What do you guys think about Mo getting 3 new players in here on a trial basis. 2 Mexicans 1 Brazilian I think 2 are strikers and one is here to replace Welsh temporarly until we sign Christiano Ronaldo. And what about "Sending some players to Prem League in England to get training in"?
Here's the article if some of you are lost: http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070821.wspttfc21/GSStory/GlobeSportsSoccer/home
its a good idea since Mo's tried players from everywhere else except for south america and mexico. Every TFC game i watch, there seems to be more and more latin american players driving TFC nuts in their own zone. I watched a game from Argentina this past weekend, River Plate vs. San Lorenzo, great game and a former Argentinian star Ariel Ortega was playing very well for river at 33 years old, you can tell he is in the twilight of his career in Argentina, but he would be amazing in the MLS and in a Toronto FC uniform... exactly the same as how Columbus brought over Guillermo Barros Schelotto who is now doing amazing things in Columbus. Hopefully Mo can bring in a high impact player like that.
I read this on my way into work. It is good to see MO exploring other avenues to get players and not just looking to Europe. I wonder who will be working out with TFC this week? I also wonder who the lucky 4 maybe to go the English Premier League? Anyone care to speculate?
For what its worth, the EPL Club will probably be one of the middle of the road clubs (Tottenham?) and more than likely MO will send over some of the younger guys, or Canadian guys. Lombardo, Braz, Canizalez.... Speculate and let the rumor mill begin!!!!
Ortega didn't play well abroad, bouncing around to Valencia, Sampdoria, Parma, and Fenerbahce. Plus, he's a bit of a drinker, and has had a couple of off-field issues due to it. He's always loved playing for River Plate. There are good players down in Argentina, it's just about finding the right one who's willing to play in North America. These days, plenty of Argies prefer the riches of the Mexican League, easier assimilation to the culture, better weather for the most part, etc...
it could be MAriano trujillo, who stated one of his options was mls or south america, He was playing in Greece but 4 some personal problem he couldn't stay, hes a great player, Midfield with an offensive push. heres part of the article, its in spanish tho....so i dont know if you guys care.
how about an EPL club sending us 4 young players instead, who do we have honestly that even could sit on the bench of an EPL team, unless he wants our players just to use their training facilities.
He's building reciprocal loan agreements and getting our guys a chance to work at the best training facilities out there, which are in the EPL. So I can't see anything but positives it. Plus, he's keeping guys in playing condition in the off season, while also making them better suited to serve the national team. As for the new players, we seriously need a speed forward who knows how to open up space, ala cunningham, and we need a winger who can slot in on either side. Can't see how we could go wrong picking from the fairly vast assortment of guys who could play at at least the MLS level in either country, since there are literally hundreds of them. I've a feeling there are a lot of Tojas out there, and MLS is going to start seeing many more of them as the league expands rosters and builds more club relationships. Trujillo would be a killer signing.
LOL, I see your point but I think Mo imagines our players to play with their youth sides and have their work ethic rub off or something. Personally I would rather see us loan out players to lower quality CCC sides or high-to-mid quality League 1 sides because a truly competitive match is the best way to gain experience, but than again, as the poster above me mentioned, he might be looking to establish a reciprocal loaning system, in which case an EPL team would be preferable.
Didn't Man U send coaches to train with us before the season? And isn't Man U building an academy in Canada? I speculate Man U takes some of our mediocre talents and "tries" to shape them up. Anyone know if these guys will even get a game with us?
From The Score Footy Blog Johnston brought a player to train with the team today. “We had one kid here, a Mexican kid. Doesn’t look too good. End of story”, he said. I watched him in training for a bit and I’d have to concur. He seemed exhausted and didn’t look any better than youngsters like David Guzman. You’ve got to love Mo’s blunt assessments of the players he brings in on trials.
The announcement of the Man United academy in the city's west end was suppose to be announced on August 1. Since that didn't happen, I'm going to assume that rumor was shot down.
Yeah, but as for a proper academy, there has been no official word yet. Can we please get the Dutch or the French to set up shop here instead of the English.
Dutch and French? Maybe the Dutch, hell just call representitives from Ajax and Sporting Lisboa since they both have the most successful youth academies in the world.

Any agreement between TFC and a Prem squad should be designed to ensure that our better young players get to go over to England to train with a reserve / youth team throughout the off-season, gain valuable experience and avoid a long, unproductive off-season. If I had to suggest 4-5 players that would benefit tremendously from this type of loan program, they would be: - Lombardo - Melo - Boyens - Edu - Lumley or Attakora-Gyan
Unless the players have UK/EU passports, I am unclear how this would work. Canadians get no special treatment from the Home Office in the UK vis-a-vis work permits. Given that no young TFC player is going to qualify as an exceptional player for a work permit to the UK, I am very confused how Mo would get them over there. Cheers!
