Sacha Kljestan- The new Clint Dempsey or the older Eddie Gaven?

I'm really curious which road this guy goes down.

I see elements of both of those guys in his play. Looking at temperment, he reminds of Gaven more. But he seems to be improving his play, and learning to use his body and quickness more like a young Dempsey.

Its a close call. Dempsey's prolly the most talented US player at the moment, and is on the brink of taking his game to new levels for a US bred player overseas.

Gaven looks stuck in an eternal funk of mediocrity...despite the fact he is only 20, and I s'pose could shake the 'blah, blah' cobwebs away one day. Although emotionally, he just doesn't seem capable until now- so satisfied with his lot.

OK, so which way for Kljestan?

Can one rocket up the ladder without Dempsey's core 'chip on the shoulder, badass attitude' (a la Mathis) + talent + desire to get ahead...or can nice guys from the US actually become more than just mediocre servants for top foreign talent at their peak?

He won't be either of the two, because he will be who he is, and all we can do is watch him

For the type of player he is I'd say he's the new Clint Dempsey. I think he'll be a player we'll be much better off with on the field on 2010.

Cool, but he's good. Currently tied for 2nd in the Premier League in goals.

I really like Kljestan's potential. He has really impressed me as of late. That is all.

Clint Dempsey is going to retire from international soccer and just play English club and make a ton of money. Bill O'Reily will ask the Coit Tower Demolition Squad to assasinate Dempsey, and the soccer media in this country will accuse the English of sabotaging the growth of the sport in this country.

Anyway, back on topic. Sasha has the potential and the vision to be a pseudo-number 10. However, he seems to work really well in the Chivas system, which is much better and more fun to watch than last year. I honestly think that this year's team has more to do w/ Preki than Bob Bradley. Sasha would be a great addition. You don't need two d-mids, and Rico Clark should be in for Pablo. Also, I bet Lando would love the service from Sasha, too.

Sacha was shite in the Copa America. He still has a lot to prove to me to start comparing him to Clint.

The whole Copa was a debacle start to finish. It wasn't even a good gauge to test and blood young players. I wouldn't put too much stock in a negative performance in the Copa America. Besides, the USMNT and Chivas systems are vastly different. In fact, Chivas probably has a superior style.

They don't play the same position so it's tough to compare them.

His new haircut has given him confidence. If he keep the style manicured and trimmed, the English will not be able to resist giving him a contract. He probably will also sign a contract to play with Art Brut.

I am with ya. He looks DANG good right now and is playing with loads of confidence. The only negative is that he seemed SLOW at the Copa.
