COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Major League Soccer's decision to pack the Los Angeles Galaxy's August schedule to maximize the exposure of David Beckham has come under attack from team president Alexi Lalas.

"We sure as hell are not going to put up with having another season like this," Lalas said in an exclusive interview with Yahoo! Sports after his club lost its fifth straight league game Sunday, a 3-0 defeat to the Colorado Rapids.

Whatever, the league has done a lot for the Galaxy. And supposedly it was LA's idea to be backloaded according to Garber. He could be lying, but I'm more likely to believe him that Lalas. I'm tired of rumors, when are the firings coming?!

if this is true I think this is a sign that Lalas is on the chopping block right now, could just be me thinking that.

He did this. He planned this. It was all part of his "Beckham Tour 2007". Im just surprised he didnt open up Beckhamland Ranch or something also.

Anyhow, I still have thankful for his need to be in the limelight... he brought Beckham to the league and to our team. If he gets canned, I am still grateful to him for that.

I'll be shocked if either Lalas or Yallop are with the Galaxy two weeks from now....Beckham has made them marginally better.....but that is one bad team.

How far does it go? Is Teflon Lieweke included in the blame, how about Shawn Hunter? They most certainly have the pull with the MLS higher ups. They could have easily protested and MLS would have bowed to their requests. Someone take the blame here!! Man up and be managers not Hollywood Movie Studio Execs. trying to shift the blame.

Lalas is an idiot...never a word about the possible difficulties until it started biting him in the you know where. We didn't know it would be THIS hard travelling all over the country and playing back to back games....come on now Lalas...you didn't know? Even us fans were immediately thinking way back when...whew....that's going to be hard and could be detrimental to our season.

Who was the moron that scheduled all these other friendlies? Did MLS do that too? Who scheduled the game with Minnesota? How about....let's fly to Australia and play.....I'm sure MLS is to blame for all of the scheduling problems.

His head is on the block and he's trying to save his job.....too late.

the article proves a valid point of being over worked. But with good management, a professional team should have the squad depth to play certain players for certain games and know when not to play players. Look at the EPL. Man U played something like 60+ games in 6(?) months, and Sir Alex figured a way to make it work without killing his players. Galaxy dug there own grave with Becks, now they have to get out.

So the schedule was backloaded and its terrible right Alexi? But then you put on the same thinking cap you use to put together a team and schedule friendlies in Minnesota and Vancouver in the middle of the season too.

    1. Did MLS also force L.A. into the disastrous Findley/Sturgis for Klein trade? No.

    2. Did GAlexi know before hand about the awful fake surfaces in the league when bringing in Xavier and Beckham? Yes.

If Temoc Blanco, with rickety knees, rickety back, 34 yrs. old and fouled a million times in his career can sac-up and dominate on crappy fake turf fields (man of the match at Toronto and RSL), then what exactly is Alexi's complaint?

    3. And the offseason tour of Asia--that'll be a nice rest for everybody.

The league needs more GMs who get things done--like Hitchcock in Dallas or Kevin Payne in DC--and less of the Lalas clown show. His continued presence with these whiny quotes is nothing but a negative for the league. Maybe the USL could use a carny barker?

So why didn't they win any of the home games at the beginning of the season?

LA's problem is they suck. And that's down to getting players that can play (looking at you Alexi) and good players who'll rise to the occasion, not disappear (looking at you LD)

Not only that, but why can't they win an MLS match only 5 games into this sked?

Exactly how many teams has Lalas mucked up at this point? At any point, did he accept responsibility for what he did to the two previous teams?

Don't expect him to accept any responsibility this time, either.

yeah, Lalas...never mind the waves upon waves of cash all those Beckham shirts are flooding in, never mind the hours and hours the galaxy are featured on ESPN and FSC...not to mention the worldwide cover that the galaxy get that no other MLS team gets.

he knows that he's not going to be riding on the cash train that Beckham is...he knows he's on the way out, and unfortunately Yallop is too (because I don't think he's the problem).

perhaps Beckham came a year or two early? Maybe Lalas shouldn't have shuffled the roster at the beginning of the season? As they have proven this year, you can have mounds of talent, but without chemistry, you are two steps below shit.

LAG fans have every right to be angry.

even if the schedule weren't backloaded, the galaxy would be about the same off record wise. The Galaxy played so poorly early in the season that extra games then probably wouldn't have helped them gain many more points, and whatever boost they get from Beckham at the end of the season could only be spent in fewer games. So I'm not saying that Galaxy are better off by the status quo but I don't think they are worse off. I think it evens out. They have about 3-4 games in hand on everybody, Beckham sits out an extra 3-4 to rest, and presto! everything evened out

When Becks got here they had only played ONE less game than Chivas USA and two less than RSL. Chivas had mostly road games to start the season to accomodate the Galaxy heavy home schedule. I don't either team complaining about it. Its not like they aren't cleaning up at the bank by "backloading" their schedule.

Lalas has done a lot for MLS and American soccer over his career but, to be honest, I don't understand how he is able to continuously find work in this league. It's just that whenever I see/hear him speak I get the strange feeling that he has no idea what he's doing.

I have several thoughts concerning all of this - first being how delighted I am to see the hated Galaxy in this situation (although I do feel very sorry for Beckham who must be wondering "What was I thinking??!!)
My second thought is how ridiculous it is for Alexi to blame the League when it has always seemed to me that the League has done everything they could to favor the Galaxy!
And, last but not least - I keep thinking about the interview (more like PR) that aired several times early in the season - I believe it was on Fox(either Mark Rogondino or Todd Grisham) - but in the interview Alexi stated something to the effect that the Galaxy are and always have been the "Crown Jewel" of MLS!!
    Some "jewel"

Can't blame him for trying, but as much as I hate to say it, this is the problem itself telling us that something else is the problem.
