Who wants to forecast our starting lineup for the first game? I'm especially interested in the back four, assuming we don't sign a new defender.

We must improve our 'goals against' record or we'll be in trouble---again.

i was just pondering the same right as i logged in...you read my mind!

i think this would be a formidable line up...i'd play 4-4-2 with two attacking wingers in mid. it would allow us to play our wide open, free flow football.

    spector----ferdinand----gabbidon----neill

    -----------noble----------parker------------

    ljungberg-------------------------boa morte

    -------------ashton----bellamy-------------

i'm assuming, of course, tevez is as good as gone. i wish i could find my copy of football manager and try out that lineup...

    The lineup I expect:

    ---------------Green---------------

    Neill----Gabbidon----Upson----McCartney

    -----------noble----------parker------------

    ljungberg-------------------------boa morte

    -------------ashton----bellamy-------------

    The lineup I would like:

    ---------------Green---------------

    Neill----Gabbidon----Upson----Shorey

    ---------Appiah/Noble------parker---------

    ljungberg-------------------------boa morte

    -------------ashton----GudJonsson---------

First choice Green, second choice Neill, third choice Collins and i'll take any combo after those three.

Quick quiz for the Arse (and possibly L'pool and with what SGE is doing, City) fans...... What is odd about this team????

    -----------------Green---------------

    --------Anton----D'port-----Upson------

    Dyer----Noble----Parker----Bowyer----Ethers

    -------------Ashton------Bobby Z.----------

Hint: it has something to do with a country south of Scotland.

Agree if you throw in Ashton as four and Noble as five.

My one and only doubt with Green is that sometimes he seems to give up on the save a bit too early. I think he is a great keeper and definitely worth the no 1 spot on the side. But occasionally he seems to either stand and watch the shot or produce a half hearted dive. What was he doing when Southend's goal went in?

When he does it it just leaves you feeling that he didn't really give it his all and now we will never know whether he could have kept it out.

Not a cricitism on ability, just effort.

    good thread.

The line-up looks very good, would have looked a whole lot nicer with Carlito.

I wonder where WHU will finish. Predictions?

    I say between 5th and 9th.

These lineups may have to be modified a little re future incomings and outgoings but aint it wonderful to have choices ! As for where we end up, i would be happy with a top half finish.
At this time of year i tend to spend more time drooling over a shortlist of teams that i would like to get one over on, we now have the owner we wanted, the manager we wanted and nows the time to show England what a "small, selling club", can become.

Green was well out of position for Southends goal. It really was probably a freak shot. However he can't play like that, to far forward in the prem.

I think the back four will be. Neill, Ferdinand, Upson, McCartney

Strong feeling we are pushing hard for Shorey now. Not sure whether he will come of course but we are strongly being linked to 2-4 players. Includes Dyer who i hear the geordies may come back to us on.
