Man, does anyone know how to dip an instep shot like Ronaldo does? Please help me. I need that shot so bad. Good exmaple is the one for his third score on the second UEFA cup game against Man. U. Dang, it's just so amazing...

My guess is this. Approach the ball as if you were to chip the ball...except lock your ankle so your heel is almost dragging the ground and your toe is pointed up. Strike the ball in a swift motion, and follow through. If you hit it hard enough, it will dip...but I dont know what you are talking about really, but that motion will make the ball dip...its good for taking free kicks like that...

That sounds more like a toe poke, and something that will break your toes.

That type of shot is not something you can really do on a all the time basis because it is the perfect shot, everything has to be just right from the roll of the ball to the exact point of impact.

When that type of dip happens its because of a few reason one is the ball is hit dead center with the very middle part of your upper instep and another is the force of the shot. Landing on your kicking foot helps as well as getting over the ball so you dont hit it with any back spin.

One thing is though when the ball is hit with that type of impact and it knuckles and dips it really take on a life of its own in terms of where it ends up and its flight pattern, there is some physics explination I am sure but I couldnt tell you what causes the flight to change in such a drastic manner other than the stress applyed tot eh ball is spread out perfectly across the ball due to contacting the exact core of the ball.

Also the balls they use in the CL, WC, and so on are very "live" for lack of a better term and tend to spin and dip more because of the stuff they are made out of.

I can hit one of those balls and make it bend and dip all most on command as oppose to a $20 plastic hunk of junk so that has a little to do with it as well.

Why not just watch the clip over and over again? Watching clips of pro's taking goal kicks and punts is how I learned.

ditto, thats how i learn. I got a sweet curve on my free kicks cause of Beckham. Also im one of the best forwards on my team of makin runs and getting to balls, finishing is a different story.

Yea, I agree. I learn a lot from watching clips too, but this one, I can't see how at all. Oh well, itz alright. Itz not very big of a deal overall. Well, what did you find out about Becks' kick? What is your way of putting curve on kicks? I'm just curious. I'm almost there on that. I mean I can get that much dip and speed as Becks does, but close, so.

lock your ankle, and a nice circle swirve will drive the ball hard and put a nice curve. There is two ways you can kick it. 1)ball of foot on the center of the ball or 2) instep on outside of the ball. i find #1 works better. Plus, you need a lot of practice and patience, and little thing i call giftance (natural skill).
