Did ESPN finally wise up and replace Dave O'Brien on MLS games? Tonights game has some dude named Glenn Davis announcing the game instead of DOB

Glenn Davis is based here in Houston. He has done MLSnet games, HDNet and local Dynamo games.

I think Dave O'Brien is over in China with Rob Stone for the WWC.

Glenn Davis is a "soccer guy" who has forgotten more about soccer/football/calcio than Dave O'Brien will ever know.

While Davis is not my favorite announcer, I really enjoy his writing and his insights into the game. And he's certainly not bad in the booth...just needs a little polishing (imho).

That's where I've heard him before...I like his style. I vote to keep him.

With DOB I feel like I'm watching a baseball game for some reason. With Davies he actually sounds excited when there is shot opportunities!

i've muted the game. Not because of Glenn Davis, he's actually pretty good. I've muted because Wynalda talks too much and tries to crack jokes during the game.

you do not need 3 guys in the booth for a soccer match. Glenn Davis and Tommy Smith would be enough. Smith is excellent as usual.

    wynalda is unbearable

I love Wynalda but then again I have a soft spot for funny pricks like him.

I think Wynalda and Smyth are absolutely awesome.

You're nuts. Did you not notice how much more soccer knowledge Glenn Davis has than O'Brien? Or how much more excited he gets during big chances and goals?

I've enjoyed him immensely. Hopefully, ESPN bosses agree, and keep him full time.

You should be happy for 3, as realistically Smyth would be the odd man out.

Glenn Davis is much, much better than Dave O' Brien. Guess what? An announcer knowledgeable about the sport he is announcing is usually better than someone who is specialized in another sport. O' Brien is an excellent baseball announcer, but he has trouble w/ soccer.

At least it's not Joe Morgan or Joe Buck calling the games.

    ***OBSECENITY DELETED ***.

I'd say the worst, however, is guy who says "IT'S IN THE NET! IT'S IN THE NET!"

If i were rich and owned the STL expansion, I'd buy Martin Tyler and Andy Gray and have them do all the matches.

Joe Morgan single-handedly stopped me from watching baseball.

At least with soccer he would struggle to relate everything happening on the field with something he did back in the 70s.

"Back when I was playing with [insert name drop] for the Reds, I would [insert lame accomplishment]..."

    Clearly we aren't communicating here.

I thought Davis was very good. O'Brien is a good baseball announcer, but he's not a soccer announcer. He just isn't in his element doing soccer.

I don't know if I'd hire Derek Rae to do baseball either.

Dave O Brien was doing play-by-play for the Red Sox/Yankess series for ESPN the past couple days

Does he sound like he's asking a question when someone hits a homerun? He does that in soccer whenever someone scores a goal.

"JIMMY CONRAD, HE'LL BE 30 NEXT MONDAY.....A BIG GOAL IN HIS CAREER??"

"AND....THIS ONE.....IS......GOING.....TO.....POP....INTO....THE BACK OF THAT NET??"

Dave O'Brien tried coming in for the last Superclasico, but his big fat head got stuck in his car and he couldn't get it out until someone brought him a can of Crisco.

Glenn knows his shit. I am glad he is getting this chance. He played the game and has spent many years promoting the sport in the USA. His radio show and blog are worth checking out. He may not have the big time anchor guy voice that the major networks covet, but I hate that crap anyway. Remember, when he does the Dynamo games he is paid by the team so he has to be a bit of a homer. His World Cup and ESPN performances have been excellent.

"After graduating from Davis and Elkins College, where he was named an NAIA All-American and which recently awarded him a lifetime achievement award for his dedication and service to soccer, Davis went on to play professionally for several different teams in several different leagues, including the original Houston Dynamo of the now defunct United Soccer League."
