs or Bolton? Suppose he did, and it didn't go well? It would put a serious dent in his resume. OTOH, he can come to LA and become a media phenomenon, complete with international tours to Asia and Beckham mania. His profile remains high. And he can improve this team. With his contacts, he can get another big name to pair with Beckham and he probably still has decent South American contacts from his days at Porto. He also has his own staff -- a very fine technical staff at that -- that would turn the Galaxy pretty quickly. In short, there is substance behind the sizzle. If he does come to the Galaxy, he can wait for the next big club of his choosing, unblemished by possibly turning in a sub par performance with a smaller European club with dreams of grandeur.
I can only imagine the press conferences if we got this guy. we win because we are the best and thats that. EPSN would eat that stuff up.
I think it is safe to say that the good people in the LA Galaxy Big Soccer message board have launched the "Bring Jose To LA" campaign. Now we need an official name for it.
Wow... This is shocking news. Would be interesting if he did come here. Something tells me he wont though. I think he'll end up back in Portugal.
Jose Mourinho has just resigned from one of the top clubs in the world and isn't gonna be going to the Galaxy. Maybe one day, but definitely not in the near future. Other clubs are gonna want him to come.
That's EXACTLY the kind of coach LA Galaxy needs though; the coach that clubs all over Europe are gunning for. I think you may learn a lot about Galaxy 2008 by watching what they do in regards to Mourinho. If they pursue him, that would mean Yallop is no longer the coach they want for 2008, and they don't have a coach set in stone at this time. If they don't pursue him, it means that either Yallop or Klinsmann are already a lock for '08. Either way, as far-fetched as it may sound for Galaxy to give Mourinho an offer, it is to note that Galaxy does have the financial resources to compete for his signing. They probably saw at least $20 Million in revenue this year alone.
A bit of his bio from earlier days, as noted in the Daily Mail: Link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/li...all.html?in_article_id=482824&in_page_id=1779
first thing that ran through my mind also. LA Galaxy is prepped and ready for a big name coach to turn things around there, with all the attention beckham is bringing to the team. not to mention they are just atrocious. definately a step up for the league if there is any way he could possibly come here
Dude... How high are....Mbar said it before I could....dang !!! Okay....obviously this would be a dream come true... but I can think of 15 club teams plus 10 National teams that would put a decent offer in for his services before the LAG FO get up for their morning Latte tommorow... Would be nice though.... Simon Allen World Soccer Wrap PS... my moneys on Bolton or Portugal...
how about Mourinho to the US National Team? We might even more boring than before but we would win!!!
I'd love him here, but you gotta remember scolaris letting outburst during the last round of the euro qualifiers. He's on the hot seat and Mourinho will pounce on that job.
Check out some of these quotes. With rhetoric such as this, he's sure to spice up MLS post-game summaries. Also notice the Beckham quote. May not mean much, but then again... http://www.saidwhat.co.uk/quotes/sport/jose_mourinho,4
After seeing the bit on the front page of foxsports.com (yes, the front page, under the baseball/football stuff), I knew that the BigSoccer LAG board would be lit up about this. Remember, if you don't ever dream it, it will always be impossible. As for the prospect of him coaching us, yes, it would be a huge step up, and hopefully it would ensure La-loss's immediate dismissal. However, the challenge of a salary cap and international slots would probably drive him up the wall, and once he found out the gun laws of this nation, there would be a horrific bloodbath of referee's and their families. We would be the most hated team in the nation, even amongst non-soccer people, b/c of his stunning post-game quotes. Seeing as how we have nowhere to go but up, why not throw $20m at him and see what happens? This would give the buzz we lost w/ Beckham's knee a shot in the ass. Let's do it!
20 Mil, if plausible from AEG, speaks LOUDLY, regardless of who you are. There are so many positives from the Galaxy perspective and a few from Jose's as well. But, sadly, damn near every other team is saying the same thing... "If you will it, it is no dream" - Walter Sobchak
Americankaka... dude....Listen to my show.... I chose LA over London....and I often call people "nutty" for not packing up and moving here....like I did...I think its the best place to live on earth (Im not starting a debate on this---Im just saying I love LA ) On a soccer standpoint.... Bolton Wanderers over The Los Angeles Galaxy...sure!!! I stick with that....If YOU were given a choice... where would YOU go ?!!! Cheers.... Simon Allen World Soccer Wrap
Do I think Mourinho will be pursued by Galaxy if they didn't already land Klinsmann; yes. Do I think he'll actually coach Galaxy; no. I can see him being intrigued by the money AEG offers him, but Mourinho has a history of being one of the biggest critics of referees all over Europe. Can you imagine him trying to deal with the referees in MLS?!
salary cap isn't a problem having to sign a manager...AEG can shell out the money. It might be easier to sign Mourinho than it is to keep Donovan on the roster due to the designated player rules. Not that it'll happen...
