Don't know about the rest of you but I enjoy watching the games on Univision/Gala but being linguistically challenged I miss 95% of the commentary. It seems to me that if they put subtitles an awful lot of us would watch more of the games, I e-mailed them with the idea. Any thoughts?
I will forever regret not studying Spanish in school....what makes it even worse is that I studied Norwegian.....and I'm Indian. Poor decisions.
LOL! I took Italian for 2 years and I can read an Italian news paper no problem. I'm starting Spanish this year.
Maybe an English telecast could be made available by pushing the SAP button on your TV But seriously, they didn't have the English rights to the WC, and would probably have to pay more for English Mexican League rights.
It's not like enough would watch MFL in English to persuade advertisers to chip in more $$$ to pay for the effort. It's not like the SAP on Monday Night Football on ABC which draws quite a following.
Don't worry - I went to Spain and found that a bunch of people there have taken English for years and can't say anything in the language. They usually insist that they can read something in English and understand some of it, though. Go figure.
I can read Latin and understand most of it. I tookit for 4 years... but i guess part of the reason that I cant speak it is because no one else speaks it...at least i have an excuse
Guess what? Spanish is my first languague, but I dont watch Univision/Galavision soccer, except when they show some Copa Oro, USA games. But, yeah, go for it. Spanish is great. Being Hispanic makes me feel very proud.
trust me, i would prefer to know some spanish... and i did know about the same as my teacher by the end, but she was and idiot and that was years ago
I find that there is a lot of difference between reading a language and actually speaking and understanding it. I could always read spanish ok, but whenever i try to hear what people speaking i have a hard time. i used to have a spanish teacher that had spanish as a second language and i always did well in her class. The next year I had a different teacher that had spanish as her first language. it was like i had to take spanish all over again because she spoke so fast and said it how a spanish person would really say it. there is a lot of difference between a language in the classroom and actually speaking it.
GoHawks4 Does anybody have the English rights to the MFL? Fox Sports World used to pass MFL games with English anouncers. I dont think FSW or FSWE have MFL league rights anymore.
Re: GoHawks4 With the birth of Azteca America... Telemundo, FSWE, & FSW lost Mexican programming. I have seen a couple Primera "A" games on FSWE. I dont know if FSWE will carry them this season though.
While watching a telenovela on Telemundo once for,eh, "research" I noticed that it said that you could read it in English if I had Closed Captioning 2 or something. I just put my tv on caption but it didn't work so it is possible.
Heh heh, I took 4 years of high school Spanish in a New York City public school which is as good as learning nothing. Plus I'm going to Spain next week so I better brush up on my "donde esta el bano", "mi casa es su casa", and "Oooh Mamacita!".
