Denver media is reporting that the Galaxy and Rapids have told them that Beckham will not even be travelling to Colorado for tomorrow's game.

    http://www.9news.com/news/top-article.aspx?storyid=76071

Colorado will not be giving refunds

    Two points.
    1. Great, anything that increases the chances of the Rapids winning is a good thing
    2. Colorado should not be expected to do anything for ticket holders. You buy your tickcet and you take your chances.

That being said, PR disaster in the making in Colorado this weekend.

That's now two MLS teams (Dallas, and Colorado) that won't see Beckham at one of their games this year. Add on Toronto and New England that only got his presence on the bench and the plan to have Beckham play in every city isn't working too well, he's already missed a third of them.

This Beckham thing backfired on both MLS and us. I hope they learned their lesson.

Thank god. anyone else see him limping around the other night? the guy needs a break.

We wish you well beckham. hope to see you next year in dicks sporting goods stadium. Now if we can just get him to sit down and relax until he's completely healthy instead of feeling like he needs to be the broken show pony, we might see some magic on the pitch from him.

Theres a thought galaxy front office. WOW. have him rest maybe and able to play without hobbling around the pitch like an 80 year old woman !

And stop making the excuse that "he wanted to play, we didnt force him" your the front office and your the manager and coach. the money you paid him, he's your employee not the other way around. Thank him for his work ethic but tell him to sit the hell down. Jeez.

When is the galaxy FO going to be smart enough to know that an extra week without beckham is better then a hobbling active beckham.

    Expect more.

And don't expect Donovan to play in all 19 games in 10 weeks.

In fact... don't expect ANY Galaxy player to play in 19 games in 10 weeks.

When I lived near St. Louis, I used to go to a Cardinals game about once a year with the family. (More often with work associates.) So that one game was a special occasion.

In 1998, the year Mark McGwire broke Roger Maris's single-season home run record, I took the wife and kids to our one-and-only Cardinals game on August 29th. He was only four home runs away from the record. The place was buzzing. It was hopping. People were excited.

Guess what happens? McGwire gets called out on strikes in the first inning, he pitches a fit, and is ejected. The crowd goes nuts; they're throwing things on the field, blah blah blah.

Did I ask for a refund because I didn't get to see a full game of McGwire? Ridiculous. I would've considered anyone who did so a moron. You're buying a ticket to a team game, not a one-man show. If the player you really wanted to see isn't there for one reason or another, well, them's the breaks.

I think he was referring to the ridiculous schedule the league arranged for Beckham's Magical Mystery Tour. That was/is a disaster. It was always too much too ask for a man/team to play a schedule like that. Beckham's injury has spoiled the whole purpose of the silly schedule, and the marathon is killing an LA team already gasping for air.

Well it looks like Colorado didn't add on a "Beckham Charge" to the game like they did in KC. Considering tickets are about 2.5x the regular price in KC, I really hope he doesn't miss our game. I wouldn't care, if the guys needs to sit, the guy needs to sit, it happens. But not offering refunds when you are over charging seems shady.

Oh well, sorry Denver, just be glad you are in the west, you get him twice next year.

They did require you to purchase a 4 game pack to get most of the tickets for tomorrow's game.

And unless we're playing 38 games next season, there's no guarantee that Colorado will see him twice next year.

Not surprising. The league and the Galaxy really ought to be ashamed of themselves for how badly they've handled this. If the popular media in the USA were actually interested in soccer and not simple the celebrity appeal of Beckham, then maybe there would be some accountability for this mini-disaster. While on the whole, I think that this is still going to be a positive for MLS (it already is in many ways) I wish the powers that be handled themselves with a bit more maturity.

I don't think it has backfired at all. He came into a season that was more than half-way with a team that was misfiring terribly, besides being injured. We can see he can play, look at the DC United game. Just give it some time before writing this off, the team needs some work....

In regards to the Colorado game, I wouldn't bring him, he needs some time to rest up and rehab his ankle and be ready for the SuperLiga final next week. At this point, realistically the is their only real shot at holding up a trophy this season. But it would be nice to win some games during the rest of this season to end with something positive.

