I agree. I think the only reason US fans make threads in any of the US forums is so they can bash him.

I'll agree with you there. I think it's pretty immature to bash the kid because he wants to fulfill his father's dream of him playing for the green, white, and red.

Let him play for Italy and let us go our own way by moving all Rossi threads to the Italy forums, mods.

Alas, my faith has been restored. Should I use the embarrassed smiley?.

I was going to go on about Rossi, but it is not worth it.

He was born in the US and is therefore a US Citizen...He plays abroad, and is therefore, a "Yank Abroad." He definitely shouldn't be discussed in US Nat forum, since is will not play for US Nat team. :D

If he gives up his US Citizenship then he will no longer be a "Yank Abroad," though he still will be a very good player.

He doesn't play in MLS, plays in none of our Youth teams, and doesn't play in the Senior Men's national team either. Do you see threads of Freddy Adu in the Africa forums here? Or threads of Owen Hargreaves in the Canada forum?

He has ZERO connection to U.S. soccer other than that he just happened to be born here. He considers himself Italian and is fully integrated into the Italian soccer program. That should be enough to disqualify him from the U.S. forums and send all inquiries about him to the Italy forums. It's just that simple. It makes things much simpler and hassle-free in the long run.

    Another myth.

In fact, I'm still waiting for someone to provide some proof (a link, quote, anything) that shows that Rossi chose Italy because his father pushed him to do it.

He said he feels both Italian and American.

It is wrong that I secretly hope that next year in Serie A during a game Rossi goes one way and his knee the other. :D

Also is it OK for any American citizen to attempt to injure Rossi if they ever see him on US soil.

100 Reps for anybody that tries to take Rossi out if he's standing on US soil

EDIT: I don't mean serious hurt him, just rough him up a little bit so he gets the message

What if we go Rooney vs Carvalho on him?

What a classless piece of shit thing to say.

But at least you've confirmed what I said earlier in this thread:

For a player who's never represented the US on any level, this guy sure get's a lot of crap.

    Let it rest people.

Once he is no longer eligible for the US team (which is soon), I would advocate a no-Rossi thread situation on Yanks Abroad, US nat forums, etc. At that point his relevance to US soccer is minimal, except to dredge up a bunch of hateful comments every week.

Agreed for US nat forums, which would be logical, but not for Yanks Abroad. The player is American... and Italian. Understood that some people will not be able to handle the complexity of one guy's life, but let's not ban Rossi discussions on Yanks Abroad just because of another 'hope he breaks his leg' post.

There is rightly an element of 'How is my US Nat player-prospect doing overseas' element to Yanks Abroad, but that's definitely not all it's about.

No, that is what it is all about. When his potential US eligibility window is over I'm all for the ban. You want to discuss him, talk about him in his club and Italy forums.

So, if I'm classy as I stab you in the back am I still a swell dude? Look I think most of us American fans don't wish him any harm physically or anything like that its just that we don't consider him American.

( We are talking sports world here)Mainly because an American would not make the choices he made if his heart was in America. He even says himself that his heart is in Italy. That's fine with me so why can't we keep all mention of him on the Italy boards. Seriously, as great as a kid as he might be, he did turn his back on the country he was born and raised in right? Would you do that?

If you guys consider him American then why the ******** is he playing for Italian National team? If he's playing for Italy he's Italian right? (according to FIFA) He dreams of being Italian, wishes for it, lives in Italy, plays for Italy, etc. LET him go...it's over. We lost a really good player to some fantasy his dad put in his head, such is life. All reference about him should be transfered to Italy's board and we can do away with these silly discussions.

How would Arena name a player who is cap-tied to Italy to the U.S. squad?

The first step is up to Rossi: file the papers with FIFA to change his national association from Italy to the U.S.

Not gonna happen. By the time he realizes the senior side is passing him by (if they should pass him by), the deadline to change to the U.S. will be long past.

I might have considered it within the realm of possibility if he hadn't gotten called in for the U-21s (so he might conclude that they weren't interested, and have his desire to play internationally overrule his desire to play for Italy), but he did, so he's clearly still on Italy's radar.

Hate may be too strong, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to resent the decision he's made.
