I will take credit for suggesting Modesto, hes been a favourite of mine for some time now. But seriously Napoli should Realy strengthen teir defense by getting 1 or 2 players now before the market closes. Then in january make a small transfer in midfield. Id seriously consider Domenico Giampa, or Vigiani. They would bring good serie A experience to the team.

I wish Modesto was back at Ascoli :D.

You reakon Giampà??? All he's done for Ascoli was sit on the bench and collect 350 000 Euros. He's got a lot of energy but lacks substance, solid and consistant Napoli needs. I doubt Modena would let go of Giampà anyways considering they just signed him.

    Oh come on.

It was just one defeat, the league just started.

Disasters will always occur, if you didn't think they would, then you'd better reflect a little more.

Napoli has the whole season ahead of it.

From my point of view, the relegation battle will again go until the last day, plenty of squads are in danger: Parma, Catania, Napoli, Genoa, Livorno, Torino, Siena, Reggina, and even Atlanta.

The season will be very long, and three of these teams will be going down. I'm doubting that Napoli will be one of them, all things considered.

But if you defeat Catania at all, I will hope you all burn in Serie B. :D

In all seriousness - lighten up. The next game is against Pasquale Marino's Udinese. It'll be tough, but you guys should probably be able to win at least one point. Just remember, Pasquale loves the 4-3-3.

Out of all of the games, this one surprised me the most! Don't worry about it though, Napoli will fight back. :)

    Those photos are pretty rough.

Also just finished watching the highlights.... this game should have been 4-2 Napoli. Hamsik should have had a hat trick today.

Like someone said .. it could have been a different game.

We play Livorno on Wednesday for the Coppa Italia. Maybe we'll have better results in that game.

It felt worse listening to it on telecapri. But they were right, Cagliari made the best of the chances they had and we were unlucky to have not scored. Hamsik is the future

He really is. In a few years he will be up for player of the year if he keeps up his current skill and improves with age.

  12. OHH PLEASE STOP!!!!

Look...I am just as pissed off as the next die hard Napoli fan, but c'mon guys. We need to show more spirit, and support for our boys. There are 37 more games to play. Here are a few points we need to take into consideration:

    CANNAVARO & DOMIZZI

OK! These guys were banned for a match and they will be returning for the game in Udine. Our defense DOES need help in the depth department and Marino MUST move it along quickly as he only has 4 days to come up with something. But as long as we keep the yellow cards to a minimum and try not to get injured, we will do fine. Cannavaro, Domizzi, and Maldonado were brilliant last year, and if we have to play with a 4th, Contini is a good player. He will do fine.

    STELLAR MIDFIELD (IF USED RIGHT)

I saw someone say Hamsik is the future. UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE SEASON!!! This kid is brilliant. Along with Gargano, Blasi, Garics and Bogliacino, this is a REALLY GOOD MIDFIELD. We were all worried that we need one more decent midfielder, and Blasi is it!!! Granted he only has 1 professional goal that came last year in Serie B, but he is a hell of a player. Besides, we have enough goal scoring talent which brings me to my next point.

    I LOVE THE FRONT LINE

Calaio' and Lavezzi will pear up to be one of the best set of forwards in Serie A. MARK MY WORDS. We have TONS of options here. We can play with 2 strikers (however they must all include Calaio', he needs to play as much as he can), or we can play with a 3-4-3 or a 3-4-1-2. Personally, I would go with a 4-3-1-2, sort of how Italia played in WC2006, with De Zerbi or Lavezzi playing in the midfield/set-up/Totti role, with Calaio and Zalayeta. Then, there is always PAMPA SOSA, our heart & soul.

    EDY REJA

This is a touchy subject. I often question his motives for some of his decisions, but then again, I'm not the one who has been coaching professionally for decades. LOOK, he got us here. Wheather you like the way he did it or you dont, he did what De Laurentiis & Marino asked him to do in Serie C. He probably would have gotten us here had he been the coach the 1st half of the 04/05 season instead of Ventura. But go back and see what we have done since he has been our coach. Sunday was THE FIRST HOME LOSS IN 3 YEARS for god sake. i know it sucks, but say we were to go unbeaten from here till the end of the season. Thats 1 LOSS in 3-4 years. I will admit that at times, I'm yearning for Marcello Lippi, and in this environment, we need him. But give Reja a break. Calaio' came off because the goalie took a chuck of his head off. What else was he supposed to do? I admit, Bogliacino should have started over Savini, but there had to be a reason for that.

