I'm assuming that Rossi will start because he's versatile, can play an advanced midfield role, support striker and striker, and just on pure talent. It seems Villarreal have bought him out of the blue, so i'm guessing they've probably been silently tracking him for a while and have plans for him, and they've sold there main striker too. I'm definately not worried about him not getting games, and it'll be a good fit for him. He's also got a good supporting cast, Riquelme just to name one, and defenders are notoriously rash in Spain, so hopefully he'll progress. You can't really compare his situation to Maresca or other Italian based Spanish players, as on the NT there are plenty of players in there position (especially Maresca, I'd take Pirlo, De Rossi, Perrotta etc. over him any day). And talking about Cassano as an example of how Italian players are treated in Spain is retarded. Cassano had a terrible attitude while Rossi is a model professional who didn't even complain when he was on that crap loan spell at Newcastle. I think it'll be good for him.

Ghirardi, Parma's owner, had previously declared that 10 million was too much, out of the question, and Napoli was probably towing the same line. Evidently Villarreal came up with a lot bigger offer than any Italian club was willing to pay. Still it's crazy that no Italian club was willing to spend 11 million on Rossi, especially if you consider that Milan is ready to drop 25 million for Pato. We are bummed over here. OK, it's been obvious to everyone ('cept to certain posters who shall not be named... ) since Ferguson's 'remarks' that Rossi had no future at ManUtd, but Villarreal is still a surprise. Anyone know if they're in the Champions League qualifiers? And BTW, Rossi's agent was not 'blowing wind.' On the contrary, he's been very forthright all along.
Re: Rossi Scores the Best Goal of the Day they are in the uefa cup, so he will be in europe but not in the cl, as they finished fifth last season. villareal is a good team, if he can start and impress he will be in the spotlight there, they will be competing for a cl spot and the uefa cup this season most likely, especially if they get good money from riquelme and make another shrewd pickup or two. 11M euros, that makes me sick that milan wouldn't pay 11M euros for a young, talented player who is a fan of ours, proven in italy and is at a position we need. disappointing to say the least.

Re: Rossi Scores the Best Goal of the Day I think it was we have our heart set on pato and want to play gourcuff a lot and maybe have designs on moving kaka forward, so kaka forward plus pato is five strikers, and rossi for 11M wasn't the est option, in management's estimation, of course, then we are trying to get baptista, but at least that is for a cheap loan at first, so he won't be too expensive, but yeah, last year oliveira was worth 22M euros but rossi isn't worth 11M, i know it isn't the exact same situation now as then, but sometimes it does make you wonder how they reach these evaluations. oh well, in galliani I trust, eh?

Re: Rossi Scores the Best Goal of the Day I think Spain is going to be too fast for him. He settled well at Parma because of the slower, more technical tempo that he pretty much set. I'm really sad and disappointed as he was becoming one of my favorite players. I really wanted to see him in Serie A and develop the style of play that the Italian greats have developed in the past. The defensive aspect is stronger and Italy, and really tests the strikers to learn how to better their opposition. Eh, oh well.

Re: Rossi Scores the Best Goal of the Day I think people are overreacting too much, Villarreal are a good team with a great coach who knows how to get the best out of young players, a club like them is perfect for Rossi, Villarreal don't have heavy expectations surrounding them like Madrid, Barca or Valencia but they do pretty well for themselves in the league most seasons and I don't think a CL spot is out of reach if they play well this year. Also another thing at Villarreal he won't be the "star" player everyone looks to like he would at Parma or Napoli, at Villarreal the young Chilean attacking midfielder Matias Fernandez is and Rossi can quitely go about his business while at most Italian teams he would immediately be thrust into the spotlight and all the pressure it brings...

OF the 4 forward Villarreal have, 3 are around 3 years old and are squaddies who according to their stats don't score much. Nunes is 20 years old and I've never heard of him, and considering that Villarreal have shelled out a fair sum of money for him he will definately be a starter. And Rossi isn't stupid, why would he move from one club where he isn't going to get regular football to another? It doesn't make sense. Hopefully Donadoni (or whoever is managing Italy come Euro 08) can look beyond the fact that he plays in Spain, especialy sinc he has such extraordinary talent.
Re: Rossi Scores the Best Goal of the Day With Diego Forlan leaving there is no main striker at Villarreal the closest thing is Tomasson who spent the 2nd half of last season on loan at Villarreal and has now joined permanently but Rossi will smoke him if he finds form and your right the other strikers (Franco, Jose Mari etc.) are squaddies at best. If Rossi hits form he will start every game I have no doubt.

Re: Rossi Scores the Best Goal of the Day Nothing to do with Man Utd. He felt he should be playing regular first team football and that was never going to happen at an elite side. He was rated highly and we all wanted him to stay. Losing Rossi puts us in a very bad position before the season even starts. When Smith leaves, Rooney will be the only striking option ready to start the season. Not good at all. Ferguson never remarked that Rossi had no future. He simply stated that the kid wanted regular football and might need to move on to get it, which is why we loaned him out in the first place. If it were up to Ferguson then Rossi would still be a Man Utd player. The truth is the kid wanted regular football and his agent was sounding out any club who would listen. Not much you can do about that.
