MLS is a Mickey Mouse league... What does that even mean? That we've got tons of money and worldwide influence like Disney does? Because we don't. If anything, we are an Internet Flash Cartoon league especially since more people probably watch it on the internet than on tv.

So why does this guy have MLS under his clubs then? Right now seems like a very stranger time to abandon the league. It has grown a lot this last year and I think pretty much every team will have some big signings before next season. Does anyone know who SJ will have on their roster? I think they should pick up a big name asian player, it'd be something new for the league

It IS a "Mickey Mouse League" because the Disney Channel is now fully on-board.

Who said anything about abandoning the league? I merely want people to stop calling it a Mickey Mouse League because its a stupid thing to call it.

    M-I-C! K-E-Y! M-O-U-S-E! :D

The anti-MLS people are really saying that our league is a joke. That's all. Saying it's a waste of time. When it does get better and the American players get better & our Nats get better and one day win a World Cup. They won't be calling MLS a mickey mouse league anymore.

Mickey Mouse League? :D I heard Momies boys league, soccer moms league, computer geeks league, but Mickey Mouse is a different level.

MLS used to be like the Serie B of Ping Pong EPL, maybe whenever u get latino semipro players it will be called "latinlovers" league, and whenever u get the college football fans it will be the borrachos league...

You're waiting for the US to win the World Cup before people take MLS seriously? Oh dear.

It means Gretzky dominated MLS and told them to get their act together.

    Obviously.

Playing soccer on a field painted with football lines - that's mickey mouse.

That problem needs to be corrected ASAP for MLS to be taken seriously outside of its hardcore fans.

I do think this thread has a good point.

Many football and baseball fans and even hockey fans that are jelous of soccer speak that way of soccer in general.

Maybe MLS should give a much more tougher impression, maybe more "macho" commercial and I keep askin about the "cool" college football fans. If soccer is "white suburban" sport in the US and most of this kids go to college... why arent this kids supporting MLS?

Most college students dont care about NFL as they care about college football, and I will say that about 80% of college students at one point or another have played soccer either with friends or rec leagues.

I was bein an a... but the true is that if uall dont change that "mickey mouse" image of MLS, the proccess would still be slow.

Get more beer, cheerleaders and more "macho" marketing to the league. Not just the popularity but the reputation would grow, i guess for the better.

My contribution, kind of being serious.

I always just thought it was called a Mickey Mouse league because it's marketed towards kids and soccer moms. I have to agree. Team names like "Wizards" and "Fire"?? "Earthquakes"?

Just go take a look at the video on the Crew website. It's under the "Crew Corner" archives. It's called "stadium feature". It's probably the worst promo ever assembled. It's just sad. I swear almost every single shot of the crowd is of a bunch of screaming little kids. Then a shot of the mascot. Then one guy playing a bell. You think I wanna be there?? Hell No.

Then you look at Toronto. A team that's been marketed towards adults and you see the atmosphere they get at their stadium. That's a place I wanna be.

I always thought Mickey Mouse was slang for amateurish, second rate and in some cases it means counterfeit or fake.

I don't think it has anything to do with Mickey Mouse, kids or Disney

And look what became of the New Jersey Devils. Nobody would call them a Mickey Mouse franchise anymore. Hilariously the Mickey Mouse franchise of the NHL is now Gretzky's own Coyotes. So... If this history repeats itself, who's league will be the Mickey Mouse league in a couple more years?

If MLS wants to stop being referred to as a Mickey Mouse League then it should stop acting like one.

Playing a guy for 90 minutes when he hasn't completely recoverd from an injury, the day after he played a full 90 minutes on another continent, is Mickey Mouse. So is raising the price of tickets for fans to see him, and forcing them to buy blocks of tickets for other games as part of a "package."

Whatever accomplishments MLS has acheived over the years, and it has, is overshadowed by stupid judgement calls by owners, GM's, and TV execs who tarnish the sport and the league by placing hype and the bottom line over fans, not to mention reason.

    A few points.

    1. Fredy Adu
    2. College system, not even the "best" athletes.
    3. Soccer moms
    4. David Beckam
    5. College Football (takes all the college fans)
    6. Level
    7. Championships (MLS has nothing to brag about it yet)
    8. Fabio Capellos in the leagues (not just JP Angles)
    9. NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL hardcore fans critize badly the game of soccer in America
    10. Absence of cheerleaders
    11. National tv
    12. Lack of Ronaldinhos style game.
    13. Only lookin at EPL as an example and not Seria A or La Liga
    14. Competition (MLS should compete with NFL and NBA as far as popularity and even with College Football) we have to remember that competitive fans would follow anything competitive from business to movie industry...

All for today, got to go back to class
