Zizzo showed flashes of brillance in the tounry. He did not have a good final game but for a college player he is a heck of a prospect and that in 2-3 years could be a stud with the right training and playing at a level that will force him to develop.
Regardless of what you thought of Rogers crossing ability, he skinned his man probably 95% of the time on the wing vs. Austria, even after the game starting swaying toward Austria. It was amazing...that right back must've been pretty embarrassed. Talk about a terrorizing winger. Arjen Robben would be proud of that success rate. I think Rogers was absolutely fantastic and possibly MOTM. So I guess we differ.
And this is the guy who was a part time player in League One last year (with Carlisle). As to Fredy's fees -- if Andres Guardado with 24 Mexican caps went for ~ $7.25M + 25% sell-on rights, then Freddy Adu with one cap is worth ... eh, a lot less.
So is Jimmy Jones! He is the GK for the local U-8 AYSO side. He needs to work on growing. Those high shots are tough!!!
I don't think Altidore is going to go anywhere. RBNY and Arena are good enough for him to get better right now. Adu, Rogers and Zizzo are all very good. We know Adu wants to go but don't know much about the other two. As far as those who are down on Zizzo and Rogers, I have to dissagree. The one skill that they both showed that is better than most current US forwards at any level is their desire to run past people with the ball. This seems like such a no-brainer for wingers but think about our senior team. One of the biggest complaints against people that play that position is that they don't try to burn past people enough. These two don't have that problem. They just need to keep at it and refine their skills.
My comments were more directed at his previous performances, as he did have a better game against Austria. But while he may have beat his defender that often, what came of it. I can remember only one good ball he played across the box. And you also have to look at the number of times he slowed play down at midfield because he had absolutely no clue what to do with the ball. But overall, it was a much better performance from him. We do differ and that's fine. I hope he proves you right, but I have my doubts is all.
And uncapped Pepe, Gonzalo Higuain and Raul Garcia went for $38M, $18M, and $12M. So judging by the inverse relationship between caps and transfer fees then it seems Freddy could go for anything between $7.25-38M Caps obviously aren't a major factor in transfer fees. Especially for players who just turned 18... And I think you know that as well.
I brought Guardado up because Mexico is roughly on par - FIFA/Elo ratings-wise, quality-wise, performance-wise - as the US. The Brazilians and the Argentines are rated much higher on all the above criteria. Plus, the Yanks have seen Guardado quite a bit this year in the winter "friendly" and then in the Gold Cup and Copa America, so he's a well known player/reference point to most of the fans and the BS visitors.
Man! Guardado is a terror. If I were starting a team He, Toja and the Mapp kid from the fire are my starters in the mid field all day, every day! Love that kid!
Do you think either one can compete with Convey, Beasley, Dempsey or Donovan? Senior international defenders will stop Rogers and Zizzo cold.
Why? Simply because their big bad senior defenders or because Rogers and Zizzo are American and theres no possible way they'd beat the big bad senior defenders. Explain yourself.
Dont know if anyone said this, but what about Wallace? I thought he played great for most of the tournament. The last games officiating was harsh
Wallace has a great left fullback body but he is signed for 3 1/2 more years with FCD. And he has Chris Gbandi to compete with for the fullback spot, Juan Toja for the left mid and, more remotely, with Arturo Alvarez for the left attacking mid/wing spot. A Prem league squad would loan a guy like that out. But this is MLS.
Your right, the level of SPL play isn't that much better than the MLS, but I believe the coaching to be better. Also if he does well at Celtic, there's a much better chance of another club in a better league picking him up.
Both Rogers and Zizzo are straight-ahead dribblers without enough variety to their games. Yet, anyway. Remember what Agoos did to Adu? No contest. Experienced defenders always have the advantage over new players unless they bring something truly special to the game (as Donovan and Beasley did). If Rogers and Zizzo have futures as senior Nats players, it will not happen soon because neither begins to approach Convey (assuming health), Beas, Donovan or Dempsey when they were younger, let alone now.
Dint want to start a new thread but at the Galaxy vs Chelsea game my friend had talked to Jorge Salcedo and he said he had lost his best player Sal Zizzo to Germany.
He's young. that's what young players do, they get loaned out to lower leauges to gain experience. I wouldn't really consider him a part time player, he either started or was the first sub off the bench in every game he played. and once he found his form towards the end of the campaign he was Carlisle's best attacking player.
none taken thats why I dint start a thread But a team was never mentioned. He just said that he with a German team.