I read these boards and see my fellow napoletani putting shovel to the ground AFTER 1 MATCH, and I'm seeing Juve, Catania, Roma and Milan fans saying to relax and that they are confident Napoli will be fine. That is how much respect we have in this league. We will be a force to be reckoned with. How do you suppose the Inter fans feel? Not for nothing, but I saw that match and Inter (like us) should have put the ball away like 4 times and only did it once, only to have Udinese stick it to them with 3 minutes left. Or even better, how do u think Manchester United fans feel? They couldnt BUY a victory until yesterday, and they scrapped by Tottenham. After 4 games they have 5 points while Chelsea, the leaders, have 12 and MAN CITY have 9. All I am saying is that we have plenty of time to bounce back. I am very, very down about the loss as I too was absolutely certain that we had 3 points in the bag. But I'm not worried about relegation just yet. THIS IS NOT SERIE C or SERIE B...THIS IS SERIE A!!! And I dont care what kind of moves we made or didnt make. De La & Marino promises Europe in 2-3 years, BUT THEY NEVER SAID THIS WILL BE EASY!!!

Yup the gulf in class between the defence and the midfielders/attack at the other end of the field looked huge. If the defence weren't so horrendous then the rest of the team could have had more confidence to really push on and try get something more out of the game.

The penalty was soo soft, it was like he said "**k it, I can't be bothered to tackle him, I'll just take him down", that kinda lazyness could be expected at the end of the season but not at the start. With Cannavaro and Domizzi back, theres more hope for Napoli as you rightly said.

Napoli will be fine, Its just not the "IDEAL" start to the campaign because the next 2 games are against Udinese and Sampdoria. I would have rathered win the first game then try and scrape a point here and there in the next 2 games, but it didnt go that way. Maybe this is a wakeup call to Napoli, beacuse last year they didnt even play well and cruised through serie b. In Serie A they must show up to every game and play. I hope this loss feuls the Desire within the team.

I agree, I hope this loss was a wake up call to Napoli. Napoli needs to know that they cant slip up at all. Their roster wont allow them to power past teams with their skill.

    Napoli Goalie Fears Visious Cycle

Napoli goalkeeper Gennaro Iezzo has called for his team to get their act together straight away after thier hotly anticipated return to the Serie A ended in a morale-bruising 2-0 defeat at home to Cagliari.

"We need to wake up right away or we will hit a vicious circle and be in trouble by October," warned the veteran shotstopper.

"Serie A is difficult and you don’t just survive because of the club badge. We need to keep our feet on the ground and battle for safety.

"At this level one moment can undo you like Alessandro Matri’s goal on Sunday. We lost to a Cagliari side who aren’t exceptional, but they have players with more top-flight experience than us."

Indeed, Napoli had better bring their A-game next Sunday, as they must travel to face an Udinese side that will be brimming with confidence following their impressive draw away to defending champions Inter. - Goal.com

Hopefully the experience of former Serie A players such as Iezzo, and Zalayeta who has gone trough a lot at Juve, can steer this team back onto the successful path soon because we have 2 tough oppositions in the next 2 weeks. This weekend Udinese and Sampdoria next, and like we all have said before Cagliari was a perfect chance to capture 3 points rather than risk the chance of going into October with 0 points :(

The problem my friends is Edy Reja!! He sucked in Serie B and we made it to A miraculously with him as our coach. I knew he had to go last season but noooo let's keep him for freakin' Serie A. We buy Zalayeta when it's sooooo obvious that we need a regular goal scorer with Serie A experience. I'm very disappointed what else can I say..........

I am sorry for my 'when does B start' outburst, It is clear that we can't afford any mistakes at the back, there were lots of times last year where we were saved by poor finishing by the opposition and that will NOT happen in Serie A.If we can beat a 'big' team away from home then this result will be atoned for

Don't be sorry ... you're a fan and you were pissed .. we all are.

And you're right but I think to make up for this loss we have to beat Cagliari in Sardinia and also beat a larger club away. Losing to a ************ team at home sucks ass.

no need for apologies, nnj is right. you're pissed. we do need to "make" up these 3 points by pulling out an unexpected result down the line somewhere.

Hopefully Reja tooks notes from Giampaolo. Even if on paper Napoli appeared stronger, tactics and organization will always overcome. That said, we should have gotten Foggia

Agreed .. he's good and he's from Napoli. Two things we shouldn't pass up in the market.

Players from Napoli who we could have gone for but didn't:

    Quagliarella ST
    Floro Flores ST
    Foggia MF
    Mirante GK
    Esposito MF
    Domenico Criscito DF
    Antonio Nocerino MF
    Lodi MF
    F. Cannavaro DF (OK not really but while I was on a role I figured what the hell)

I mean, shit, if we would have gone for all of these guys we could have been a powerhouse right now!!