The two games that he played in when he was healthy, he looked great. He should have never played against Chivas after a 10 hour flight from England after playing 90 minutes against Germany. I don't care how young you are, that is just plain stupid. He is lucky to not have sustained a season ending injury during that game.

Let's hope they learned this lesson: backloading the schedule to over milk the Beckham cow was bad for PR. If the Galaxy weren't playing three games a week, they might be playing a bit better and MLS might see Beckham in the playoffs. Also, they might not have so many injuries.

And talk about gasping for air.

    From MLSNet:

LOS ANGELES GALAXY - OUT: DF Chris Albright (R hamstring); MF David Beckham (L ankle); MF Kelly Gray (R calf); DF Ty Harden (R hip); DF Ante Jazic (R ankle); QUESTIONABLE: DF Quavas Kirk (L foot); MF Cobi Jones (R hip); DF Abel Xavier (L knee); PROBABLE: FW Edson Buddle (L Achilles); DF Troy Roberts (R ankle); DF Kyle Veris (R hip); MF Peter Vagenas (R quadriceps)

SUSPENDED: LA: Kevin Harmse (through Aug. 26)

Look at all the defender injuries in particular - no wonder the team's hemorrhaging goals. And with Harmse (defender/midfielder) suspended... Mike Randolph is literally the only fully healthy and available defender for tomorrow's match. Ugh.

So true. I realize it was an ESPN game but there is no way he should have played. The guy really needa an off season and soon. With the world cup, the 06-07 la liga season and now MLS he's been play non-stop (other than injuries) since the start of the 05-06 season.

I'll bet MLS doesn't see it that way. So far, it seems like signing Beckham has exceeded expectations. The amount of media coverage alone is amazing.

The only lesson MLS may learn from this is to do more of it.

I think it's too early to tell how it impacts LA. The little he has played, though, seems to support his signing. It's only if he stays injured that you may end up being right.

And let's hope that doesn't happen.

Thank God the MLS off season is 5 months long, instead of 2 like in Europe. And that 2 ends up only really being one since the next month is the beginning of pre-season. I'm sure Galaxy will have some exhibition matches during that time, but nothing like what their going through right now.

I just love all the Galaxy fans whining in their forum that MLS NEEDS to do bend the rules and give LA whatever it takes (i.e. Larger salary cap, acquisitions, more DPs, etc) to be a winning team.

Yet 4 of the best teams in MLS at the moment don't have DPs (DC, Chivas, Houston, NE).

To be fair, Chivas did "use" its DP slot to trade for Guevara.

Yeah, it backfired horribly on them so your point stands

My God, so Beckham isn't playing...which to be frank he shouldn't after playing two freakin games in two days on the opposite sides of the world one of whom was against GERMANY!.

Does that mean there no game? No! You bought tickets to see a game of football (soccer) and yes, it sucks when the top players don't show, but frankly what Rapids fans and visitors should want to see is a Rapids win. Get behind the team, get loud, get stoopid, sing songs, get drunk and see if you have a good time (maybe better than simply taking pictures of goldenballs).

The game itself is bigger than individual players, and the game itself an be jut as great a spectacle without Becks.

Oh, and I think Rapids should be looking at this one as a "should win game"

I've had tickets since February to the game (and a bunch of others) and I'm not too terribly disappointed. It's the sort of thing you expect in sports. I don't blame MLS for trying to set up the schedule so everybody gets to see Becks. But I think it was incredibly stupid to also add the Superliga, the exhibition with Chelsea, other exhibitions, the trip to Australia (which is over a month past the end of the regular season), and who knows what else. It's almost like they're whoring him out. Give the poor guy a break.

It will probably be a good thing if the Galaxy miss the playoffs, it will give the team a longer offseason to recuperate, and as a previous poster mentioned, much like when Tim Howard moved to Man U, he didn't have an offseason for about a year and a half because of the differences in playing seasons, Beckham needs a real offseason to get healthy. They should cancel the Australia trip IMO, but it would be a bad PR move. Lalas and Yallop's heads need to roll just because of all the managerial and executive mistakes they've made in the last 6 months.
