The reason Polyphonic Daisy is a good fit is because they are just like the sport itself. The band has a cult following in the States and is one of the most popular bands in the world outside of the states.
I agree. The spelling nonsense makes it way worse than it would be otherwise. Houston's is the best, though I hate to say it.
no. they sell out as many shows as they can afford to book. I saw a video of them at a festival in Tokyo that they headlined and there were probably 100k people there. here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAcjW2O9F88 here they are in Manchester, England http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t01zZxekE2s
Whoever is either in last place or hopelessly out of playoff contention should open to the strains of "Nowhere Now" by the Secret Machines. Well, Houston could use it too, anytime. I'd be all for local Dallas bands getting cred by way of FCD games, but I'd imagine that's a tune we'd want playing in someone else's stadium.
That Manchester video is 4 years old. I don't care what the Hardline thinks about anything at all related to FC Dallas. It just frustrates me to see more marketing targeting the soccer mom crowd....Houston gets Mike Jones, Chicago gets OK Go....we get Polyphonic Spree.
Ruiz is cool, but I'd rather they used Toja's pic instead as well. But there I'm just being nitpicky.
Excellent suggestion. Phil Anselmo (ex-Pantera vocalist) is currently working with the band Down, which is one of the best American metal bands running (the style can be summed up as "southern-fried metal"). Anything with Phil Anselmo would've been sweet...Down's third album is being released soon, BTW. I'm not feeling the Spree. I was hoping for something to give a kick in the butt, and although I hate hip-hop, actually enjoyed Houston's song. By the way, if you're in the mood for a hysterical laugh riot, check out Real Salt Lake's song....that takes the cake right there. 18 year old pop singers do not really exemplify the hardcore passion of football...but that's just me.
The bulk of the song's not bad, but the "H-O-O-P-S, Yes" line is pretty awful - definitely can't see myself singing along to that. Still, at least it's better than the dreck that BNL threw together for Toronto. I liked the intro to Salt Lake's, but my god those could possibly be the worst lyrics ever written! Have to disagree with the majority here on Houston's song too - that shit's just unlistenable for me. OK GO's song for the Fire has to be the winner for me. If it wasn't for the team they're singing about, I'd even consider downloading it.
The more I listen to the FCD song, the more I like it. Not something I would download and listen to everyday, but it's not too shabby.
Weird, huh? Again, I think the real test is listen to all the others then come back to it. Other that Houston's (grrrr....), ours isn't necessarily worse than others. I know I'm relieved that Chicago's isn't as good as it could have been - the idea that Ok Go would do theirs put a frown on my face at first.
I'm confused... are these those supposed to be pre-game pump up the crowd songs or catchy music that can be used in TV commercials? Cuz I'm not pumped hearing something that sounds like it was written and performed by high school cheerleaders. The background beat is nice but the lyrics are horrible. I'm not even sure what they are saying other than H-O-O-P-S Noooooooooooooooo!
If they ever play this song at PHP, it will cause Toja's head to explode, thus killing our playoff hopes....
give them some time? their time is long, long past. I gave them exactly the amount of time they deserved: about two weeks, about four years ago. they are done and dusted, they had a very limited range, and just because I like Tim's story doesn't mean I need to spare this band any thought so long after the fact. the best metroplex band, hands down, is Old 97s. none of their lyrics would fit the mood called for, but playing any of their riffs over the video would work well.
If you out and out don't like the spree or old Daisy then I've got one that could've been the winner. We could've grabbed the band that started in Shawnee, OK. The band is Shiny Toy Guns. They offered the best track for FIFA07. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxbWaMzsnJo
it's not that I don't like them, it's just that they're in the big great middle of "bands that aren't worth talking or thinking about." they're classically mediocre, middling, average, ho-hum meh. ugh, why couldn't STG have been from anywhere but OK? no, we can't have anything from OK, regardless of how appropriate it might be.
yeah I agree with the OK needs to be minimalized statement. I would put Polyphonic Spree in with Queen for bands that are different. They both are technically brilliant but create such a different sound that some just can't wrap their ears around it. It's a style thing right?
