OK folks. Please put all transfer links/mentions/rumors/desires in this thread until there is something substantial enough to warrant it's own thread. To wrap up the current situation I believe we have recent links to Parma Celtic Tottenham If I missed some please add them here. Then there were the old standby's Manchester United (where he went training/trialing depending on how you see it) Chelsea (never official link but Adu mentioned them a lot) Lets keep it all here until there is something substantial enough to warrant it's own thread. I know it's hard sifting through lots of pages for new info... so we'll try to weed out the meaningless posts and infighting on a regular basis... and maybe have a roundup post every few days. I feel this is a better option than having 5 Adu threads that have 2-3 posts of news then all fall into the same rhetoric. Oh, and deep discussions on how he played in the U20 World Cup belong on the USA Youth boards. In the same way that deep discussions on how well he plays in MLS belongs on the MLS boards. Thanks.
Hardly reputable... from the comments section of an MLS Underground post - "According to Yves Galarcep, who I sat next to on the plane back from Chicago, Adu is rumoured to be heading to either Valencia or Lyon."
Who's Adu? Is he any good? What position does he play? How tall is he? Is he that guy that plays for Toronto?
MLs needs to sell him NOW!!! His value is highest right now, and RSL isn't going anywhere. The problem is RSL needs some reason for fans to come out. Plus, DC receives some of the money for his transfer (or something like that, I don't understand the whole allocation deal sometimes). From their point of view they probably want to keep him for as long as possible. All of the linked clubs would be fine with me, but I'd prefer Valencia or Lyon. If his price is around 10 million as the Parma link suggests, that prices a lot of clubs out of it.
I totally agree....he needs to be sold now. Plus if he is sold now that gives him a chance to make our USMNT. He is stuggling in MLS.
http://football.guardian.co.uk/rumourmill Meanwhile in Italy, Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri hopes to be tinkering with Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi next season, and has £6.8m in used banknotes to make it happen. His former side Parma, meanwhile, will finally bring American whizz-kid Freddy Adu, 76 (allegedly), to Europe.
MLS will be asking a lot of money but will teams be willing to pay it. He may stay in the MLS because of this.
I like Parma's ambition and they may be a good starting point. Do you all think that you want Adu to wet his feet at a "starting point" such as Parma, or go straight to a big club?
I think the biggest mistake Adu will make is signing with a big name club like Man U, Chelsea, Real Madrid. I think these will be good places for him Parma Lower La Liga team France Holland
He definitely needs to go somewhere where he will realistically get playing time and first team ball... At Chelsea, ManU, Real Madrid, that's not going to happen... We all know what would happen and that would be Adu getting loaned out until he was ready which might be a few years... Good thing about the Parma transfer is that FSC is going to be showing Serie A games this year so I'd get to see him play everyone once in a while... So hopefully he'll go somewhere where he can get to play...
I am not sure if Rossi is worth $13M but at least he has 9 Serie A goals to his name in half a season. At Juve, he will be handsomely paid to do nothing. Oh ... if this is an Adu thread, then adjust the transfer amount accordingly.
Lyon would be a great fit for Freddy. Lyon has produced so many GREAT players in the last five years, something is in the water.
Did anyone else actually click on that people(uk) story? High comedy. I didn't know Freddy was 21? I didn't know his price tag is 1 million pounds? Wow.
Sorry folks but as this is the only thread we're trying to use for Freddy Adu... lets keep it real for most part. So I've removed the stuff related to Fro's Wikipedia page and the jokes someone had played with the material on it.
Age was wrong but it was the only one to seriously talk price. He's a risk for any team. A developmental prospect. If he pans out at one to two (sterling), he's a steal. If not, they can probably make their money back. No EPL is going to spend much more, IMHO. Besides, with transfer rate, 1 mil pounds is almost 2 ml euros, and about 2.5 mil US. The age thing doesn't really reflect accuracy in the reportage. Just talked to a friend who is close with the Yids management through family. Probably a loan prospect. I think he'd be better to go to Parma, but as of Sunday, their seriousness has not been supported by an actual bid range, so the Yids have no reason not to bid at that range. Nor has Celtic make an serious overture in price. So, this would be an opening bid of sorts, if they are serious. Someone else has to make a hard bid, or reject it, to change it.
Let me also point out that Boateng is currently discussing a transfer at 2.7 mil sterling. And he's coming from Hatha Berlin which, to EPL is going to be considered more experienced and higher value- AND prob similar signing as Adu. Adu could go for more, but why? He's not proven at the club level, and, though promising in the sub-viente, still shows as developmental. Personally, I think he could be great, esp at Parma with the right coaching, but the Yids will take a different tack to acquiring him than Parma.
FFS, don't make it worse than it is. pds 1m is euro 1.5m and $2m. those of us who earn dollars but live in pounds and euro don't need to be sent scrambling to the currency reports by stuff like this. I need a drink.
There are articles this morning about a move to Tottenham but it's just the ridiculous British press picking up on the stupid People article.
There has been no mention of Adu as a 'calciomercato' target in the local paper. However the Gazzetta dello Sport has Adu's name listed on the Parma transfers wish list, with a hilarious pic of what can only be described as a Parma Adu bobblehead. Meanwhile Tommaso Ghirardi, Parma's new owner who has thusfar shown a willingness to spend cash, was quoted in yesterday's paper as saying 10-12 million Euros for Rossi was 'too much.' This may well have been a negotiating tactic, but, all things considered, a tactic that would undoubtedly apply to Adu as well, if not more so, considering Rossi's stellar performance for Parma last season. Conclusion: if the asking price for Freddy is up to 10 million Euros (approx. 13 million dollars, feel free to correct my math) he won't be coming to Parma.
