    Beckham's injury?

I mean I know you LA Galaxy fans are unhappy about his injury and I have been hearing reports that he may be out for the season. I am not arguing his value to the team or to the game on this side of the world. Obviously its a big blow to your push for the playoffs, but I am more interested in how you feel about the amount of $$$ he is making coupled with the fact he may play very little if at all for the rest of the season.

I know some fans have bought tickets particularly because of him, do you blame Beckham himself, Galaxy management for encouraging him to play in games although obviously struggling with injury?

Do you feel that the Galaxy and their fans have gotten short changed?

blame that idiotic manager for allowing him to play 3 games in a week with a bad ankle, DUH
Hes not gonna say no is he? Brandon wimped out sitting on the sideline while Becks watched his teammates self destruct. He should have been taken off, what an idiot for letting him make it worse.

    Nope
I'm relieved that we are free to suck out of the public eye. I believe we were short-changed when we got Lalas, who got hired here by proving he was sucky elsewhere.

We never had a healthy Beckham, nor do we have anything to play for so I honestly could care less. As for being shortchanged and disillusioned, well I've felt that way all year, now I'm just kind of numb to everything thats going on here. Two years now we've a shite team so it's become a staple for me as a fan.

I'm counting down the days till we come in last place and get to watch the redheaded stepchild pack his bags and leave to go **** up another fine soccer club.

And yes, Yallop playing Beckham for 90 minutes against the Goats was a farse, but so was McSven's 90 minutes in a friendly the day before. Is there such a thing as Beckham being TOO professional? I'm sure there is when you add boneheaded coaches into the mix. But I'm a boneheaded fan so I'll continue to support my well dressed turd of a team, sans Yallop-Lalas-or Becks or whoever. It's all the same to me, just play with some testicular fortitude for the remainder of the season.

P.S. To all the fans who bought tickets to see Becks, have fun watching our reserve team leave skidmarks all over the pitch.

The situation sucks. What if Beckham decided to retire, take his money, and run? Man, i was hoping to shove it in all the people's faces who said it was a mistake that we signed him. But this whole things has got me looking pretty foolish around the water cooler at work. Its not Becks' fault, the management should have built a team that could win without him. Instead, they expected him to be a savior. Becks is good, but he isn't that kind of player. He's more of a midfield leader and free kick expert, not the 20 goal a season striker that we need.

Guess the only thing to do is be patient and wait till next season, but patience isn't one of the virtues I've mastered yet, and next season seems so far away.

The reason I started this thread is because recently my hometown team Toronto FC released Welsh who was making over 200,000 and was not really producing for a player on that type of salary.

Beckham is making millions each year and is not doing anything for the game in MLS if he's not playing.

Players get injured all the time but I guess the main factor in this is that many fans bought the tickets and not just Galaxy fans but other MLS fans on the basis that they would be seeing Beckham play. I guess it has more to do with the issue of MLS promoting Beckham as opposed to promoting just Major League Soccer.

Players get hurt. It happens. I'm disappointed but I don't feel cheated.

And those fans who were only going to see Beckham got what they deserved.

Beckham has already paying for himself in ticket and jersey sales and not just his. Jersey and merchandising sales are up throughought the league. That TFC guy hasn't sold sh*t.

Even if Beckham were just a player and not a 'celebrity player' who was raking in money on shirt sales and ticket sales and getting massive exposure for MLS, it would not be fair to judge him based on one injury-ridden month.
First off, it's not as if he hasn't "proven" himself for over a decade in two of the top football teams in the world.
Second, in the short time he did play with Galaxy, he scored a FK goal and 3 (4?) assists, which is not exactly unproductive.
So, even if Beckham were just a really expensive European player, given that he has excellent ability, good leadership and every hope of helping Galaxy score goals in the future, I don't think anyone would consider it a waste of money just because he's been injured (particularly when Lalas and Yallop and the MLS as a whole bare a great deal of responsibility in how Beckham's injuries have been mishandled.)
I hope, though, that MLS has learned a lesson about treating an athlete like a celebrity--Movie stars can ususally be counted on to show up at the red carpet when they are needed (assuming they aren't in rehab:p), but nobody can guarantee an athlete will not be injured and unable to play.

    Yes, I knew I should've stuck to women's soccer...

I thought it might be fun, though, to take friends to a game, instead of always trying to drag them to a women's game. (Maybe I didn't think deeply enough about it, instead of dragging them to a women's game, I'm trying to drag them to a Gals game...)

But the bad part is this - I didn't realize just what a complete mess the Galaxy is. It's one thing to ask friends to go when Beckham isn't going to play. It's another thing altogether to ask them to go when they are so bad. It's embarrassing!

There've been a few redeeming moments - like the SuperLiga final against Pachuca. They showed heart in that game after losing Beckham. Moments like that make me want to root for this team.

I don't feel cheated by Beckham being hurt, but I do feel cheated by what a joke of a team this is.

I may have deserved to get what I got by Beckham not being there. But none of us, especially a lot of you long-time Galaxy fans, deserve having such crap foisted on us as "our team".

I too blame the manager for playing him that much/long with a bad ankle.

    Also a question.

What were the black arm bands they were wearing in the Super Liga final?

I'm happy that the next time we seee Becks on the field for us he should be fully fit and there should be a fresh start and some new players around him to balance out our team.

    (I'm talking next season.)

There is already a thread about this, actually; it was in rememberance of Antonio Puerta, a 22 year old football player with Sevilla who died of a heart attack.

Well done, to both of you!

Becks' injury happens. That's the game. Too bad, but I dont feel cheated as a Galaxy fan.

Whoever said he'll pack his bags and retire doesnt really know anything about Becks ... not that I do, but I know this much - he is an intense competitor. He will not pack it in until his legs literally falls off, and even then, they will have to drag him off the field which he will be clutching at, saying "im ok, mate! let me play!"

Finally, I am REALLY SICK of people mocking soccer novices or casual fans who buy tickets to see Becks play. This shite attitude reminds me of the mopey fanboys whose favorite band suddenly hits it big. Instead of thinking, hey you know, that's great, now everyone will get to hear this great band and they will make money so that they can continue to produce more incredible music in the future, they think "crap, now that everyone loves them, Im not as special as I used to be"

If all you newbie-haters stop to think about it, our league MUST draw in more new fans every year. It needs to draw more fans to the TV to watch the games. The economics are so basic, they hardly bear repeating, but the more fans = the more money = more exposure + hiring more quality players = more quality league, more teams, more competition, (more beating Mexican teams) = more revenue = more of the same. So quit yer bitching about newbie fans.. If it's Becks that brings them in, so be it. Dont be so goddamn shortsighted.
