Great win and w/o Becks to boot. That bodes well for us. We can win against good teams w/o him. If we play with that kind of tenacity day in and day out we might actually have a shot to redeem our season. If Chivas has a lineup on Sat that is mostly scrubs like they did tonight against FCD we should beat them as well. Telefutura gave Gordon MOTM and I really can't disagree even though I'd say the same if they gave it to Cannon either. Bring on the goats!

If you love soccer then you must know its a type of strategy. That's the way Brazil won against Argentina

Defend your guts out and when the time comes counter attack and score goals. That's why the US beat us every time, Italy won the WC, Brazil won the WC in 94

    Its Called Catenaccio

Becks would have been proud of Landon's service for the 1st goal..
    It was a bit Beckish...;)

Oh come on. If you are going to lecture someone first learn a little bit about the game. You cannot be serious. Brazil playing catenaccio? Gimme a break!

Great game. The Galaxy changed their strategy with the exit of Pavon. They went to a much more defensive posture and played counter (very effectively I might add) This is strategy, not just luck. They were very smart and pulled out a win. I am very impressed

You should read up on a Soccer History book. Look up the Brazil squad and the way they played in 94' and the way they are playing now. You might not know that Brazil played with 3 DM's and that's the essence of Catenaccio.

You might now that Dunga is a catenaccio extraordinarie...Seeing as though he won it in 94 using exactly the same strategy Italy used last summer.

    :)

Pachuca played like it was just in a practice session, too bad for them. A 1 million jack pot for the winner:)

Also, why was Beckham not sitting in the bench with the rest of the team. Don't you think this will bring some type of resentment???

Pavon is still not in rhythm!

    Damn

That means we won't be winning the Gold Cup till' 10 years from now. Chances are Landy will be bald by then seeing as though he is starting to show it.

first, congrats on the win. it was a tough match. I have only seen pachuca play in the ccc and tonight and they are one hell of a team. They just need a better goalie.

MOTM, i think has to be cannon b/c he kept you guys in the match in the first half.

Last, i would love to see pachuca play against chelsea.

Not sure why there are so many Gordon haters on this board. I thought he looked good tonight, and not just on the goal. Did a great job with his back to goal, tracking back, etc.

I saw him play a bit last year and thought he looked good then too...why all the negativity????

Calero needs to retire period. Hes a liability for the Colombian NT and Pachuca. Great time in Pachuca but time for you to move on. They need to let Blanco the SUB 20 GK take over the reign. He sure damm well proved it on the WC.

Also seems Pavon is garbage and cannot acclimate or better off score

How many times does LD have to prove his class? He continues to stun and amaze. Will go down as the greatest USA player ever. When he quits, US soccer will die with him. No one remotely close to him on the horizon.

Well we might be talking about different things then. The essence of catenaccio is man to man marking PLUS a "libero" behind the defensive line. No way to pass through. Capello was a master of this back in his days with AC Milan. Brazil hasn't play like that EVER.

Anyway, that is off topic. Regardless of our definition of catenaccio (which I think that is a very different thing from what we saw tonight, alias bunkering) is sad to see a team win like LA did tonight. Just as it was very sad to see Greece winning the Eurocup in 2004. That's it.

LA was playing extremely well those first 20 minutes of the match with their movement and triangular one touch play. Probably should have scored during that stretch.

Pachuca then took over the last 20 minutes of the macth and seemed to find their rythem.

Overall i would say the first half was evenly played and neither team played negative football.

Second half- Pachuca picked up right where they left off and seemed to force LA to have to commit extra effort to defending. LA had spurts of offense usually from counter attacks off good defensive pressure. Then LA broke through on a pinpoint pass from DOnovan over the top of the defense.

That's the fine line you walk as an aggressive attacking side, you push too high a line and get too many people in the wrong half and one bad give away can expose you in a hurry.

After the first goal LA changed tactics to defend the lead, they surrended the possesion to Pachuca and allowed them time and space in the middle but locked down the back and frustrated Pachuca. For all the dangerous moves Pachuca had LA's defenders were equal to all of them, until Pachuca scored.

I thought LA was done for, but credit to them, the came out attacking right away and were able to re take the lead. They didnt counter attack for the match winner, the went out and took the lead back.

From there it was just defending the lead and they did, and DOnovan almost managed to assist Glinton at the end on the break away, but creidt to the defender for getting his toe on it at the last second to deflect a sure goal away.

Great game i thought. I think my assesment of it was fair. Pachuca seemed the more adventeous and aggresive side, but like i said earlier that style has a price at times. LA for being so bad in MLS this year looked very composed and organized, but lacking the flair of Pachuca.

Day one of Superliga---i would say i am impressed, it was much more competitive and intense than i thought it would be.

No one is making excuses. LA won fair and square but to me Pachuca was way more dangerous and creative when attacking. I think they will win this thing, since so far FC Dallas and Chivas didn't really show me anything exciting.
