Still the Kop! love it/ That curved roof will throw all the singing right unto the pitch. It'll be loud as hell and let everyone know that they are playing LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB. YNWA
this stadium is possibly the most amazing thing i have ever seen in my life i cant wait to sit there and see the reds put away the mancs oh it will be glorious. forget the theatre of dreams this is the theatre of reality
Congrats on having an image to go with the dream. I applaud the boldness of the design, and love the touch regarding the crest on the exterior behind the Kop. I'll confess hoping to see a little more of the materials and design behind Anfield incorporated, whereas this is much more modern. To which end I'm curious as to why push the "each side is different" angle, as historically that was more a matter of form following function. But that's semantics from my background. Overall it looks nice, will be truly original and will be a great asset to the EPL. I look forward to visiting someday. Congrats!
well it is more a bit of honoring the past without going the whole retro "camden yards" approach that has been used in baseball stadiums, plus what distinctive materials are you talking about??
What comes to mind for me is The Gate, more brick work and rigid lines. As I said, most stadia with unequal sides were the result of compact blocks and fitting into tight spaces. Thus, when I heard the design would pay a tribute to that history I expected something less fluid and modern. I'm sure a lot of this sensation will fade with the release of more pictures and information, as the current images merely suggest the "uniqueness" of each length comes from the random undulating exterior. Put simply, I'm looking for the reason behind the form for those two walls. Speaking of an homage to the past, are they relocating the Gate?
From What I have read on other forums Shankly's gate, The Hillsborough memorial, Shankly's statue and Paisley gate will all be relocated to the new stadium.
That's what I've heard. The latest proposal from LFC is to build shops and restaurants where the stands are at Anfield and to leave the pitch as an open grassy space.
I guess it looks all right...they say the seats will be closer together - not a popular option with fans, I would imagine.
I think the "closer together" means that on the new Kop seats will be closer together than the seats in the other three stands of the new stadium. It'd be difficult to make them smaller and closer together than the current Main Stand . Plus on this new Kop it is devotely to be hoped that most customers will stand in front of their seat and sing their lungs out
I'll say it...the exterior is fugly as all get out. You don't have to go futuristic in order to not be retro. It'll look severely outdated in about two seasons. The inside looks great, though.
Too much glass on it, ye know the toffees little buggers will tan them all with rocks during the nights. I wanna see more than those three pics, they gotta make a virtual tour of it so we can see it better.
Thank god for the americans. If it was down to english designers another lifeless bowl would be built. It really seems in the USA and now here that american owners (glazers aside) try and help the fans out. refreshing to say the least.
Thanks. I didn't want to be the first one to pipe up and get pilloried. I mean, the finished product probably won't be so offensive on the eyes as you walk up to the ground - but gee whiz . . . P.S. Glad I'm not going to be hired as the squeegee guy. But, on the bright side, it might prompt some of us to excercise once in awhile. And practice rudimentary hygiene.
Yeh, I'm afraid that in 10 years it'll be dated. Ya mean like not pissing on the neighbours feet ....or do ya mean layering your old lady's smelly stuff on top of yer BO glands.
