i must admit what looked on paper like a boreing match has turned out a decent performance from the lads so far.

not bad at all but still a friendly.

This is encouraging for the Slovak game.

Don't get your hopes too high, we also lost 4-0 to the Netherlands about a year ago and then put in a good performance against Germany. Same thing with the Cyprus and Czech games (the Czech game was decent I guess). So far it seems to be a crap shoot as to which team shows up, it does seem that whenever they feel like they need to win (Staunton's first match, Germany game, this match a week after Staunton's father died, or even the first match in Croke Park, even though I wouldn't say the Irish were at their best that game) that the team gets their heads out of their asses. I guess we'll see in 2 weeks.

FT 4-0. Hopefully the highlights get shown at some stage, but good result and let's hope (...again) that it's a sign of things to come.

yeah bit like a lucky bag, ya never know what you're gonna get. still very positive tho. ireland was always capable of drawing any team no matter how big but when they were expected to dictate the game against 'easy' teams they often lacked big time. i classed the slovaks as a typical 1 all opponent but todays performance showed a definite change, if they can keep it up we're looking at a good chance of getting second...........atleast:p

still looking for tiks!!! pm pm pm!

Well. This I did not expect. I won't comment on the performances until I've seen the full match, though it sounds as though everyone played well.

RTE analysts more or less agree that this was a perfect exercise. Well done to the lads!

Congrats to the Irish...good game by your players...

It's the biggest Danish home defeat in 48 years... The danish team simply did not show up but played so poorly that it almost makes you laugh... Fortunately I dont think we will see a danish team make a fool of themself like this the next 48 years, so I dont see any reason to worry about the result.

This is what I was guessing. Its good to know that we can do this to teams, and by all means be happy about the result, but don't overhype the next game and just assume Slovakia won't show up or that this will happen again. The same thing happened to us last year and the Dutch, they promptly went out and beat Luxembourg 1-0. Again, we will see :)

There's something about Ireland that brings out the worst in Denmark. Last time we met in Dublin, we got sent home with a 3-0. This time, we took it in the pooper. Sideways. Without lube.

Not necessarily a great game from Ireland, but extremely effective, even if it was against a Denmark side which put in the worst performance of the millenium. You bossed the midfield, contained the wingers and forwards, and made the most of the few chances you got. Classy move by Long on the 4-0 too, turning inside his man to leave himself alone with the keeper.

Best part about the game from our perspective? Nobody invaded the pitch and attacked the ref.

    Congrats on the victory.

This result should give you a lot of confidence for the Euro 2008 quali.

Didn't think it was worth starting a new thread for this. In group D last night Cyprus beat San Marino 1-0 in San Marino.
