Is anybody a tad worried that this guy has gotten a team relegated recently? I seriously hope he performs because I can see us lapsing like we did when San Vincente left us in such horrible circumstances.

If you are referring to Levante, they were not in the relegation zone when he was sacked...(3 or 4 places above it IIRC)...so he would argue (with some justification) that he did not relegate them.

Rijkaard relegated a Dutch team that had NEVER been put down a division before coming to Barça....

...but then he sucks, and the only reason "he" was good was because he had a real good coach in Ten Cate with him.

I hope I'm wrong my fellow Madridistes but I think we'll see another fiasco just like the one we had to endure when Queiroz was brought in to replace del Bosque.

Schuster has never coached a team of Real Madrid's calibre. It's too much of a responsibility to head Real Madrid after spending two seasons in Getafe.

Capello wasn't given enough time to show what he's capable of. He's one of the best coaches in the world.

Us, Real Madrid fans have the best club in soccer history but as of late, we seem to have the worst Board of Directors ever, specially Pedja Mijatovic. He's the major culprit.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Schuster wants to bring over Schneider to Madrid?

There is none at all. So you guys won't be over charging us for your over aged players. ;)

He just used him as an example when speaking of the type of players he likes. The media just spinned it like they always do.

^ He is not a Bayern or Liverpool player.

He was asked about Schneider once in a interview in connection with his appointment as Real Madrid manager, he had kind words to say about him.

But nobody knows, Schneider might be announced tomorrow as a new signing, just like nobody knew about the Pepe deal.

Well, He's not a Bayern player so we won't be asking anything for him lol.

I think you guys can get a good deal with Leverkusen for him if you are indeed serious about him. He's one of those players that has maintained his form at an old age and has plenty of experience. Plus, with Metze there, he'll have a buddy to talk to :D

BTW, I heard Metzelder is picking up the language pretty fast.

Yes but notice how i said "Nobody knows, just like nobody knew about the Pepe deal" .. You might have liked it better if i did one of your phantom claims eh?

"It's funny how some posters say no to the Schneider deal when in fact he might be announced tomorrow, just like Pepe.

You like what i did there? .. Its a classic example of 50% of your posts in these forums. You ALWAYS claim some other user said this and that without mentioning who it actually was, hence the name "Phantom Claim"

Didn't Ajax turn down an offer from Valenica. Ajax have a very direct approach in their transfer dealings this season - "its either the inflated sum we want or nothing" Same for Babel in their liverpool transaction and the same would hold true for Sneijder. If they are going to let their important players go, it'll be for a huuuuge sum.

Strangely enough, I did hear one newsreader announce that "Real Madrid have presented Bernd Schneider as their new coach" on Monday.
    Gave me a laugh anyway. :D :D

The whole Schneider deal was an answer to the question "If you had to take a German player, that is not Michael Ballack, who would it be?" in the DFB interview.

He named Bernd Schneider. But in all honesty, i doubt Schuster wants to implement German players in the squad.Metzelder was a Mijatovic transfer, and Schuster could have easily brought the one or the other Bundesliga bargain to Getafe, if he would really want to.I doubt he'll change that.

He could look into Bundesliga players, but if he does, it would be players like Van Der Vaart, Mario Gomez, and others.

Vdv is free player next year, so we could get him for cheap, the price would be around 15 mio €.

    Go brush yer teeth!!!

What does "doubt schuster wants to implement german players" mean?

German players are no good? Have no flair? I'm sure you at madrid would gladly want to play like germany right now. I'm sure mario gomez and van der vaart haven't been key parts of the germany team.

Bernd schneider is not overage in terms of ability or fitness; he's only the MVP of the germany midfield and has a tremendous ability to read the game and play exactly the right pass, has awesome technical ability and is a very good dribbler in a tight spot.

Not only that, he's the antithesis of prima dona which would greatly help your dressing room.

Anyways, the problem is that schneider is very loyal and might not move from leverkusen. If I was a madrid fan I would love to have this guy as he is the closest thing to schuster himself on the field.

Here is what actually was said in the interview. The interviewer did not ask "if you HAD to sign, who apart from ballack..."

Question: The trade of Christoph Metzelder has not been officially confirmed, yet is seems almost certain that the player of the German national team will join Real Madrid. What’s your assessment of this move?

Schuster: For starters, Metzelder did not cost any transfer money. On the other hand, Real needs to bolster their inside defense. He’ll have to work very hard to get a spot on the team, but I believe in his potential.

Question: What other German players would you sign for Madrid or Barcelona?

Schuster: When Zidane retired last season, I had tried hard to get Michael Ballack to Madrid. I think, he would much better suit Madrid’s style of play than Chelsea’s.

Question: Ballack is not on the market. Which other German would you recommend?

Schuster: Real contemplate signing players such as Kaka or Christiano Ronaldo. It’s thin air up there, you don’t have many players of such a caliber. Bernd Schneider would be a great player for any team. A few years ago, I tried signing him for 1. FC Köln, but Eintracht Frankfurt made the deal. What a great career he’s had since! Just think off the 2002 World Cup final against Brazil. He’d be a candidate for Real, they are missing such a player, a guy who can play the perfect pass, a player mature enough to read the game.

I suppose he means he talked to ballack and asked him to move to madrid instead of chelsea.

Or maybe he was controlling some madrid affairs even last year, as he has apparently been approving the metzelder transfer amongst other transfers from a few months ago
