Have you seen Aalesund's defense? Believe you me, Lev Yashin couldn't organize it. As to Brown's positioning, it's very good. But believe what you will. It's obviously easier to make comment without seeing anything at all.
Hello american soccer fans. I google´d a bit about our newest signing (Heath Pearce) and found this nice board. If im not totally wrong now, he will be the second american with our pro team. We had Paul Caligiuri in the early 90s and we won the east german championship with him in the 1990/91 season and were relegated into the 1. Bundesliga a year later with that title win, when both leagues merged. Hopefully thats a good sign But as a new team its always a struggle to stay in the top league. Will not be different this year i think. So im looking forward to at least 2 great years with Heath in Rostock and hopefully he stays injury free. That always has to be top priority. We realy need a strong Defense in our first year back at top level to be successfull, since our D-Captain Gledson went to Stuttgart this offseason. Greetings from Rostock, Germany Rene
Welcome to BS! Please keep us in the loop with Pearce updates, that would be much appreciated! Go Hansa Rostock! Go Pearce!
Welcome! I know someone touched on this on the first page, but can you help define the situation at LB? Stein is the starter and there more or less is one ill-fitted substitute, is that right? Any info or opinion would be appreciated.
Of course. Im sure he had a good sweat today in the training camp. We had the hottest day here so far this year. Up to 35 C and sun was (still is) burning. You figure how much that is in Fahrenheit
Easy Morning Rebel Yes. Stein started 33 of 34 games at that spot in last years 2. Bundesliga. So he is pretty much set for that position i think. The coach thinks high of him too. Hes only 22 like Pearce. But after Stein there isnt realy anybody else i could think of except Heath Pearce (if he plays that position in Rostock too) The main problem after last season is the 2 guys in the middle now, with Gledson leaving to Stuttgart. Only his old partner Sebastian remains there and we need a new rock in the middle now. On the right side Dexter Langen should be a fix too. And for Rahn. Hes usually in the left midfield, so he would play infront of Stein or Pearce. Hes sometimes so so, but had 2 big freekick goals in last 2 games last season that got us into 1. Bundesliga.
I'm affraid your going to be a bit disappointed then, since tactically (defensively) the German Bundesliga is is not quite on pair with the Danish Superliga, I'm sure this was also one of the reasons he chose a Danish team to start with and not a 2nd or lower level German team... Never the less, if you disregard the more tactical aspects of the game, then he is now going to play in a better league against teams like Stuttgart, Schalke 04, Werder Bremen and Bayern München.
Nothing like an unbiased analysis of the Bundesliga's defensive capabilities and style. Why exactly is the BL inferior to the Danish Superliga defensively?
From the Hansa website: F.C. Hansa Rostock has secured two additional defensive players in Benjamin Lense (1,90 m, 83 kg) and American Heath Pearce (1,81 m, 79 kg). Both players have signed contracts until 6/2009 which are good for both the 1.BL and 2.BL.
I've heard that hansa has a strong, large, and really devoted fan base. Is this true. And hey rebel, who's the chick in the avatar?
they don't? I seem to remember a friendly in rostock and the crowd was chanting "hansa" rather than for germany. I really don't know, enlighten me.
This is a good time to post that "Welcome back in the Bundesliga Rostock"-video again : Don't know about large but they sure have a strong fanbase. Very loyal and they stick together. They have a lot less right-wing fans than most eastern-German clubs. Loudest and most united away-fans I have experienced here in Hannover.
Not sure if I agree with this or with the original sentiment that Pearce was somehow "tactically inferior", especilaly considering the presumed starter in that position Jonathan "2 goals against" Bornstein.
@Metrogo we sure are #1 in east germany and because lots of east germans these days now life in west germany the visitors block is pretty full with hansa fans too during road games. I hope that little video Fräulein posted doesnt give you a bad impression. Its no secret that we have some idiots that make trouble on road games sometimes. But if drunk hansa fans make trouble or chant bad words it gets on national media and media people give you the impression the 4th reich has started. If fans of west german clubs do it, it barely is a 2 sentence article in a regional newspaper.
Very true even though that Bayern-Nuremberg incident DID get a lot of press. Imo Rostock's fans are not worse than Braunschweig's. To be honest I actually wish our fans were as united, creative and loud as you guys. I actually symphatize with Hansa.
@ Fräulein I remember a game Wattenscheid 09 - Hansa in 1994/95 when we finished 1st in 2. Bundesliga . Hansa won that game 4-0 in Wattenscheid. What was more amazing was that the Hannover 96 "Trommler" were in the Hansa section with us and making noise. 3 or 4 people with big drums. No idea realy why they were there that day. But it was realy awesome. That was realy the coolest drum action i can remember having expirienced in a stadium. They realy knew how to use them.
well, I'm not going to use this thread on a debate of the difference in style of play and I didnt say that the defenders in the Bundesliga individually are inferior to the Danish league defenders, but that the Bundesliga is not tactically on pair with the Danish league... why exactly ?... 1) because the statictical facts shows that German teams have been eliminated the majority of times they have faced Danish teams in the Europa cups, ever since full-time professional soccer was introduced in Denmark in the 80's, and the explanation for this fact being that Danish teams simply are tactically better than German teams, according to Danish experts and top coaches. If you disagree with their conclusion, then answer me why you think bigger teams from a better league consistently get eliminated (over two games) the majority of times they face teams from a smaller league in competitive games ?... 2) Danish players who have played in both leagues (and thats quite alot) also seem to agree that Danish teams are tactically better. Though this kind of personal opinions ofcause are not quite as unbiased as the cold statistical facts of the Europa cups. .
That "Welcome back in the Bundesliga Rostock"-video is mean but funny. That point is not valid, because the 80`s are a long time ago and if a german team lost against a danish team 20, 15, or 10 years ago, it doesn't tell us anything about the tactical level of the Bundesliga nowadays. Since the late 90's quite a few things changed in the Bundesliga. There are a lot more young and modern coaches right now and the national team plays a modern style as well. And many of the small teams,(like Rostock, Cottbus or Bielefeld) have to use defensive tactics and have to do it well, because it's their only chance to survive in the 1.Bundesliga. I think that Heath Pearce will get better IF he will be a regular starter. In the 80's and 90's most german team's were relying on their traditional oldschool tactics too much, because they have been very succesful. If you are succesful you become lazy and dont tend to try out newer things. But that totally changed since the late 90's. Yes, they sure all agree and they all aren't biased despite being danish...sure. But that's the wrong thread for such a discussion.
