The last five minutes? They started hacking at the Revs in the first 5 minutes. I knew one of their players was going to get red-carded. I was only surprised it took that long. I have been advocating this for a few weeks now. I suggested to my seatmates at the last game, and it was like a 'Eureka' moment. Everyone was like 'yes, that might work'
Hell, tomorrow when I'm in the office I'm going to tack one more day onto my two week vacation (was scheduled to be back that day). Mike
I agree with most of what you say, except for the second yellow (from my angle, it definitely looked like the guy took a little shot after Matt had the ball). As much as I would have liked to see them go for more goals, they weren't threatened very much except for the free kick. It did make for a very lulling second half, but at the same time it wasn't like they had a lot of pressure to diffuse. Mike
Getting a close up view of Thompson my opinion is that he is still green as hell. He was wide open much of the first half and his teammates were reluctant to pass to him. He's a project. For the second half we were treated to Marshall Leonard. Damn did he look past it. It's hard to miss a year or two at this level and come back. I think he's done. Khano would have done well in this game.
It was only a two-man wall, and Cristman, one of the two, peeled off just before the kick to cover an Islander who wandered off toward the corner. The ball went right into the area of the goal that should have been somewhat protected by the "wall" and Matt flipped out about it instantly. Just a brain fart by AC, albeit as a result of a well-intentioned act. On the other subject du jour: I like Leonard, but he did look slow and under-sized against this USL-2 team, which is not a good sign. Of course, some of it may be that he is still not fully himself again -- it can take a long time to come back from an injury like that, both in terms of physicality and in terms of confidence -- and some folks never do. But he won't have long to get his mojo back if he doesn't play more and soon. He's in a tough spot: it's a negative feedback loop...
