I echo your thoughts on Charlie. He and Nguyen looked very good towards the end. I wish I could see Charlie with EJ for a longer period of time as that looks like a formidable combo. Cheers.
He is our favourite player even when he dont score in Allsvenskan, all fans new that CD gone be top 3 scorer in Allsvenskan not this year but next year, its takes time from college to pro and for europen soccer. I told you before that us coach sucks he should have CD on the field last game, the coach must be blind if he dont see what kind of player CD is. Forza Bajen/CD
to be fair to our coach, i think the fact that he called up charlie despite his slow start to his first professional season shows that he feels charlie shows a lot of potential and that he does value what charlie brings. after all, bradley gave charlie his first cap a few weeks back... i know a lot of people are upset about his playing time as he missed out on club games, but i think his little pt and training with these guys is gonna do his good in the long-run.
I disagree-he'd have done better to get in games with his club side. Players aren't developed with national sides generally.
agree in general. players spend much more time with their clubs so it's a no-brainer that they are generally developed by club teams and not national teams. but national team camps can serve as a great developmental tool for players as well. playing with better players also makes players better. many players with strong club teams speak how they learned so much in training because they faced tougher opposition than they would have in a game situation. charlie will likely miss four games. two of these being intertoto games against cork city and a team from the faroe islands... and in return he got to go into a more competitive higher skill environment and train daily against better players than he would if he was in Hammarby. he also get around 30 min of pt against in a real competitive environment. i think these types of experiences for young players can be a real boost to their confidence and play. despite missing out on a bit more gametime with hammarby. let's hope charlie comes back from this trip extra motivated and with renewed confidence for the second half of the swedish season.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I didn't like some things in Charlie's game last night. He had the chance (admittedly early on, but a strikers ALWAYS has to be ready) to take a couple balls directly out of the air, and shoot on goal. I don't know if it was a lack of confidence (hope so), since he's got to recognize in those situations to pull the trigger. He seemed fine when the ball was played on the ground, and he certainly looks strong + has interesting running style (can see how that's deceptive), but he looked all over the place on his positioning. So, from me- very much an incomplete. And also, I would have much rather seen him take those shots (and miss) than not even try. Both opportunities fizzled out (one when he was trying to 'round the keeper and the defense was allowed to catch up. Both would have been spectacular goals, but when the opportunity presents....(you go for it)
I would see this point better if he had been included in the Gold Cup squad. I don't think any of our players could claim any spike in confidence from Copa America.
According to Hammarby website, Charlie will try to take the flight from over there to Ireland so there is a chance that he is in the squad for todays game against Cork City in Intertoto. Match starts in 10 hours (20.30, Swedish time).
Really? Silly me for booking flights to Stockholm for th next game! He didnt, he crossed from a free, and one of our players fell backwards and deflected the ball into the net with his hand. Freak goal. Hammarby were terrible, I feel sick that one of our players scored such a poor own goal. Charlie Davies looked ok. Not really international quality.
Thanks for the eye-witness report. I don't think anyone considers Davies "International quality" (except maybe in relation to the generally uninspiring choices the US has up front at the moment) - esp. after only a handful of professional games. Did he have any chances? He seems to be able to get in good positions but hasn't got a finishing touch (yet?) (And I do have to wonder how you feel that you only managed a single home goal against a terrible side? That would concern me more than a fluke goal.)
yeah, he did make some chances for himself. In particular, one of our defenders is pretty inexperienced and he got passed him a few times; however he never really tested Michael Devine in goal. I thought physically also he didnt really impose himself, as I would ahve expected for a strong looking player, but then he's just back from South America. we've had problems with scoring for a long time, our strength has usually been our ability not to concede, we have a fantastic keeper and some sood defenders. one of them has signed for Reading but our new signing from Arsenal, Sean Kelly has usually been good. We had a few good chances, in particular a penalty decision that went against us and a bit of a goal-mouth scramble, but I did feel we could have taken the 1-0 win from home and defended it away, and perhaps gottena goal of our own over there. Theres never any shame in losing to a good team, like we have to Slavia Prague or Red Star Belgrade in the last 2 years. but if we go out of europe to a silly mistake i'll be gutted
How can you say Hammarby were terrible? None of the other Cork-fans think that, this is some quotes from their forum: Maybe you just wanted to provoce a little..?
I can say they were terrible because i was there Also, you might notice that that particular forum is full of whingy idiots. (Hi guys!) I wonder though, how you think 3 or 4 guys on a forum saying that hammarby werent terrible (but werent very good either) means they definately werent terrible? I also notice how you've take a few key words out of even those quotations, like the piece calling Hammarby "an average European team". Hence the words not making perfect sense in English And I agree - some of our players werent good. That doesnt mean Hammarby's were. If all of our players were good, we would have beaten them, wouldnt we? In particular, our fullbacks were poor, one of our central defenders was taken off with an injury, and one of our strikers played very lazily. Does that mean Hammarby were not terrible? No! It means our team was tired from having played 5 Games in 2 weeks.
