Mod Note: This is where attendance whining will go from now on, since people will never stop discussing it, nor can they apparently be bothered to look up the old threads. what happened? KC you have a very good team and playing on a weekend night. KC needs to get behind this team. They are fun to watch and have a star striker and instead of watching the loser royals they should focus their attention to the wizards. Come on KC.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Awesome idea! And by "awesome," I mean "absolutely goofy." Seriously, did you not notice all the crappy attendances all over the league the previous few years when the ESPN2 games was on Saturday at 4 ET?
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Relax. If you look at this season, the trend is that KC does better on Saturdays (save 5/5) in attendance. Three Sundays and two Wednesdays haven't helped. Actually, it looks like KC received a very poor schedule (only 5 Saturday games). http://kc.wizards.mlsnet.com/schedule/season.jsp?team=t105
Re: 7101 in KC tonight I don't have an accurate number for them, MLS inflated it. But if you think Thursday night when people have to work on Friday is better for a sporting event than Saturday afternoon, that's cool.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight If we had played our home games in a 7K stadium like was originally planned, these threads would still pop up every week.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight I second that motion. Obviously teams MUST play either Friday nights or Saturday at 7pm or 7:30pm local time.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight thats a joke. there royals suck and the chiefs dont start for another month. lets stop making excuses...KC is a decent team. less than 7K is pathetic.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Perhaps that's true, and yet their attendance was more thank 7K. That KC turns in low attendances is no longer note worthy. Why restart the discussion everytime? Personally, I'd wait for something new to complain about.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Hmmm...people like to support the royals despite their horrible records, and they don't support the wizards.. Well, lets dissect this problem. The people like going to the royals game because of the atmosphere, not necessarily the games. You get to have conversations with friends out on a beautiful summer night and enjoy hotdogs. Meanwhile in arrowhead, there is nothing to look at but empty seats and a large wall of concrete. There is no "open air" feeling, no pleasant atmosphere. Besides, how many minor league teams have their own stadium? The wizards don't. I believe the perception of a team changes when they get a SSS. For some reason, they seem more official. Edit* I forgot to mention that you can get a royals ticket for 8 dollars. The lowest you can get a wizards ticket is 16 dollars. Until then, I have the perfect solution, all of you guys trolling our forums about moving to Philly. Instead of routing for a team that does not exist (thus having no credibility), move to KC. Then you will have a team, and you can invite your 8,000 friends to help our attendance. That's what you're asking us to do. Let it be... Let it be.. The future will come.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Playing the devil's advocate here but they play in the Cheifs' stadium right? I honestly wouldn't go there to watch a soccer game either.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight We actually had 12k lined up and ready to go watch the game but then 5k of them found out that the refs were going to f-up the game and that the Rapids were going to have a hard time distinguishing the difference between American Football and soccer. They decided to stay home b/c of this. But you know, the last thousand times we heard this asinine comment on KC's attendance we thought it was idiotic, but props to you for figuring out a new and creative way to comment about it. Of course you're still a jackass but now you know you've really 'made it' in the ranks of the jackasses because you've now complained about KC's attendance issues.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight And since when is a Sunday night a weekend night? I'm sorry, but a 7pm Sunday game is no different than a 7pm Wed. game. People still have to work, kids go to school (camp, summer school, sports lessons, whathave you) like any other weekday match. Nearly all of our matches have been Wed. or Sun., or noon on Sat. None of these times are conducive to high attendence.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight ??? 1) KC wasn't the only city to have games scheduled on those days 2) Only one city had ANY games with less than 10,000 at a game so far in July, and that's KC. In fact, it's happened three times in July now. Three out of four games this month with less than 10K in KC, btw. 3) KC is the only city where they've had less than 8,000 show up to a home game EVERY month so far this year. That's four months. Kudos to their dedicated fans, but KC either has 20,000 fans waiting for their new stadium to open up (which I haven't heard any announcements on yet), KC isn't a big sports market, or KC (other than the current 8K-10K going to the games) is just not into teams that represent their city and win at the same time.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight KC just isnt a soccer town im sure the mls noticed they only have baseball and football and thought it would work. but it wont. no more excuses....the baseball team which is horrible..draws twice as much any night
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Since MLS is fairly new, any of these five can apply: 1. Any city whose MLS average attendance this month (July) is over 12K 2. Any metropolitan area that either has an MLS SSS, or has one currently under constuction 3. Any city that has sold out an NFL stadium with a soccer event in the past two months 4. Any city that has had either a sellout crowd, or over 20K show up at an MLS game this year (excluding any Galaxy games post-Beckham) regardless of if it was in an SSS or a football stadium 5. Any MLS city where the stadium atmosphere looks electric on television regardless of if it's on a Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Why don't you get out to a game at the K? The Royals have been playing above .500 baseball since May.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight You forgot the most important one: Any MLS city that has a dedicated owner group...let's say a group like OnGoal, LLC. The Wizards will be in KC long after you quit posting on BigSoccer.
Re: 7101 in KC tonight Actually, the Royals have a .558 winning percentage since June 1. That would put them 3.5 games out of the playoffs if they could have played at the same level in April and May. The coolest part is no one is noticing. Except Kansas Citians, of course.
