Thanks, I wish the Galaxy would start winning again, but judging by comments on here, a lot of the fans feel the same as Leeds. There is always low points, our crowds dropped below 16,000 at one point (our lowest for twenty odd years) and you tend to lose the not so committed if you aren't doing well, that happens everywhere. Hopefully when MLS has been around long enough to indoctrinate the kids into supporting the teams, the support will be all the more loyal. There are the major differences though, if a team was moved here there would be massive public outcry. Moving bankrupt Wimbledon to Milton Keynes (less than 40 miles) caused a massive show of resentment, with questions to the Prime Minister in parliament. Our stadium is wonderful, but that is just me. I'd love to be able to compare HDC. It is a nice arena, well designed, and the fans can be noisy. Hopefully when Beckhamania dies down and we are just another MLS side the crowd will be made up purely of LA Galaxy fans, not just Beckham hangers on. Leeds stadium is old in places, with the South and West stands built in the 1950's. The North Stand was remodelled in 1989 following the all seater law, and the East stand (big one) was built in 1994 and is the largest Cantilever stand in Europe (holds 18,000). The hardcore fans sit in the North stand to the left (where those videos were filmed from).
Hi "Leeds"! I bet a "goose egg" never looked so good! Hope Leeds stays on a roll! It was such a relief to watch last night's game (Galaxy). At this point, I'm not looking for "the beautiful game", I'm just looking for a win so we can "feel better"! I can tell you I was screaming at the masses that were leaving with 20 minutes left in the game! It's SO important go get a head start out of the parking lot!
Really glad to see Leeds clear the deductions which in reality were an illegal punishment forced on to them after some pretty hostile posturing from the other teams in their league. Its been a lesson for all other big spending teams of what can happen when things can go pear-shaped after such an outlay on players. I for one miss seeing Leeds at Anfiled and the matches at Elland Road always have a 'special ;-)' atmosphere and have always enjoyed the sing songs about our greatest rival - you know the one! Hope to see you guys back in the Premier League where you belong.
Have to say im shocked at how well Beckford is doing. He was just utterly rubbish for us last season when we had him on loan. Leeds are doing really well and I think they'll go up for definate, along with Carlisle of course
Dark clouds on your horizon: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/football_league/article2422582.ece
Frying pans and fires anyone? He is coming on board as an investor apparently. He doesn't have the money to buy us. Bates wants £40m. Next to do is buy back the stadium and the training ground at Thorp Arch (around £20m) so I guess he'll be coming on board. As for Beckford he hated Carlisle unfortunately, he said in an interview for the Wigan friendly programme. Too far from his family and he had no confidence. His goal on Saturday was world class.
I know! I seen it. Still think his goal against Rotherham for Scunthorpe last season was better though, absolutely brilliant!
Just reading the sports report pages and comparing attendance figures for League One Brighton 3-0 Millwall Att: 6,563 Northampton 2-0 Doncaster Att 5,274 Carlisle 0-1 Tranmere Att: 6,556 Crewe 2-0 Huddersfield Att: 5,164 Leeds 2-0 Hartlepool Att: 27,877 Leyton Orient 1-0 Bournemouth Att 4,995 Luton 1-2 Bristol Rovers Att: 6,131 Southend 3-0 Gillingham Att: 7,348 Walsall 0-0 Port Vale Att: 4,967 Swindon Town 0-1 Yeovil 6,944
According to Sky Sports you guys have a better average attendance than all of the Championship League teams as well, as of a week ago at least. Congrats.
What they didn't mention is that our first home attendance 26,900+ was the fifth highest in the country, including a full set of PL fixtures. No other league team came within 2,000. Fantastic support bearing in mind tickets are £25-30 with no kids prices. I think that if we can stick around that it is fantastic. I was shocked when the Superliga final was limited to 12,500. Id have thought it would be moved to the Rose Bowl or another bigger stadium. When we got to the Playoff final we had 200,000 individual applications for 40,000 tickets, and I can't begin to imagine how many Galaxy FO got for the Pachuca game. Its great that both teams are now winning. The euphoria of Leeds perfect five match start was dissipated by Galaxys poor run, and I hope we can pick up from the Colorado victory. I missed the game (asleep through drink) but I was trying desperately to stay awake but fell asleep some twenty minutes before kick-off. Its difficult supporting an MLS team from the UK. Promised live games have been cancelled by Five tv because they didn't get a lot of public excitement going, and even the media has stopped writing up Galaxy's results. Thank god for Bigsoccer and Sopcast. Another note is that my Galaxy shirt still hasn't arrived, but I'll wait a bit longer. Can't wait for the Classico. I can't imagine what that game would be like if it were being played here.
Chances are the Classico will be a bit subdued again, just like the last one. This team just isn't inspiring too much interest. Although a win would bring some sort of buzz back.
Our attendance is a disgrace. Before that match kicked off we were 2nd in the table and we are averaging lower crowds than we were last season AND the season before (when we were in league 2). It is just not acceptable from our so called fans. We should at least be getting 10,000 but the only thing I can think of is despite winning our first 2 home games we played rubbish in both. Is there really no kids prices at Elland Road? So for a guy to take his 5yr old boy to a match would cost him £60?
They are trying to get people to book in advance as people missed the first half due to the queue on the day for the Southend game. (video showing it posted above) and they have said that concessions are only available in advance to discourage those buying on the day. You can't pay by credit card either until we get the system up and running. You can get cheaper tickets but they are generally sold out come matchday. So the answer to your question about a guy and his 5 year old is: Yes he would pay £60 (approaching $120) to watch Leeds play League One football, unless he went to the ground before matchday to buy a ticket or was a member. My Season ticket for the kop cost £400.
Sorry to keep this NGR thread alive, but its nice to keep those wellwishers informed. We beat Swansea at home today in front of a racous 30,000 crowd at EL. 2-0 Final Score, a well worked goal by Jermaine Beckford and a great finish by David Prutton on 62 and 67 minutes. 7 out of 7!!! First goal here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NpjQ38LbHhk I was level with the keepers right hand post, halfway up the stand. (Its filmed in the Kop) MOT!! Looking forward to listening to the Galaxy game on Sunday night.
Better view of the goal from the East Stand. I was behind the goal. Beckfords goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdMqA3y_KY0
I saw the youtube post of the Beckford goal. FANTASTIC!!!!!! Great team, great fans...marching on together! I'll be at HDC tomorrow night. We gotta win this one. Go Galaxy!!!
