Try getting out of work at 5 pm, leaving for the game at 5:30 pm, right in the middle of NYC rush hour, then having to deal with a non moving LIE and a non moving GCP, then cross the East River Bridge, and cross the Hudson River Bridge, and then deal with NJ Turnpike traffic. never would have made it there before kick off.

It's funny you would say that. First, because you weren't there and have no idea how many people were there. Second, because if they are inflating the figures they aren't lying nearly as badly as AEG used to. Crowds that RB calls 11,000, AEG would have called 15,000. That's my impression and the impression of a lot of people I've talked to.

Shea Stadium is in Flushing, Queens. Flushing is the English name for the Dutch city of Vlissingen. So I think VV Flushing makes much more sensed.

Then TRY to get a parking spot. I've gone to see games with KICKOFF at 830. I left Queens at 6 and still made it 15-20 minutes into the game. Giants Stadium is ONLY accessible to people from JERSEY. It is NOT accessible to true NY'ERs. Either games start at 930-1030 or the MetroBulls and the rest of the non NY'er country deal with the low attendance.
I hope that this helps people understand the difficulties people face in getting to Giants Stadium. Rather the difficulties of getting to anywhere on the other side of the HUDSON. I can't wait for DEPORTIVO CORONA to open.

I'm sorry but you are WRONG. Shea Stadium is located in CORONA, NY. Flushing, Queens is the main post office in the area. Hence the reason why Flushing is so widely used within Queens as a mailing address.

I think that attendance will probably see a spike in the first couple of months. After the newness of the stadium wares off we will probably see the attendance wane. Harrison still has the same transportation difficulties as the Meadowlands. Now lets take into consideration an exhibition game. You are probably going to see MASSIVE congestion. GIANTS STADIUM was designed to seat 77k people. It has the infrastructure and roads leading in and out to help evacuate the stadium. Even with all that it's a nightmare to go to and leave the MEADOWLANDS. HArrison (Newark) has even less infrastructure and roads coming in and out, so the congestion is simply going to be MASSIVE.

    Deportivo CORONA! All the way.

    Spare me.

The Cosmos played in the Meadowlands. They drew very well when they were winning. The location has nothing to do with attendance. It's poor marketing, poor management, and crappy fans.

New Yorkers demanding another team annoys me to no end. You've already got one.

Meadowlands is not the biggest city in the country.

LA has the worst traffic in the country and the HDC is packed on most days, AND they often have to start earlier to satisfy TV start times for East Coasters (Chelsea v. Galaxy match starting around 5pm local time) Don't give me that BS.

Yes yes yes. Cosmos routinely pulled in 40K+ at their peak. It can be done.

No it's not, but it's smack dab in the middle of a 20 million+ metropolitan area. So the same still holds true since most normal people refer to the metro area of any city here in the US when referring to "the city". It's not that far away. If it was 80K a week from NJ + NY wouldn't be showing up for Giants and Jets games.

This is exactly why NY fans are not great. What kind of an attitude is that. You support your team through everything. You might not like their performance but you never bail ship. So if RBNY wins an MLS Cup then maybe the New Yorkers will be willing to show up if they feel like it. That is just beautiful.

i'd be happier, and so would many, if we were still the cosmos or the metrostars. believe me, in ny, as well as any us city that is full of excess energy, short attention spans, and thrives on being a standout image. many new yorkers are embarrassed to have a cheap drink from a lame company be the image of their team.

The Cosmos drew 72,000 to see the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, for crying out loud!

I think RBNY is still holding back big marketing plans until the stadium is a reality (like Colorado, FC Dallas, and the Fire did, which made no sense then, either).

Reyna as a DP was a mistake. He has no fan appeal whatsoever and is so damn injury prone you can't expect to see him on game day.

It all boils down to marketing, and RBNY is probably not doing any.

Remember all the stuff they did when new ownership took over? Where is that now?

The one thing that would help the most is bringing in another DP that has fan appeal to the ethnic audience.

I don't know why I can never stay on topic...

You could make the argument that we're both wrong. I think I'm closer to being right!

edit: darn, I thought that was going to show up bigger.

What makes you think all those Giants and Jets fans are from New York City?

It was the first game of the year I missed. It's not BS.

  19. I hate that attitude too but its nothing specific to NY. Sports teams in the USA that win draw more then teams that lose. It happens across every league. Even the NFL, the league with by far the most passionate following in the country, the games are all sold out because they are season tickets but watch games in December for teams that had bad seasons and there are many empty seats.

How would you like RBNY to cater to a certain ethnic group? Speak Spanish at games or something? Go the route of chivas and only allow certain races on the team ? I don’t know I guess I’m just naive in thinking that catering to a certain group would be neglecting another and NY with such a diverse background would be counter productive.

Is there really anywhere inside the city to put a stadium? I know they need one inside the city very close to public transportation, but my impression of NY is that land is hard to come by. I figure if the stadium was on the east side of the river near some public transportation it would be part for them to not sell out J

I get really sick of hearing how tough it is to get to the meadowlands. Its right over the damn bridge with a huge freeway leading right up to the front door. Your just lazy or don’t have transportation

Yup, I agree. I have missed one revs game this year and it’s a 2 hour drive. Real fans make it out to the games. These guys that complain about how hard it is to get to the game, are the ones who complain how bad ESPN produces a game, how bad FSC puts together a game etc.. nothing is ever good enough for them. Give them a perfect product and they will find the smallest thing to bitch about.

All those excuses roughly translate into we are fair weather fans who jump on the bandwagon. Yeah no one likes to lose, but real fans stick with there team through the think and the thin and don’t make excuses like “we demand success” when things arent going so good.

The true NY motto… Let the true fans build the tradition the rest of us will come after…

Yeah NY metro area has 30 million people and they cant lure more than 13k out to the park lol.

Yeah I agree. God forbid true New Yorkers head north over the Tapansee bridge then back down south to avoid the congestion….

  21. Why do the revs have such a hard time drawing? They have like the best team in the league every year and can't seem to draw unless its a doubleheader?

They use to have the best attendance in the league... But the front office has shown time and time again that they just don't care about the team and are only out to make a dollar / use the Revs as a tax write off.. We have cap room for god sakes and 2 open roster slots, They wont even consider bringing in a DP because it would cost money. Anything the front office can do to save a buck they will do for the Revs and a lot of fans are just really sick of the attitude the ownership is taking towards the team. They wont even consider a SSS somewhere in the Boston Metro area to make the games more accessible / better atmosphere. They really just don't care.

There is not one radio or television commercial for any of there games. No billboards nothing. There is zero advertising for the team. Back in the early days when the Revs were averaging around 20k a game they use to actually advertise the team a little bit.

You cant say that about the NYRB atleast. They are trying to do things to get people to the park and its the fans that just don't care.

  23. So you are entitled to your excuses for bad attendance but others aren't. Seems like a double standard to me. Maybe the fans in New England just don't care.

you do not have a clue do you? Most people who live in NYC do not have cars and the only form of public transportation to GS is one BUS...yes only one. Our new stadium is a block away from a PATH Train Station.

Then how is it that the Cosmos got such high attendance? Jets? Giants?

Christ, this is a stupid argument. Your slight inconvenience isn't the leagues problem, it's yours.

Here's a question for you: What's RBNYs television ratings? Because, if these fans desire to go to the game, but are just completely incapable of it, then New York's television ratings should be disproportionately high.

But I'll bet dollars to donuts they're just as crappy as the RBNY attendence.

It's not the fact that they're in the Meadowlands, so stop making that excuse. You don't deserve a second team if you can't support the first, stop whining about it. It's an old, tired, poor argument. Spare me.
