Well not a lot but 2 back to back segments. One was about Beckham and one about the infamous headbutt. Was pretty good at least they treat it fairly. Wilbon seems to becoming quite a fan.
Agreed. Their analysis was spot on: The RBNY game was huge for the league, but the league needs more big (exciting) games on a consistent basis to capture the nation's interest.
Wilbon said there were 15K in Columbus. Announced was 21K, correct? I'm guessing Wilbon is a secret Big Soccer lurker and knows that "announced" and "actual" are big topics on here.
Except for his hazy overestimation of the NASL. In the ESPN broadcast of LA/DC, he said how the NASL averaged 30K attendance at its peak. Problem is, that was only when the Cosmos played. Leaguewide attendance averages never got above 15K.
Does PTI get repeated in the afternoon/night? The time is so inconvenient and I don't have a TiVo/DVR right now.
I honestly cant watch PTI when it comes to soccer coverage i get embarrased for them. Then irritated with how stupid they sound so i promptly switch over to FSC gol tv or ESPN deportes. they do the best job, to bad a whole bunch of you dont speak spanish the coverage of the sport seems a hell of alot better on Deportes.
Found it: http://broadband.espn.go.com/ivp/splash2?id=2983601 Not sure how long it will be up for. Also the infamous head butt: http://broadband.espn.go.com/ivp/splash2?id=2983605
They talk about Beckham after each of his games, but when are they gonna talk about other parts of the MLS?
That vague motion you feel right now is a corner being turned. Slowly, surely. It's getting harder for these guys to keep up the kneejerk bashing. It's starting to feel dated, somehow, kind of passe. Maybe I'm just seeing things through rose-colored glasses today. I don't know. But even Kornheiser's jabs in these clips seemed half-hearted and feeble -- playing devil's advocate just for the sake of playing devil's advocate. And it's nice to see Willbon genuinely caught up in a new enthusiasm for the sport.
Ca Hey which of you here would like a job like that? The little nerd dude is stealing money from ESPN, you mean to tell me there arent thousands of guys out there who nothing about soccer, and who can be just a tad bit more humorous than him? Wouldn't you love to work a half an hour a day, and when it gets to a topic you know nothing about you say something so absurd that if you werent on TV people would want to be commited. That is what it is like to be Tony Kornhiser/hauser... whatever. My take: " Gee wilbon, they need more 5-4 scores, more 14-13 scorelines that is what would make great soccer." "Really Tony... you think?" "Yeah tell the guys to shoot more. maybe they shouldn't let the goaltender use his hands after the 7 inning or whatever those people call it." "What Tony, innings... they dont play innings." "whatever Wilbon that is what will make it interesting... totally copy the NFL, let manning come in and throw a 60 yard goal. you know me and him rubbed each other thighs in a hot tub once wilbon." "ewww tony, I dont want to go there." "fine be jealous... next topic... WNBA "
Maybe, but they will turn on MLS so fast it will break your neck if attendance or excitement begins to stall...
This is the point that gets missed by many. No one is expecting eye popping insight from shows like this. Its the progressing or change in attitude that people are interested in. **And for the note, interest in progression DOESNT automatically mean hand wringing "validation." (A term that gets overused alot)
