    From the USSoccerplayers.com mailbag:

"And finally, an entertaining conspiracy theory from reader John Callaghan, who believes that the league has been out to get New York from the start: “There are many of us out here that just don’t think that league ownership of players is the way to go. I’m almost convinced the league is being run the way professional wrestling is run. And the scripts are never favorable to a New York-New Jersey area team.

“I refuse to believe that with the caliber of players in this country, teams can play as badly as the NY team does, far too often, to be a non-scripted match. I know it is not a ballet where every step can be rehearsed but I am almost convinced the outcomes are predetermined. That seems to be the only answer to the results I see week in and week out.

“My personal theory is that the NY-NJ Area will not be permitted to have a winner because we had the good fortune to have had the Cosmos.”

Either that, John, or they just suck."

Wow! They have signed high profile players and coaches for years. For some reason it hasn't worked out. He might want to look at the front office of the Metrostars for all of those years to find the problems. With Red Bull you are starting to get things moving in the right direction.

NY and LA are the cities that MLS want/need to succeed the most. Quit whining and hold your team accountable.

:DObviously then, the MLB, NBA, and NHL all fix their games against NY teams as well considering that the Yankees, Knicks, and Rangers all have the best teams money can buy, and they've been craptastic over the years as well.

Actually, if the league was doing that, Red Bulls and LA would be in the championship almost every year, as they're the two big media markets. Maybe the problem is that, just like the aforementioned teams, trying to buy championships just doesn't work.

Also, Lady Luck probably hates them for never having been in NY but having NY in their name, and for going from MetroStars ( a terrible name) to Red Bulls (an even worse name.)

Yeh, I know. The NFL does the same thing to the Giants and the Jets.

I can understand the problem of them having to play in New Jersey and New Yorkers being bothered by it (and if any second New York team thinks they can build a stadium in New York, good luck), but Red Bulls is not really that bad of a name. It's a lot better name than "Galaxy", or "Revolution" or "Fire" or some of these other hipster dufus names. I don't know about you, but I like names one can make singular or plural. I'm kind of a stickler for that, so kill me.

So it's named after an energy drink, well get over it. Red Bull ought to be praised for what they're doing so far. In fact, I want to see their logos engraved, etched, and painted in every conceivable location in the new stadium, because they have shown enough faith in MLS to want a first-class stadium and training facilities, and are willing to spend the money, unlike the club's previous owners, so they deserve a certain amount of brand loyalty in return.

And when it is all said and done, they will have brought the whole league up to a higher level.

As you said, it is also the name if an energy drink.

And it's not like it just happens to be the name of an energy drink by chance, their club-badge is actually a corporate logo.

This is what makes it such a horribly tacky name.

We have some classic teams in europe named after corporations too, i know of at least 2 big ones, but even they don't make their club badge a corporate logo.

Yeah Fire and Revolution are terrible names, god forbid a team name has some history relevance in the city they play in for a team name.

Also Red Bull is just using New York as a marketing tool just like they are in Austria and NASCAR and everything they can slap their name on. Oddly enough I only see "hipsters" drinking Red Bull.

PS: Claudio Reyna is single handedly going to bring class to the league? Mind blowing.

I never understood why Chicago named their team after a disaster. It's like calling New York the 9/11's

Maybe because, in Europe, there are sufficient funds to buy the rights to enough high quality players to make a difference. And there are enough players of quality to make shopping for the right fit(s) possible.

Not that the MLS is either poor or devoid of talent but as compared to most of the European leagues the MLS is second in both money and talent.

One or two players will not make a bad team good (see LA) but adding one or two of the right players can make a bad team average but entertaining (see NYRB)

I honestly have no idea how to respond to that. Wow.

Let's clarify something to start off with, because this always annoys me. No one "deserves" anything. I kept hearing about how Manning deserved a Super Bowl ring, and how this guy deserves this or that guy deserves that. No one deserves shit. You earn it. Once you've earned it ... then you deserved it. RBNY deserves nothing. They haven't earned it.

    Wow.

Are you on crack? Or too many vodka and Red Bulls? The club's previous owners were AEG, so blame MLS for not spending the money. Secondly, yeah, they've spent money on getting an SSS. But I'm supposed to like the name of a fashionable sports drink because of that? The jerseys are disgusting with the Red Bull can logo, the team has been blah, and I point out, the team is Red Bull NY, not the NY Red Bulls, which means its a Euro-trendy singular noun used as an adjective. And, I think New England Revolution is the best name in the MLS.

They should have just dropped the Metros and been the New Jersey Stars.

Congrats...one of the dumbest posts I've ever read on here.

The galaxy, fire, and revolution are "hipster dufus" names because you can't make them plural?

    Whaaa????

Maybe you ought to get out of Nebraska every now and then.

Mr. Callaghan, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Wandering Soccerdog is really John Callaghan. Since this idiot mentioned the Cosmos, it's got to be him.
