Heard it the first time live and thought I'd heard wrong. Fortunately, I had PVRd the FSC Report Wednesday night hoping to see all the Euro goals again and sure enough I heard it again. That's right folks, Derek Taylor broke the news to the Soccer world that 'Paul Robinson had replaced Tim Howard' in goal for England. WTF??????? Who writes the sh*t they read? Oh that's right, they write it themselves (JSL told us that a long time ago). Talk about shoddy work. That is out and out shocking. Not surprising, but shocking all the same. Disgraceful. Derek, just for the record (and feel free to use this at any time), Tim Howard can't play for England as he isn't, well, English.
I heard that and was very much confused by that. You would think that he would know that since Howard had just played for the US that he wouldn't be playing for England. That was the worst mistake I've heard on the FSR.
Didn't see this big blunder myself but that is a HUGE mistake. This sort of shit makes me crazy. How can they say something as wrong as that!!?!
Hey but it all qualifies as Canadian content....figure that one out, mistaking an American for an Englishman qualifies as Can Con. I didn't watch the episode (I'm finding with Setanta Sports Canada now, I watch less and less FSWC), but I'm sure that carried it off with their usual polish on the FSR.
Phew! I thought this thread was going to be about Howard adopting a Scouse accent. What a relief! Seriously though, how do you guys not watch Fox Soccer Report on mute? That's the only way I can watch it.
He had a brain fart, he obviously didn't mean Tim Howard. I'm sure you've done it too, but you weren't on live tv at the time.
That was my first thought, because personally I like the report and don't have a problem with periodic mistakes. But I had a hard time coming up with an explanation for how the mistake could happen. The statement was (paraphrasing), "Robinson, replacing the injured Tim Howard in goal...." Even if it was a brain fart that Timmay isn't English, that doesn't explain how he thought that Robinson, England's #1, was replacing someone else. Or that some other England keeper (James?) was injured. This was a giant, smothered burrito type of brain fart. They're usually pretty good at correcting their mistakes right away, too, but I didn't hear anything this time. Now if it were Friedel he was talking about, I would understand.
Yes, you're right. We all have moments like that from time to time but are lucky not to be live on TV or Radio at that moment. I did not know the circumstances. But from what 'apl13' says.... maybe it wasn't a brain fart (what a name for a word! LOL thanx for teachin' me)
Both Tim Howard and David James are EPL keepers with two first names for names. That's the only connection I could see. Then again, Craig Gordon was not included in this confusion.
